That looks like a decent setup, however, you would be amazed what kind of system you would need to have maxed settings. The setting that causes the most problems is Textures.

actually, I have a 9800 pro 128mb, and I play with texture on high, no stutter, and FPS is around 60-80

and run the best out of evry1 i talk to
and its my pc, cuz my net is only a basic cable hookup

If your saying your FPS doesnt dip below 60 with a 9800 pro on high settings.....your flat full of SH*T!

I bet it sits around 40, jumps to 60 when there is no action going on, and pegs to 80 when you die and are waiting to respawn, and when you respawn its back to 40 and dipping into the 20s.

but you have to pay over 300$ for the card

here is my complete setting

1024x768
Terrain: medium
Texture: high
Lightning: medium
Effect: medium
Dyanmic Light: off
Dyanmic Shadow: off
Shadow: low
View distance: 100%
Texture filtering: 2X AF

Let me tell you some thing about hardware. I came from the Quake 3 Era, and I deeply believe that only ONE thing affects computer visual -- texture. I turn off all fancy lighting and shadow because 9800 Pro cannot handle them as well, and they don't make graphic that much different anyway.

My fps: on carrier it's around 100-101 (when I am looking at the sky), in heavy action it drops to 40, never goes below 40 unless there is artillery strike (heavy action means 2+ explosions at the same time). I am absolutely not BSing and I can teach you how to optimze your BF2.

personally, turning off lighting and shadow boosted my fps 200%, turning sound to low boosted my fps 100%, pbsleep_500 fixed the stutter.

finally, there is no magic piece of hardware, but there is a method to gain maximum perfermence with minimal visual loss.

Another interesting fact, I ran quake III on ATI Mobility P (the very first mobility, or Rage Pro) with texture on medium at 30fps.

You can turn texturing on high on a 9800, you just can't turn FILTERING up to high. Hell, I've got a 6600GT and I can't turn filtering on high or the framerate chokes every time I shift my view.

If you dont know just say so, troy bob is right. Personally I think it has more to do with the mother board than anything else (with a good video card of course), but thats me. I have about 1700 bucks in my system right now, by the way. I also believe that you can cause a big frame rate loss on any system if you dont set it up right. Theres a lot more to a good setup than slapping a few electronic parts together and running a game, way more.
Can you run BF2 with all options on high? Thats anybodys guess, and thats the truth. Should you be able to run it with all but 1 or 2 on high, yes. With no problems. There are some things that have an effect on it though, things you dont have control over. A junkie server, bad net connection (yours or the servers), even the weather can have some effect on how well the game runs over the net. All I can really say Is good luck, dont forget your tweaks, and if you have problems, dont forget us. . . . . . . .Red

I can run it without problems (fps 50+ all the time) with all settings on high at 1600X1200, except for on big maps with a full load of people. I found that if I played for a long time (hour+) that my temps reached the point where I'll get artifacts (tearing), so I turned down the lighting and filtering to medium and don't get overheating and keep fps between 70-99 consistently. That seemed to be the ticket. Tweakguides has a pretty comprehensive discussion of the various video settings and recommends medium versus high on several of them because the visual bang is almost impossible to see but it hurts fps. I spent time playing around with the settings and taking comparison screenshots while watching fps and their analysis seems to be spot on.
