    Squadjumping is too abused

****ing boring now, everything is about squadjumping in clangames these days.
Destroying the game, destroying the gameplay, destroying the skilldepending firefights where the good soldiers are rewarded with success, now its just about letting one lone wolf through and wow, they are suddenly 5 adn the flag is theirs. What happened to the tactics like in 42? how to break through and actually take a flag? Its all gone now. Why should the largest factor of winning depend on how fast you create and join squads?

Please dice, was this really what you wanted? boo fuggin hoe!

That is pretty lame in clan games. I dont see it as much in pubs though. It seems like it would kind of back fire. Do they really create another squad as soon as they spawn on the guy that made it through? Seems like you would get killed with you squad screen up...

We rotate Squad Leader when we play together as a group. We'll try to keep SL on someone who's still alive. This is common gameplay tactic and works very well. There is nothing wrong with it. You need VOIP/Ventrillo/Teamspeak and alot of heads-up players to do this though.

To create a squad on the fly, you hit "Insert". I immediately hit capslock to turn off the spawn screen.

its a valid tactic, represents people sneaking through.

at least it requires brain activity, rather than sniping and claymore whoring.

and if youre in a clan game, your clan shouldnt have such open defenses.... all it takes is 2 claymores at that karkand hotel and thats the end of that.

in public servers the squad is still underutilized. it would be stupid to tone it down for the 0.1% of games that are clan instead of the 99.9% that are public in which squads are underutilized.

if your clan has a problem with this, make your own clan game rules, dont ruin it for the public majority servers.

There's a fairly easy way to fix the issue...

Disable the spawn screen's functionality when you're dead. Done, no more hopping.

Oh cource your first one should be free... either when you've just loaded or started the round, you should be able to get one squad join in before you spawn for the first time.

The code would be nice 'n easy too.

Another thread complaining about squad hopping. Like Xanthias said, it is a valid tactic when playing in TWL or CAL and there is NOTHING wrong with it. There is nothing lame about it. I suppose some people would be much happier with the game is everyone spawned all at one and they stood shoulder to should with muskets and shot across a field at one another, like in the Revolutionary War.
You are describing teamwork within a clan or squad for that matter. Everyone always complains about "no teamwork" and "everyone is always playing for points". This thing with squads is what teamwork is. If you die, you leave the squad and reenter, the next guy in line will become squad leader and so on. Im actually suprised no one has used the word "exploit" to describe this.

An even fast way to create a squad is "Home Insert Home".

It's definitly an effective tactic...also makes eliminating a squad a bigger challenge. In theory the whole squad ability seemed like an effective way to force teamwork, and quite frankly, it is and I don't know what bf2 would be like without it, I don't want to know. In reality, the squad feature is being a bit abused with not only squadjumping but also using the squads as mobile spawn points, then leaving when you respawn.

Ah, but you can always access the spawn screen ALIVE! Also, if you select your squad leader, it will continue to default to the squad leader regardless of who it is unless it's YOU!

This would also kill the ability to switch squads mid-match if it becomes tactically necessary, such as base defense, etc. Cons outweigh any possible benefits...

Ungh. Seriously, does it matter? You don't get awarded extra points for having top squad for a round. The only advantage is that it lets players hop around to mobile CP's to wreak havoc or capture flags quicker by cutting out travel time.

Sure, EA/Dice could fix this "bug," but since many players have already grown accustomed to this gameplay style, I think there would be quite a few angry customers that would disagree with the change. Why not take out the ability to exploit the "single bomb mode" bug in jets while you're at it too?

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Its an effective tactic that clans who communicate well can master, and use to their advantage.

Now, instead of dealing with 4-5 guys in your face, you have to pay attention to EVERY soldier on the battlefield. It requires you to be more aware, to kill every guy taking a flag, don't let 1 get away or 5 will be back in your face.

Its the definition of teamplay. And once again, another thread that falls into my standard: "I've been pwnt by _________, therefore _________ is overrated/an exploit/etc.." Get better than your opponent at it, shooting and aim are still required, and probably more important than in the '42 days.

I'm really tired of the squad hopping fan crowd only making their case by stating such things as "it's legit" (when technically, it's not) or "You suck noob". Present your case with some rationality and logic, or not at all. Leave the thinking to those of us who can. :p

Demize admitted that this is not the way squads were supposed to work. I'm not gonna dig up the quote again, but he stated in no uncertain terms that the squad system was not ment to give you an infinant spawn location.

What do we call a game mechanic that wasn't intended to be used a certain way, but if you do you can get an advantage?

I believe the word is, infact, "exploit".

I feel that squad hopping can and does errode the strategic and tactical movement of the game. Getting from point A to point B is part of game play and when you can just magicly pop around the map to whereever, it's perty weak. I prefer the SL to be the heart of the squad... where he is, is where the squad is. If he dies (and there's no medic there to put him back on his feet) then the squad dies and has to work it's way back to whereever. Thus, it ramps up the importance of the role and makes a specifc skill set important to being able to preform that role well.

Hopping also hinders coheasion. The best squads I've been in are stable one where there's no hopping or cycling going on. Instead, we've got a good SL who isn't above running and hiding when he needs to, good communications going, and teammates that are aware of and work with the whole squad. When you start hopping or cycling, you break that down.

By only alowing you to have access to the squad functions (sorry, I think I said spawn functions before... I ment SQUAD function) when you are alive, you ramp up the importance of playing smart and mitigate just playing fast. That appeals to me as a player. If I was all about the fast play, I'd play something faster... like UT or Quake.

Now, since I'm a 2 sides of the coin sorta guy, here's an alternate system tweak you hoppers might like better. Maybe on death the SL role should pass to the next living squad member in line. This would make the whole cycling thing "legit" and allow everyone to play on a balanced field.

Guys, sorry, maybe i wasnt clear enough, but im talking about clangames, sure its nothing wrong to play public and change squads from and then, but what im talking about is when its all about creating new squads every 10th second, joining, suiciding to join another squad, repeat repeat, all the time. It has gone overboard...

"Its an effective tactic that clans who communicate well can master, and use to their advantage. "

Yes, its effective, and ALL clans use, or abuse it, and it doesnt require any special skill, just scream "spawn at me" in ventrilo.

IMHO, it's playing the game engine rather than the game.
