That technique works good, but you don't have to be a sniper to exploit this tactic. In fact a medic works best for this because you gun is very accurate, but in addition you'll be able to heal up and damage and stay alive longer should the enemy spot and attack you.

Re: Rate the infantry classes usefulness here.

I dont wanna burst your bubble to hard PlaneWhore but you have absolutely no idea how Snipers or some of the other classes are supposed to be used.
You measure everything by what a Medic class can do, which makes your whole arguement flawed.
And saying that snipers cannt hit a jumping/diving player is BS tbh. You only have to time the moment somebody lands to get that shot in. Even if you are a medic you cannt hold up to a decent sniper.
But your e-pinion is obviously biased anyways so have fun with your medic class and dont get all upset when you get snipered now and again.

p.s. anytime you want me to shoot you in the face for some rounds just say so and post your ingame nick here.

Re: Rate the infantry classes usefulness here.

I have to agree with original poster

Even though support is better 1 on 1 vs. medic, heal/revive makes or breaks your team. Especially squad leader should be medic (if you forget about cycling leader), because his survival is so important, and healing is the way to ensure that. You always need medics, in your squad/team, up to something like 1/3 - after that, the ability becomes bit redundant.

Then, support, since it's just plain best at killing infantry, your enemy never runs out of infantry, they're everywhere, all the time.

Then, AT, it's just best vs. vehicles (including choppers, which engy/spec op can't touch) and pretty ok vs. infantry, but having too many of them (I've yet to see that :)) hurts the team, so it's #3.

Rest are pretty useless in infantry point of view. Engineer is really good, like medic to vehicle, but it's like it's not even infantry, rather a vehicle driver. I'd rather omit them from class rating, because they either are awesome or absolute crap, depending on whether you have set of wheels (/tracks) under you.

Sure, spec op can blow assets, but unless you are at the asset, you don't really want to be one.

Assault and sniper aren't really bad, but they just aren't needed. Everything they do, medic or support can do better.

Re: Rate the infantry classes usefulness here.

Spec Ops > Sniper/Engy (the scope on the M4A1/AK74 is nice and the C4 owns AT mines and the wrench is useless unless your outside the vehicle (or the back of a blackhawk))
Medic > Assault (you just lose the Rifle grenades and the smoke grenades...and that isn't much of a loss anyway)
Support > Anti-tank (ok so Support doesn't have any AT capabilities but it outclasses anything else AT has and Spec Ops screws AT over...minus the rocket launcher)

my point: a good Medic + Special Forces + Support team (emphasize teamwork) should own the battlefield

Re: Rate the infantry classes usefulness here.

I love the Spec-Ops class, but it's not for people looking to get too many points. Blowing up enemy assets, blinding and lameing the enemy commander, trapping their transport chopper and blowing a whole squad when it gets in....10 points. I know I'm exaggerating, but the points for those actions aren't equal to the damage they do to the enemy team, or the patience and stealth needed to do them.
                Revive saves 1 ticket = 2 points
Blowing all their arty and saving A LOT of lives = 2 points (have to get a resupply to even get the 3rd one down)

Re: Rate the infantry classes usefulness here.

And if you guys are talking about pubs then the list would be:

                  1. Medic
                  2. Support
                  3. AT
                  4. Engineer
                  5. Spec ops
                  6. Assault
                  7. Sniper

Now when you look at the list for competative play:

                  1. AT
                  2. Engineer
                  3. Spec ops
                  4. Support
                  5. Medic
                  6. Sniper
                  7. Assault

Some classes are better at certain things. Each class in the right hands (except engineer, and perhaps sniper) can effectively kill infantry. But not every class can do infantry and armor/helo at the same time. Only AT.

Which is why AT is the overall best kit in 1.21. It's a fact.

Re: Rate the infantry classes usefulness here.

                    class usefulness?

                    1) SPEC OPS
what can be more useful than blowing up all the enemies assets in one go? it's uncountable how many tickets you could save by getting rid of the artillery, and blasting away the enemy awareness (Radar/UAV)
you could blow up a tank in addition to all 4 assets, exactly how many ticketss could you save there?

                    2) MEDIC
the Medic has the ability to heal/revive others saving countless tickets with the First Aid Kit, seeing as how you healing them could keep them alive later, you and anyone within a 10 foot radius of you gets healed with the First Aid Kit and with the Defibrillator you can save countless tickets directly (plus it makes a good knife), and it's Rifles aren't half bad (longer range and higher power than Spec Ops, all though not by much)

                    3) SUPPORT
then you've got Support with the PKM that can mow down the enemy with it's great accuracy, awesome ROF, kick arse power and huge clip, and the Ammo Bag giving you and anyone within a 10 foot radius of you unlimited ammo, saving a few tickets (how many people have died around here because you ran out of ammo and couldn't kill them before they killed you? I know I've died too many times at the hand of BOTS for that reason) as well as mowing down enemy tickets like grass

Medic, Support, and Spec Ops all in one squad??? Yikes...

