    Re: Once is a fluke...

The other big issue with applying that article to BF2 is the liquidity of the game's design. Once released, a version of Street Fighter never changes. As such, they tested the hell out of it to make sure it was balanced and buttoned up. The gameplay formula was always simple and easy to test (comparatively) - 1v1 combat, test every move from every character against every move from every character.

DICE's products, on the other hand, are released under faster deadlines, are tested far less, and are more prone to weird results that arise from the extensive, varied and widespread online play that we engage in, and that's very hard to simulate. Nevermind that they can patch it and change the game completely.

People always cite that article as some magic bullet for stopping complaints, but the reality is that people complain because they can actually influence how BF2 evolves. You can't do that with Street Fighter.

If people never committed the time or passion to complain, then BFV would still have a godly M60. BF2 would still have useless support weapons, mines and claymores that nobody used, AA that never worked, and a truckload of bugs.

Actually, Var... one of the interesting things about SF2 is that it was patched. Even in the arcades. The Chun-Li throw I mention was eventually nerfed to make it possible to defend against because it was so amazingly over powered that once you got a feel for it, you didn't have to do anything else... ever.

At the time, I was dating a lass who's father repaired and maintained acrcade machines and he was overjoyed to be installing upgrade ROMs in all the local SF2 machines.

Just a side note I thought you might find amusing.

I played a server where it said, spawnkilling, camping, base raping, teamkilling etc.. is part of war deal with it, or words to that effect. Although these things can be annoying, it's true. If someone keeps killing you, they're not the ones who are cr*p at the game, you are. I love it when someone is camping or using a certain weapon to kill me cos it gives me a challenge to try and get one over on them. If I can't, I admit defeat, I don't whinge and cry that everyone isn't bending over and begging to be shafted.

Nawp. Chun's air throw was the worse balance issue in the first release of SF2. You could jump OVER anyone while spamming the light punch button and they'd get sucked up into the air and tossed. Jump back over 'em before they can get up and do it again. Repeat until you score (yet another) perfect victory.

BTW, I placed 4th in a regional tourney. By that time, they'd filled the hole in Chun's throw and I had to go with Blanka's one combo kill.

Ah... the sweet memories of a wasted youth.

Made me realize, that all this "youre whoring" talk is 100% ********. People who say that, want other people to play by their rules, so they can have "fun" on their own "turf". They create their own set of imaginary rules that defines what is right and what is wrong. For example in BF2. An infantry grunt screams out of frustration when hes killed by a jet- "you whore, come down and play like a man". Do you see how absurd this is? I do. This tendency, to judge whether or not something is cheap in your opinion (which you automatically make a golden rule, yourself), and is "wrong", "lame", "whoreish", "unrealistic" is ESPECIALLY noticable in BF2 and this community. In retrospect, everyone who thinks that using an aspect of a game, milking it to the bones, is "whoring" is a total n00b.

This article focuses on competitive high-qual gaming, most of it is common sense actually, and most comparisions are taken from arcade games. But this article has a valid point.

              Found it from www.unstobbaledynasty.com page.

Aren't you just trying to impose your own set of imaginary rules here? After all, you complain about other peoples' attitudes to this game, and their views as to what's acceptable/unacceptable play.

              What an irony.

Interesting, I didn't know they were so easily upgradable.

So strike my previous statement about SF2 not being unpatchable, and change it to SF2 was patched very infrequently and patching was a more extensive, costly process (because I'd imagine that it's a lot more expensive to created the revised ROM, send it out, have all of the arcades install it, etc.)

I'd imagine that those changes were an exception, whereas in online PC games patches are the rule.

The simple fact is that it is easy to whore an apc on karkand and get a ton of kills wheras its a lot harder and takes more skill to play on foot and get a ton of kills.

Rubbish. I get far more killls on foot in Karkland, most of them are from blowing up APCs. If you have trouble stopping an APC then you need some shooting practice.

Well "Karkland" is a bit of an exception, being one of the few infantry-focused maps in the game. So yea, of course you get more kills on foot.

What im saying is it's alot easier to get kills in armour as it takes very little skill or effort, try it and you will see what i mean.

It's horses for courses. In a built up area with lots of alleyways for people to peak out from, the APC is a sitting duck. But then again it all depends on who else is in the game, some levels you can't move for being bombed by planes others you can roam around in a tank the whole round and not get a scratch. there's no real hard and fast rules for what's easy and what's not, however, what's easy is to bitch about getting killed and whats not so easy is to accept you are playing against humans who all have their own legitimate tactics (whatever you may think of them) and just get on with the game.

Ah, didn't take you long to start flinging insults. Good going, really!

I think what happened is that you simply didn't understand me. Your approach is that people should apparently do as they like (i.e., whore). THAT IS A SET OF RULES, like it or not. It's just a different set from the ones your opponents are using.

You feel it's OK/natural/whateverthehellyouwanttoclaim for people to play a certain way, one which objectors call "whoring." You have absolutely no grounds for claiming that you support "openness" or that objectors' rules are "imaginary."

You just happen to think the game plays better a certain way. That's all. And when you come here an post some unimaginably tedious, poorly thought-out defense of that position, AND then try to claim your view is somehow inherently superior (essentially because it suits you), well then -- you have a real problem.

All you've managed to do is loudly proclaim that your "fun" is superior to an objectors' "fun." But you've yet to give a single good reason why that should be so.

Bottom line is, some people are cry babies and "whoring" has nothing to do with using APCs or aircraft or anything else to excess, a "whore" by one of these cry babies definitions is someone who kills them a lot, end of story.

Learn to take it like a man, practice more, get revenge and stop crying.

Whinging about "whoring" = someone who wants it all handed on a plate and can't accept there are better players out there than them.
