My point is that there are many tactics in the game and saying it's not in the manual is not a relevent indication that it is an "exploit". Just because you don't agree with something doesn't make it an exploit, hell snipers and their set it and forget it gaymores are an exploit too if that's the case. It would be a simple ordeal to fix if DICE wanted to, and since we're four patches into the game, and yet it hasn't been changed, maybe they don't really care, or it isn't an exploit. And isn't an exploit something that gives you an advantage? Since ANYONE can squad hop, on either team, doesn't seem like much of an advantage to me, since you can squad hop your way over to defend whatever flag they are taking if someone happens to be near by.

        Re: Squadjumping is too abused

All you people calling us "whiners", I already posted this a thousand times in about a hundred threads, but I DON'T CARE IF I WIN OR LOSE A MATCH! I don't come here and say "remove squadjumping" because I lose all the time and I want to win finally. Thats ridiculous.

Even if this is beyond your narrow horizon: There are people who care about gameplay, not about winning or losing!

What I want is an option to disable or at least weaken squadjumping. Disabling the squadscreen while dead is VERY easy to implement. As some (IMHO totally stupid) option for friendly mines was introduced, I actually SEE the chance of such an option being introduced.

It's a plain fact that pubbers using VoIP and the built-in command system can be raped badly by squadjumping clanners using TeamSpeak, who neither rely on VoIP nor on the squad command system.

And in clanwars of course the defenders can use squadleader cycling too. Anyone can do it - if you don't rely on VoIP and the built-incommand system. You can dictate the way the war goes far too easily by doing the "spawn bomb" on critical points on the map. There are no frontlines anymore, which has a negative effect on the overall quality of tactics, which get very arcadey and quake-ish.

I don't want BF2 to be like BF1942. The jeeps are faster, there are planes and heloes etc... all this is great. And I still WANT to spawn at the squadleader. I just want the squadleader position to be something special instead of something that you change like your underpants.

and if youre in a clan game, your clan shouldnt have such open defenses.... all it takes is 2 claymores at that karkand hotel and thats the end of that.

in public servers the squad is still underutilized. it would be stupid to tone it down for the 0.1% of games that are clan instead of the 99.9% that are public in which squads are underutilized.

if your clan has a problem with this, make your own clan game rules, dont ruin it for the public majority servers.

yes, claymores are ruining the game. not.

But when a member of Dice comes forward and says that the system was NOT ever intended to be used this way, it does mean "exploit".

I'd search up the comment, but I'm pressed for time ATM.

However, it remains true. Dice didn't intend players to be able to squad hop as part of the game play. The fact that you can is a matter of design oversight.

On the flipside, by your argument (if it's in the game, it's legit) then using terrain glitches is also perfectly acceptable.

I did not manipulate his words.

I outlined how put in context one could claim that anything that can be exploited is legit because it all happens to be in the game.

The argument is far from pathetic.
It's not something that I'm gonna whine and cry about, but I do feel that limiting squad hopping would be a boon to general gameplay.

My feeling on this is backed thus:
It would even the field for pubbers vs clanners.
It makes the SL's job MORE important and encourages players to devlop a specific SL skill set.
It boosts the tactical importance of troop movement.
It deters smacktard friendly gameplay in favor of real teamwork.

Care to back your argument, or are you going to whine on about "Noobs and whingers" and expect anyone to take you seriously?

I don't understand how anyone who wishes to play a game differently is automatically a noob or a pathetic whiner. Most of the suggestions that I have seen here involve having the OPTION to deter squad hopping. That means that those that want it gone could do so, and those that don't really care could leave it in. It really wouldn't be affecting your gameplay at all unless you choose to go places with the option on.

Some of us would just rather play a game that isn't about squadhopping while in competition. I don't really see the problem in it.

                    Re: Squadjumping is too abused

Hehe... I've found it quite amusing how when asked to provide some actual rational argument supporting the ability to squad hop, those people who are most noisy about their support for it vanish.

