I doubt that but I will give it a try. Another thing that worked for me but did not work for my friend is to press Alt>Ctrl>Delete when agme is booting, right click BF2.exe and set the priority to high. Helps alot for me.

There's a piece of software that allows you to assign priority levels to your executables pre-load.

You can also use this software with dual-core processors, allowing you to dedicate seperate software/services to a specific core.

Once I find one, I will post it.

There's actually a little more to this for optimum performance.

Check the No Paging File button first. Then reboot. That will remove the paging file from your system.

Then Defrag the hard drive and reboot.

When it comes up this time, go back and set up the paging file again and reboot.

That will create the paging file in one solid portion of your hard drive and should optimize performance.

Or so I'm told... :)

There's a picture of it in VeNoM:[AK]'s fine example. On the page where you actually set the size of the paging file. Under the size you want to create there's a button labeled:

No Paging File

I really like posts like this. Helping other gamers is just too cool. Hopefully info like this is kept, and not lost under the "this patch sucks" posts.

Well I just wanted to say thanks for the tip (and bump the thread lol).
Anyway I got a question as well: If you have two harddrives, but is only using one of them at the moment, is it better to keep the paging file on the one you're not using?

I have the opposite experience actually!

I turned off my paging file, which really made my PC fly. Everything really went into hyper-mode after doing this. When I used a paging file, closing BF2 would take a few secs, where the harddrive would be working hard. Without a paging file it's instant, and not a sound from the harddrive!
It helped a lot with both the stuttering and the load times in BF.

NOTE: Do not attempt this unless you have at least 2GB of high quality memory. Certain Windows features and applications might not work correctly. In the worst case your Windows might not even boot without a paging file - however that can be solved by booting in Safe Mode and setting a page file from there :)

Yes...this is a very good point. I tried it with and without paging. Personally, I had a better response without. I think this works for some but not all. You will have to try it and see. BUT, if you can't do it with one drive, if you have a second it should definitely work!:)

The best way to run BF2 is to have no paging file at all. The problem here is if you alow windows to use your hard drive to use hard drive space in the place of physical ram then it will do so even when not warrented. If you have enough memory lets say 1.5GB or more you can go to the virtual memory settings as outlined above and turn off the paging file for good. Now you will never have the hard drive cuttinging in during gameplay.

I turned my paging file off after i obtained my 2GB of twinX and since then i never get any stuttering during gameplay.

I've got 1 GB and I'ma turn off the pagefile as soon as I remember... (Was gonna turn it off some months ago It's not my top priority) Take as much as you want, I have like 1.5 GB of virtual memory atm. It just sucks anyway, unless you've got a reeeeeeel good vid-card.

I have 2 gigs of ram... which is it, more virtual memory or no page file? That's such conflicting advice, that I can't see why both would work... seems like one or the other.
