Re: Jet bombings = Out of control ?

Smoke Screen trips me out because whoever takes the flag furthest to the east gets TWO mobile AA vehicles. What the hell is that? DICE has got some weird ideas, on Taraba Quarry both teams get 1 mobile AA at their UCB and another one on the cappable flag on their side of the map but Smoke Screen air superiority is entirely determined by who gets that east flag first. Weird stuff I tell ya.

Not sure as I haven't been on those maps yet, but I used to get bombed to hell on maps back when I was a low rank, but now the airpower is fine, bombing might be annoying if its constant, but its successfull for your team, I would admit it really annoyed me in the beggining, so I learned to use the jet, now on Wake Island if I use the jet then its really fun getting into a dog fight with the enemy, taking them out, twists and turns just add the challenge, I usually didn't bomb much, if I bomb its to take tanks, stingers etc out, but I like chassing down enemy jets.

I'm not whining or trying to get flamed, I was just wondering if anyone else thinks that the jets might be a bit imbalanced for these two wide open maps.

On the Quarry map especially, I've found that I'll be bombed like half of the time if I'm in a vehicle. If I'm on foot, I usually do OK, but when in a tank or even a jeep? I'm a dead man!

I swear it's so frustrating to be driving along, headed towards a flag to do some good for the team, only to have a jet fly over, bomb you, score kills, and fly away without being able to be taken down at all. It's like an eternal killing machine that lasts the entire round!

        Anyone agree?
I cant believe people still bitch about this. Almost every base has an AA emplacement and each team has 2 linebacker spawns. The AA will hit planes with no flares so stop bitching and do something about it.

ah stop the freaking whining already.

soon the sniper, loser no skill types will whine whenever somebody kills them with ANYTHING.

          tank! waa!
          pkm! waa!
          hand grenade! waa!
          plane! waa!

seriously you can screw off whoever made this thread, EA aint going to change it, and its good.

"who other whiners have had bad experiences getting shot by other people? lets make it so other people cant kill us, it would be more fun! lets whine until EA does!"

I don't see any real issue with the mobile AA, they're more than competent at their job now in 1.21.

The static AA is where the problem still lies. This isn't a whine per se, but rather more of an observation. You see, granted the ability of the AA to hit planes has been improved, however, at the same time it was also nerfed. The missile is now more likely to hit, but the range within which someone can actually target the jet has been significantly diminished.

As a result pilots can cannon AA sites long before they can retaliate in any shape or form. Pilots have the heads up on whether they're manned or not, whilst the person manning the AA site has no idea where the jet will be attacking from...It's not uncommon to see good pilots completely dominating static AA sites, things that were placed on the map for precisely the opposite effect..

I think this is the key to the unbalance of airpower in the game - the information war. If a radar is tracking a plane both the radar operator and the aircraft should know where each other are. If a plane is being tracked solely by it's infrared signature the pilot should not know he is being tracked and the AA operator should not know which direction the plane is coming from. This needs to be fixed before we can properly tweak the weapon ranges and turning radii and such.

seems to be a bit unfair that the pilot would know if an AA emplacement is manned or not .. that s not cool

Re: Jet bombings = Out of control ?

Anyone who drives tanks in columns or clusters when there is a bomber on the map deserves to get wiped. Map with bomber, maintain distance between vehicles. When I fly the bomber, nothing gets me salivating like a wall to wall convoy of 4-6 vehicles. Worst case, I get 3, best case, I get them all directly or via splash damage.

Even with 5 bombs, the bomber can't take out a well organized convoy. If you are in a tank, you better be an engineer. If you are in mobile AA, you better be support. The best pilots will get shot down with the mobile AA. Write it in stone if someone is also manning a fixed AA in the area. All it takes is for one or the other to get the plane to drop flares, than it is boom time.

If you are in the mobile AA, move around. Be near the areas where the plane will be on its way back from a drop. Be where the plane is likely to be turning around, i.e. a bit past a target rich area. They will drop and either loop up or turn near your location. You should get lock on the way in, fire once to get the flares to drop, then fire the rest on the next lock.

Most pilots fly in somewhat predictable patterns. Figure it out and get yourself in a position to get shots on them. Maintain ammo via support kit. Be patient and plan to die occationally.

Anyone who claims they can avoid the bombs on Smokescreen are out of their mind. Killing tanks with the Mig is second nature for many pilots. The Euro takes a bit of time, but any skilled fighter pilot can be pretty successful with the 2 bomb drop. The best defense is holding the flag with the 2 mobile AAs. Use the 2 mobiles plus the fixed AA and planes and helos have to avoid the middle of the map.

I agree with you m8, some more mobile AA on some maps would make things more interesting. The Quarry map is perfect example of how it could be, mind you'd still get the complaints.

'I get bombed on the Quarry map' they say
'Man the Mobile AA then' we reply
'I don't want to' they come back with
'Well you gonna get bombed then ain't ya'

                          Jakswan,

That's just it. If there's mobile AA on a map, then the ground forces have a good chance of enacting some revenge and since it's mobile, it can be more difficult for the planes to know where they are.

With static AA sites, you're literally lighting your position up with a homing beacon for jet cannons. Getting in one is a deathwish. With the reduced range one can spend ages spotting jets but doing nothing against them. If the jet pilot works out it's manned then in all honesty you're better off running for it. Even if he doesn't, all the pilot has to do is climb a little and the range is too short to maintain lock.

Here's another tip for the AA complainers. Don't sit in the AA all of the time This lets all the planes or anyone paying attention to the mini map see that the AA is occupied. Watch the planes and get in if you know they have dropped their bombs or haven't demonstrated any skill to take the AA out with the guns. If they attempt to take you out via the guns, wait until they are flying straight at you and play chicken. If he doesn't shoot you out straight away, you can still wipe him even if he drops his flares if he doesn't change course.

From the Gamespot review (Euro Forces got a 7.7, which isn't bad at all):

The Bad: Only three new maps, only one of which features China; airpower has become a huge balance issue; existing battlefield 2 quirks remain.
Looks like I'm not the only one that is feeling this way.

anytime you get a plane map with a good pilot or two it takes all the fun out of the game, you barely get in a vehicle and you're dead. If i get in a server like that i just leave
