We were hacked. Several times over the past two weeks, in fact.
While all passwords are encrypted and salted, it's recommended that you change your password here when you can.
Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
it gets more and more confusing the more i read, yes do it, no its bollocks dont, and on on,
Facts would help here, i have increased my VM to 4000 from a 1020 , i havnt yet tried it but i am hoping to play on a 32 man server without having too much of a lag issue. my pc is as follows
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional
CPU Type : AMD Athlon XP, 2000 MHz (12 x 167) 2400+
Motherboard Name : Asus A7V400-MX (3 PCI, 1 AGP, 2 DDR DIMM, Audio, Video, LAN)
now my cpu is 2800 not 2400. my video card is not mentioned in the BF2 requirements but nor was my last card which was a 5500 and played better than my 6200.
i have lowered all my settings . but as soon as i go into a 32 man server, its lag city but anything lower than that not to bad but playable.
my hardrive is only 40 gig and i am thinking of getting a larger one and a new motherboard and power supply.
But any hints on how i can at least go on larger servers please tell me whats wrong.
I have updated my pc bit by bit and i dont know if thats anything to do with it and i have twice formatted my pc .
The 6200 video card is pretty cruddy. If it is a turbocache version, it actually uses its own ram PLUS system RAM to do its job, hogging memory from BF2. I have a 6600GT that works great at 1024 medium with 2xAA. You can get one of those for about 100 bucks now. Another Gig of ram may help you as well.
I read from somewhere that a rule of thumb is to subtract your amount of ram from 2 gig, and make that number your pagefile number.
that would support your advice of 'if you have 2 gig of ram turn it off'
Does it matter what type of RAM you have when you adjust these settings?
I have 768 RDRAM...Rambus Ram ( yeah haha joke on me ) and I have used that formula. I am able to run BF2 at mostly low settings, with textures at medium.
I am thinking about getting more ram, but at nearly $1/mb its a bit ridiculous!
my minimum upgrade is +256mb, for about $200! :hmm:
Widkidone, Registry Cleaners dosen't improve performance? Thats bullsh*t, you don't clean your register, soner or later system will crash. Mine first XP made it for about 3 month, then I got seriously reg. problems, and some values been missing. Mine next system had some reg. cleaners like System Mechanic, and Win Doctor.... I haven't reinstalled that system for 5 YEARS.
SergB you might want to read about the registry cleaners and other myths HERE Unless if you have some type of evidence to prove these myths incorrectly.

WTF are you talking about. It is NOT a dollar a meg. Try Newegg mate. You will find 2 GIGS for 179 dollars, not this bull your spitting out.
Under your logic, 2 gigs cost 2 thousand 48 dollars. Thats more than twice as much as my computer.
Yeah, It costs more like 10 to 50 dollars for 256 megs.
USE NEWEGG!!!! www.newegg.com

HEY ! thanks for the rude advice, and next time READ MY POST
I NEED RDRAM- RAMBUS RAM
AINT NO 2 GIG for $179 !!
more like 512mb for $218 --- which is EXACTLY WHAT I SAID IN MY POST
'a 256mb "upgrade" is about $200'
so your 2 gig purchase would equal $218 x 4 = $872
see I need to use it in pairs, a 512 module is two 256 cards. I need to replace two of my cards with two higher mb cards.
SO I need to upgrade my two 128mb cards to two 256 cards, which gives me a 256 increase in ram, FOR ABOUT $200.
Thanks for the help, but next time dont offer it rudely.

Man... I feel your pain. I got screwed by the RDRAM thing too.
There's rumblings of Samsung selling the rights to manufacture RDRAM off (finally). There is the possiblility of the prices on the stuff coming down drasticly within the next couple months.
I hope so... 'cause right now it's cheaper for me to buy a whole new computer (with 3 gigs of RAM) than it is for me to upgrade to 2 gigs of RDRAM!
Well ive tried , but sorry the virtual memory doesnt do anything for my pc, its still laggy, so im going to have to think on replacing my Graphics card and change motherboard and start from scratch really , in hope i dont make it worse than better.
Well I just wanted to say thanks for the tip (and bump the thread lol).
Anyway I got a question as well: If you have two harddrives, but is only using one of them at the moment, is it better to keep the paging file on the one you're not using?
Yet again, thanks for the great tip :)
Best pratice is to have the page file on the same drive where window is AND one on another drive. The one on the seperate drive should be on a small partition for it only, and format this partition using FAT32, as it is faster for small partitions.
The size of page file should always be larger than your physical RAM size. Look here option B on this site:
