All clans, all clangames. This is why more and more clans recently decide to say "**** this ****" to bf2 and uninstalls it.

Squad jumping shows very good coordinated efforts and teamwork.

That said... The developers know that it could be abused, thats why there's no hotkey combination to leave a squad. Imagine if you could leave a squad with a hotkey... boy that would change the game dramatically.

*IF* they don't want people to squad jump, they would have put in a timer for changing squads. Something like waiting 30 seconds to joing a squad after leaving one. Since it's not in the game (yet?) they obviously feel that changing squads isn't that bad.

When the squadleader dies, he has 15 seconds to leave his squad.
Why would a hotkey change the game dramatically?
Because you can leave your squad in 1 second instead of in 3 seconds??
I don't see the big difference...

If DICE would add a suicide button additionally, then it would make "sense" - everyone would have a cheap teleporter then, it costs you only 1 ticket for the suicide to spawn anywhere you want...

Untrue. Here are some indicators that clearly show that squadhopping was NOT intended by DICE:

        1. The VoIP communication doesn't work properly if the squadleaders change all the time (I know there's Ventrilo/TS, but I am talking about the dev's intentions here)

        2. The squadleader's commands get deleted when the squadleader changes. If DICE wanted peoeple to rotate the squadleader position each time he dies, why do the commands get deleted? And why didn't they just make every member a spawn point, thus removing the need to change the SL position each time he dies?

        And, last but not least:
        3. A DICE guy posted here that was not intended

Fun trivia fact, that ability to join squads while you're dead was a bug that simply stayed as a feature. It was never intended to let people join and leave a squad simply to spawn. (I think this sometimes occurs, you can't seem to spawn on your squad leader while dead.)
It's so lame in a clanwar to sneak up somewhere and then let all the other people spawn at you.
Unfortunately you have to do it yourself if you want to be competetive.

we do it in pubs as well. You better be damn sure you got all of us at that flag, because, we'll spawn back there and rape you silly.

Best version of this I've seen was on Mashtuur, when the blackhawk dropped off 6 players and they all spawned squads as they hit the ground. They'd literally capped all the flags in like 30 seconds of the game starting (or however long flying time is).

And I personally thought it was a fantastic manouver, especially to pull it on a public server.

However I don't like doing it, although I have done it once or twice. Especially for things like the TV station in Sharki.

I do roll the squad leader. IMHO this just represents the next in the chain of command taking over.

I've never seen the point of playing clan "rules" in a public server. It's especially hard when one side consists of 90% one clan, and the others are all walk on players.

One thing I DO enjoy is when each side has a similar number of clan players on it, and a bunch of walk ons as well. Makes for interesting games.

              Re: Squadjumping is too abused

My suggestion to you is to get out of TWL and CAL competitions if you don't like this style of play. I haven't been a FPS fan for a long time, but even I know that generally the teams that play in these ladders tend to do anything and everything that they can to win a match.

In order to avoid that, my clan is in the process of setting up its own league so that we can find like minded clans and play the game that we want to play. My opinion is that they can do it all they want, they can miss (what I see as) the point of clan matches and do this crap all day long for all I care. I'll be in my clans server practicing tactics that don't involve screwing around with squad jumping. When I go into a clan match with a team from the league, I know what I can and cannot do and I know that if the other team is caught doing any of the banned things they will get warned and if it continues kicked from the league.

My advice is to find something like we have to find people that feel the same way you do about such things, because I don't think things are gonna change all that soon.

                Re: Squadjumping is too abused

If I were playing competitively, I can see how this would be irritating. Since I play for entertainment only, I'm willing to overlook it.
I do personally choose not to squadjump, because it feels like it's not in line with the 'spirit' of the game. As Perry said, it's "playing the game engine, not the game."

                  @=IMO=PFCBerkeley:
Unfortunately Squadhopping/jumping/cycling isn't easy to detect or prove by screenshots or videos or even demofiles. I don't think that handling it like "basecamping" (forbidden, but not enforced by the game engine) would work well.

IMHO a serverside option to disable the squad screen while dead would be a very good solution for everyone.

I like to play competetively, still I'd like to preserve the "spirit" of the game...

                    Re: Squadjumping is too abused

I agree that it isn't something that is very easy to detect, but we are playing with clans that are like minded. There are 6 clans in the league so far, and each had a hand in making up the rules for the game. The no squad hopping rule was unanimously agreed upon, I don't think that we will have any problems with those clans.

As for those that may join us in the future, well we will do our best to moniter these clan's preformances during play, and trust me there are tell tale signs of squad hopping if you know how to look for it.

We do what we can to make the game more enjoayable for those that don't feel that this tactic (or several other aspects) are the way to go. No it won't be perfect, but its better than TWL or CAL.

That's pretty cool that you have done the leg-work to make this happen. I am glad to hear there are people like this out there who play within the spirit of the game even if there may be more "optimal" (unrealistic or cheesy) ways to play.

@=IMO=PFCBerkeley: I respect you efforts and wish you good luck. I am playing in some sort of "fair play" or "fun" or however you wanna call it league myself and basecamping isn't allowed etc... but squadhopping is still an issue.

Oh cource your first one should be free... either when you've just loaded or started the round, you should be able to get one squad join in before you spawn for the first time.

The code would be nice 'n easy too.

Not another oh noes change the game thread...

Wait for mods if you dont like vanilla clan play im sure the FH or POE team will have something that suits you...

Majority of people are fine with the way squads work in matches and publics.

It adds a new style to battlfield. One where you must defend all your flags because of squad hoppers and can no longer draw a line across the front of the map with 8 inf defending and shoot anything infront of you.

I mean omg what a shame you have to look behind now aswell as infront.

I supose you want commander mode removed aswell ?

Another advantage of forming your own mini-league with like-minded individuals is you can completely avoid having to play with mental midgets like this.
