Rate the infantry classes usefulness here.

With all this talk of the PKM being overpowered, I still find myself gravitating towards playing the medic class even though it has an inferior weapons. The power of reviving and healing in a squad cannot be ignored.

Here is my class rankings (feel free to contribute your own with or without explanation).

    1) Medic - Some of the best weapons in the game (aside from the PKM, the G36E is my favorite gun in the game). Of course, the big thing the medic class has going for it are the reviving and healing capabilities. You can run around with a medic bag in hand to make you extra durable (great for jumping off of cliffs and other areas that'd normally severely wound a soldier). You can toss a bunch of kits on the ground in a fire fight giving you two, three, or four times more health than a non-medic class. You can heal teammates instantly or passively bringing a fairly useless teammate with 2 bars of health back up the full strength. Then of course revives which can potentially save your team a huge amount of tickets for your team, and keeps your soldiers in the fight longer and pushing the line forward. Assuming the average medic can revive maybe 10 people per round, that is a potential 100 tickets saved on a team with 10 medics. That's a huge savings of tickets. Lots of stamina too for those long sprints. Practically invulnerable to snipers. Automatically passively healing a blackhawk or transport full of teammates is a very nice feature too when traveling from flag to flag. Downright overpowered actually.

    2) Support - The offensive juggernaut of infantry combat. The best gun in the game (PKM) that can snipe, mid-range, and battle close up without issue. A huge clip, infinite ammo, and unlimited grenades to spam on maps like Karkand. You can't beat a support in offensive department. Of course, a single tank can ruin your day. Which leads me to number three.

    3) Anti-tank - Really, anti-tank shouldn't be in the 3rd slot, but I often find one APC or tank can really ruin your day when your friendly helicopters/planes/armor aren't doing their job, as TOW missiles will only get you so far. The AT rocket can deal with light vehicles, infantry, APC, tank, and helicopters. So it's moderately useful. The DAO-12 is a pretty formidable weapon as well in CQC.

    4) Engineer - This class while isn't as expansive or widespread as the medic or support slots, it fills a very important niche role. I'm of course talking about the armor whores. With two engineers in a team using the APC or tank side by side it's a very difficult task to kill them. Even without another engineer the engineer class gives armor whores the ability to back out of the fight and repair up. As I'm sure an infantry knows good armor is critical to victory on maps such as Karkand. The AT mines are nice as well, allowing players to cut of roadways to vehicles, and of course with the spanner allows the armor whores a tool to cut a path through such an obstacle. The shotgun and MP7 aren't all that bad either should you find yourself without your precious armor.

Now we make our way to the gutter of the classes -

    5) Spec-Ops - Decent guns, comparable to the medic, but that's where the fun ends. C4 has its uses, but generally speaking it's a poor substitute for proper AT squad or other alternative methods of dealing with armor, has very limited ammo and since 1.20 C4 can no longer be chucked like a super grenade. This leaves the Spec-Ops nothing more than a medic without his healing equipment.

    6) Assault - Decent guns again, a useless smoke grenade, decent flashbangs (should you be a F2000 user) and body armor. This kit just plain sucks, a peg without a hole but as the rifles are still decent weapons its safe from being declared my pick for the worst class in Battlefield 2.

    7) Sniper - The most useless class in Battlefield 2 without a doubt, and for some ungodly reason one of the most popular. The sniper lacks a real offensive punch, and is nothing more than an annoyance to a good medic. They don't help capture flags, they're outsniped by the PKM, and defenseless at anything but the most extreme ranges. If it wasn't for the claymores use in flag defense this class would have no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Teams with lots of snipers sitting on cranes have a tendancy to lose games, badly.

That's my take, feel free to make your own list.

This is of course my opinion. I think snipers are worthless personally. Even when I play sniper, I feel exceedingly useless and nothing more than a burden on my team. I won't deny though playing a sniper can be fun. But this is a ranking usefulness, not enjoyment.

