Re: Are Unlocked Guns Inherently Superior to Regular Counterparts

Personally, most unlocks are slightly better than originals, some are truly superior (g36E anyone?) and some are total crap like the p90....

Yes, what make the AK47 good is its power, not its accuracy. Only AK47 and G3 among the assault rifles are powerful enough to kill an armored target with 4 hits. Accuracy is only adequate (but good enough that I've killed quite a few snipers with it).

The unlocks are supposed to be alternatives, but I find that new/unlockable weapons have a trend of exceeding stock weapons in power. After all, if the stock weapons are just as powerful as the unlocks, why is it that it's the unlocks that players predominantly use?

I like to point out the G36E. Stat-wise, it's a substanial upgrade over the M16, thereby making it an upgrade to the USMC kit. The AKs have somewhat of an advantage at close-range due to their damage/full-auto, but the G36E is very effective at close-range too because it can be fired from the hip and retain decent accuracy. So it's about as effective as the AKs in CQC but is much more effective at range.

Then there's the PKM, which has the weakness of a slow rate of fire, but most players are more than willing to accept that weakness for the accuracy/firepower.

I generally find they are more alternatives than upgrades. Granted, there are cases where the unlock is superior IN SOME WAYS to the original, but then again there are ways in which they are worse. Overall, i think they were fairly well done. For instance, AT. submachine gun is terrible close up, but alright when compared to the dao at a distance, which is where you prefer to be as an AT guy (well i do at least!)

Because people think the fact that they're unlocks makes them better. Placebo effect. Just look at all the people that think their SCAR-L is awesome. I bet most of them haven't even tried using the stock SO guns in months.

Full auto and high shot damage makes the AKs more deadly up close than the G36E, and I'll frequently choose the AKs because of it.

Unlocks are for the most part just alternatives. Often, they are more useful alternatives, but not better in every way. The only real exceptions are the P90 (which is worse in almost every way) and the PKM (which is ridiculously better than the stock guns).

A lot of people wind up finding out that some guns are easier to use (i.e. G36C, DAO), but then go back to the stock guns and find that they really are better than they remember.

IMO quite possibly the worst gun in BF2

Ak-47 is the best weapon in the game---the stock weapons are very solid for the most part, and should have good eprformance in capable hands
