Ya know... I'd really dig it if the commander could fire in smoke rounds from his artillery. It would add command involvment without making the position more deadly.

Thats an ingenious idea. Is there any military technology that can do that right now? Has anything like this been tried before IRL?

Oh yeah... smoke rounds delivered via artillery is an old idea. I believe it was fairly common to use it in WW1.

Imagine the 32P version of Karkand, with 64 players, and a visibility of 2 feet due to heavy smoke.

Disable the TK punnish system and TK kicking, and hand out the G36e's and the DAO's.

Please follow me here.....On the basis of having 4 smoke nads.... Colored smoke !!!!!!

            Wouldn't it be pretty.

Nice red, green and blue ones. WOW, even color code them. Red for a tank, etc. Or just throw them all together in one place and wait for a jet to bomb the $hit outta everybody :)

in the Nam book I'm reading right now the firebase artillery battery constantly fires CS Gas shells at the North Vietnamese. Wouldn't that **** suck in BF2...you and your whole team shelled with tear gas and getting blasted while you're all walking around like a buncha dorks with your vision and mobility all screwed up.

What book is that? I'm just about to start "Dear Mom - Asnipers tale".

Coloured smoke would be damn good in this game. Also wind would be cool so the smoke drifted a certain way, then you could judge your throw so as to form a wall of smoke.

As a matter of fact I have just realised something, why doesnt it rain in BF2?

                  Re: Smoke Grenade Love

Artillery-delivered smoke takes a long time to build up a decent cloud. For quick smoke screens we would first fire a White Phosperous volley; this put out alot of smoke fast but would also burn everything it touched.

Expanding the choices of artillery would be alot of fun; point-detonating HE gets old fast. WP, smoke and CS gas, artillery-delivered minefields(anti-tank and anti-personnel), bomblets (anti-tank and anti-personnel), or best of all some of the new SADARM - search and destroy armor - 3 missles parachute out the back of the round, detect armor via miniature radar, and shoot down through the tops of them. No more armor columns!

One of the advantages of artillery to air power is the ability of artillery to switch missions rapidly; a cannon could be shooting HE one minute and then a smoke screen the next. For aircraft they have whatever they're loaded with; if they get a new mission requiring different ordinance they have to go back to base to re-arm. This is completly missing in BF2.

Big words Wargimp. It's bellow my level to badmouth a rookie like yourself (notice I didn't use the word noob), but I just have one question for you: Did your great ability to formulate plans and the extra attention you devote to thinking help you achieve 7000/9000 kill to death ratio, and prevent you from earning some very basic badges and ribbons? Evidently your BF2 score demonstrates you as a perfect example of the "talk to talk but can't walk the walk" definition. Aside from BF2, you can try, I repeat try, to match your credentials and your IQ against mine anytime. One more thing, don't flatter yourself for being very eloquent, since even person like myself with English as third language could notice the couple of grammar errors and misspells that you made, therefore your speach gets a Bozo button.

There actually is colored smoke already in the game, but not a wall of it. Everytime the commander tells a squad to defend, attack, etc. it leaves a colored smoke plume to guide the team.

I like the idea of the commander getting a smoke screen though. To blanekt an area of the battlefield and provide cover for his troups.

Govedob, did the possibility occur to you that gimpy might not actually be after all the badges, ribbons and paraphernalia to make his epeepee grow?? that doesnt make him a bad player. Stats dont tell much of a story mate, so what if you've got a low k/d ratio?? perhaps you play AT a lot on armour maps, its a lot harder to get a kill....

only the squad leader and the people in his squad see that smoke, it's completely invisible to everyone else friend or foe.