                    4) SNIPER
can kill countless enemies with the Claymores and Sniper rifle but it is useless in CQC and Claymores are just flat overpowered, did I mention you almost have to be on top of your main base to do any good without getting stabbed in the back (literally)?

                    5) ANTI-TANK
sure it can take out an enemy Helo, but really I think they should scrap the Optical Guidance system, it makes Anti-Tank to easy to play and overpowered, which is exactly why I stopped playing, it's the new n00b kit, SMG is worthless if I ever knew what the word meant

                    6) ENGINEER
Shotguns are a joke, you have to be in the back of a blackhawk or outside a vehicle all together to use the Wrench and the AT mines in all seriousness a load of crap compared to C4.

                    7) ASSAULT
the most worthless class in the game, the Grenade Launcher sucks, both pre- and post- 1.2, the Smoke Grenades are next to useless, the Flashbangs are the only real good this hunk of junk carries, the rifle is met with something that is slightly worse if not just as good in spec Ops AND Medic, and something that is light years ahead of it in Support,

Engineer by far is the best. Not the greatest point earner, but then again I didnt use points to grade the classes.

This kit just plain sucks, a peg without a hole but as the rifles are still decent weapons its safe from being declared my pick for the worst class in Battlefield 2.
I just found a new love and it's called assault class. Before 1.2 i rarely ever played assault cause it's lame reputation (noobtoob you know). Now since nobody else play with it anymore, i gave it a try. I had already noticed that it was the only class that could kill me as i was medic, support or spec-op. So i was expecting a powerful class, which is able to win 1-on-1 situations anywhere anytime.

So what did i find? I found that m16 is actually superior to any other assault rifle at mid/long-range combat, noobtoob is even better than it used to be, body armour is wonderful and that my k/d went up fast. Assault is exactly what it's supposed to be. In urban maps it's the ultimate fragging class, but in open maps other kits are more useful due to their special abilities. But in Karkand, there's no other kit but assault. If you didn't know yet, by pressing "4" you can switch to grenade launcher, which IS THE MOST POWERFUL handheld WEAPON in the game. Because of noobtoob, assault is not completly defenceless against vehicles. It can actually kill crew inside assault choppers, it kills cars very quickly, faster than at actually and it makes APC's to run away. But due to limited number of grenades and health, class is dependent on support classes. Assault forever.

My personal rating for kits in 1on1 situation, mid range.

                        Assault
                        Sniper (Semi-auto)
                        Support
                        Medic
                        Spec ops
                        AT
                        Engineer
                        Sniper (Bolt-action)

Another thing i recently found is Dragunov. This wonderful rifle is ideal for killing several troops quickly. Personally my best is picking up 3 troops with headshot in less than a second!

                        General usefullness

                        Engineer
(Mines are wonderful, shotgun is a one-shot-kill, 30 damage per pellet! My choise for a lonewolf kit.)
                        Medic
                        AT
                        Spec ops
                        Support
                        Assault
                        Sniper

shotguns are a joke at anything more than 15 foot range, AT Mines are owned by C4, and I believe I mentioned 4 times now that you have to be in the back fo a blackhawk (where the shotgun is worthless) or outside any other vehicle to actually repair it?

Sure, C4 is every bit as good as an AT mine.

Except you have to watch the C4 to be able to know when to detonate it.
And you can't be doing anything else as long as you're watching your C4 trap.
And since you have to watch the C4, you can only lay 1 trap at a time. Not to mention that if you place C4 in more than one place, you risk killing teammates if you detonate them all at once.

So yeah, C4 can do everything AT mines can, except not really.

I can do all kinds of stuff with the C4 that I can't do with the AT mines,

                              1. AT Mines CAN NOT take out Commander Assets

                              2. AT Mines DO NOT kill infantry unless triggered by a vehicle first, and since most people get out of the way of a vehicle that means next to no infantry get killed

                              3. AT Mines are big metal discs on the ground...very easy to see whilst C4 is a small green bag, easily hidden

                              4. C4 Packs can be hidden in brush, around corners, or under vehicles

                              5. I can pay quite good attention to C4 while I am doing other things as long as I stay in sight

Granted, but C4 doesn't replace AT mines. On Strike at Karkand, I routinely spawn engineer as MEC so I can mine off access to three streets. Then I go man a HJ-8 somewhere.