Agreed, every class is good in the right hands. Whats wrong with the assault's smoke though?? comes in handy when trying to rush under cover, or evade a tank!

          best classes to play:
          1 medic
          2 anti tank
          3 support
          4 assault
          5 spec ops
          6 engineer
          7 sniper

i hate the sniper having such a pathetic rifle that cant kill very well from a distance and its made even more pointless when a medic can heal the sniped person be it himself or others. and most annoying when you pull off that 500m shot only for him to heal himself
but its my favourite class, just like in every other game :P

oh and you seem to have made a mistake, 10 revives doesnt save 100tickets, it would be 10tickets no ?

Can't be a very good sniper if you are being outsniped by the PKM.

As for its usefulness, yeah they are in the chocolate fireguard territory but i play for enjoyment rather than acheivement. I still rack up high scores while playing sniper but hardly ever finish top with them but who cares.

Today I went a round 23 for 1 k/d as sniper on Mashtuur, sniping on a rooftop between mosque and that north/eastern USMC flag. It's not a bad kit necessarily, if a bunch of PKM whores are eating your allies alive, then a pair of decent snipers can save the day (and as #138 in the world for support i can vow for this.. a good M95 sniper really dents my personal momentum.. :@)

I voted Medic as the most useful kit, for the reasons listed in the OP.

Assault I think deserves more credit than it gets... on the servers I play generally 7/32 players for each team are assault. Not a bad kit, the players get high scores quite often (with combat scores exceeding 40 easily), just.. the G3 is still so crap. I can't believe its still so crap..

At this point I'd say that spec-ops is the most useless class (where it should have been the whole time.. they and snipers together were meant to be lone wolves anyway). Only time I play specops is to jihad-jeep a tank..

              Sniper > Specops.

Re: Rate the infantry classes usefulness here.

                My order is:

                1. (joint equal) Support/Medic
                3. AT
                4. Engie
                5. Sniper
                6. Spec Ops
                7. Assault

Support has the best gun and unlimited ammo, medics the ability to heal themselves or others. This makes them both tied for top spot. I voted support simply because I prefer being a killer.

I placed assault as the worst simply because I don't have any desire to play them now that support has essentially taken over their role.

Spec ops and sniper are specialised kits with their usefulness very much dependent on the player using them. Engineer is only useful if you can guarantee getting a tank or apc to whore in.

If I'm ever in doubt over which class to use, then depending on the map I'm likely to pick AT or medic as I find these two kits to be more of the jack of all trades.

Spec Ops all the way - bar far the best class imo.

                  Pros:
                  Sprint distance.
Silenced pistol (handy to draw tanks into a C4 trap).
                  Carbines (damn accurate).
                  C4 (good bye armor/bridges/assets).
                  Nades (always good to have).

                  Cons:
                  No body armor.

I have spent the largest portion of my time on this class and love it to bits!

                  Scort.

I pretty much agree with the list although I wouldn't say snipers are completely useless. I played on a squad last night as a sniper (for a little bit). We were on Kubra Dam and I helped A LOT by backing up my squad. I kept a lookout and drop any guys I could with a headshot, at the very least I would get a body shot in to make sure when they met my guys, they would have less health than my squad.

I have been uber stubborn and continue to use the Assault class for infantry maps. As long as I have a medic in the squad I still do well, just shoot a bit more than I used to n00b tube.

I voted Medic though. With the ability to revivie, heal, heal yourself, toss nades 1/2 mile, and add in the G36E, the kit is damn tough in infantry battles. We play a lot of 5v5 infantry matches on 2 different ladders, and mostly the matches end up being 2 assault, and 2 medics, and the CO.

On foot: Medic, you can heal your teammates and all that
In vehicles: Engineer, seriously, I ALWAYS spawn as Engineer if I'm going vehicular, no matter what vehicle it is.

Even though I think the assault class has been nerfed to the point of near uselessness, I still end up playing the assault class most of the time.

In terms of usefulness, I put assault and special ops at the bottom and medic at the top.

I have to say that my engies are one of the best. They are just not utilized to the degree they should be by many. Since they get less visible rewards (points) then people tend to think they aren't a good class. They definitely have their advantages though.