Since they aren't up to it, I'll provide a few:
                    - Not allowing you to change squads while dead could be a bit of a pain in the rear. It ensures an extra death before you can leave a poor squad in favor of a better one.
                    - Squad hopping ramps up the intensity of the game since you are almost always able to get right back into the thick of it.
                    - Knowing when/how to break off/run and hide to make a new squad is a tacitcal skill.

Um. That's all I can honestly come up with ATM. There may well be more aspects of it that I'm not thinking of. I don't consiter the raw act of squad hopping to be a "skill" since it relies only on elements outside the game (TS, Vent) and the ability to open a menu and click a couple buttons.

A possible alternate system would be to auto-assign the highest ranking surviving player the SL role. I'm not particularly fond of the idea since it strikes me as playing to the twitch kiddies, but it would level the field at least.

Yeah, I'm sick of people who can't give a real reason for allowing an exploit. It's the same thing on every forum for every game I play:

Thread title: AWP quickscoping/squad jumping/skywalking needs to be removed!

Thread starter: It should be removed!
lamer1: you got owned noob! deal with it!
lamer2: it takes alot of skill! (most common)
lamer3: the game is fine as is! (second most common)

Yeah yeah, this is getting real cliche now. Unless your argument for allowing squadjumping is not the same regurgitated garbage that countless other teenagers vomit daily, do not reply. You are just wasting totalbf2.com's bandwidth and hard drive space.

                        Re: Squadjumping is too abused

Wow I can't believe there are so many complaints against this. Unlike many of you I do realize there are some valid points to be made on both sides.

I think being able to squad hop in "in the thick of battle" is important, it makes things more intense, more fun and more competitive. Who doesnt want to be fighting instead of walking for 300 meters to the nearest enemy?

I will admit that if only one side is using it, the game becomes lopsided and not very fun, specifically in pubs. And isn't that what the game is about? FUN!

As for clan matches, I've never played one, and wont make any comment on them since I have no idea what they are like and my opinions wouldnt be valid. If you are going to oppose me, dont refer to clan matches, I have no interest in them, BF2 wasn't designed to be a clan only game, only a multiplayer one.

I love to see a squad on the other team being so cohesive and working together, that's what squads are about! When I get shot by a team using this tactic, I can't help but compliment them on being so organized. I'm talking specifically about cycling the SL. As far as I know I've never seen one person as SL sneak behind enemy lines, while the rest of the squad waits while dead to spawn.

Another reason why I like to see a nice 6 man squad doing this is that a well placed set of C4 @ a flag that they are trying to capture means 18 points for me 6*2 +6 for flag defends.

SL cycling is by no means an invincible tactic. It is no worse than a squad leader holding back in a secure location while people are spawning and trying to advance towards a flag. It simply allows everyone to be part of the action instead of one person having to wait in 1 spot while everyone else has all the fun attacking a base.

Maybe it wasn't intended to be used as it is, but that is irrelevant. In my opinion it is more fun to get right back into battle, and I have no problem w/ it being used against me so long as I can use it

In clanmatches it's even worse! As soon as someone manages to sneak up to a critical point, all the other people will just suicide to spawn at him. They don't even wait. It will cost you 1 ticket per "teleportation", but who cares if you can surprise the enemy and win in the end.

Well that's perfectly OK. What annoys me is when they all come back 15 seconds later although I killed their squadleader, because a random squadmember survived the C4 by accident. If the squadleader was intelligent enough to stay back, that's another story. But these random survivors being used as a spawn point for all the others just gets on my nerves.

The squadleader can backup his team out of his cover or something. Many people would like this role and see this as an enhancement to gameplay. Not everyone wants to play Rambo all the time :ar15:

You said you care about public gameplay only - so you don't think it's unfair if people using TeamSpeak and squadjumping play against people who rely on VoIP to communicate and use the built-in command system?
