    Error 7049 / EA Downloader

    Dear Friends

After having spent more than 3 hours of time and about 30 Dollars of Helpdesk Tax for a product that costs 9.99 Dollars, I am finally at the end of the road. I can't take it anymore.

Why is that Error 7049 constantly appearing? My security settings are OK, I don't use IE 7.0 and once the downloader went up to 85% until the error came. I emptied the downloader cache and what else I found I could do.
My Gamespy and BF2 Names do match etc. etc.

Can somebody help me - I'm loosing it - really

Thanks lads! I'm staying tuned in front of that tread for your input!

    cu,

    Merlin

Is you system clock set to the correct time?

Did you download the USA version of the EAD?

      Hi!

My system clock is OK 16.03.2006 and I redownloaded the installer for my country (Switzerland). Still the 7049.0 Error.

Thx for your help, I apprecate. Any other ideas for me?

      cu,

Re: Error 7049 / EA Downloader

          Hi MerlinCH65,

This seems to be a countrywide problem... And I have it too...
I spent much more then 3 hours on that problem, so I do understand you very well.

I also wrote remedy tickets to EA, but they just fed me with some random support questions, and later pointed to Bluewin's firewall with the Gold membership.
I have a classic membership, and no firewall. I also called Bluewin, and they said that it was probably not on their side either.

It did work on tuesday evening for a couple of minutes if I recall right, I got to download 274MB before I got the same error again, and was never able to recover the download, or even restart it.

I somehow know it is on EA's side. They are probably blocking whole IP ranges I suspect.

But maybe we have a chance if more people call Bluewin and describe this problem, they might dig more into this, and officially deny that the problem lays on their side. This would enable us to point to EA as the root of the issue.
I think that it is EA's responsibility to research and solve this big problem as soon as possible - better immediately.
I bought, and have been waiting with the download code for almost one month now, and I know that Swiss banks are famous all over the world. But I am not a credit institution, and I am not happy at all that EA is holding my money back without delivering the product that I bought.

If they deliver a download program which has such sensitive network routines they should better make sure that it works flawlessly for all those that payed good money for it.

I do feel a bit cheated on right now, and hope that they get this one solved...

Re: Error 7049 / EA Downloader

            Ey, hi AlphaNut!

Nice to see a swiss guy over here. I often play on the BF2 Swizz servers together with my dear friend eagle58! Hope to see you soon on the field man!

Look, what bugs me most is that I call a helpdesk that does not pick up the phone yet bills me with .50 cents per minute just to hear some darn NHL clips. If you think that EA HQ Switzerland would pick the phone when you call them on the regular 022/... number : well, you are far-out as we swiss say hehehe... OK, EA is in fact a small company and thus it's absolutely normal that at 16:00 nobody picks up the line, no?

Plus what's best is that I wanted to switch my EA-Account to ea.de as well so that I can place a ticket like you did and guess what: IT DOES NOT WORK! I'm barely MUTED - sitting in front of my PC and I tell you if I would get any EA guy right now I would actually give him one hell of a 9mm friend - really. I paid about 30 CHF on Helpdesk for a game that costs half of that price - so pathetic, really.

And I'm 40 year old now - didn't belief I would get so upset again.

Well, I see they don't have a darn clue about 7049:0 so I'll wait.

Thanks for sharing my grief - I'm sure one day we too will blast through the smoke shield AlphaNut!

            cu,
            Mike

              Dear customer support.

I have still not been able to download Euro Forces booster pack.
I have bought the download code at a local store here in Switzerland about a month ago.

My gamespyID is connected to my EA Account. I really don't know what's been causing this issue so long.

I get the same error since about a mont (the date I bought it)

              Error:7049:0
Not a single byte is downloaded. I can download the trailers without a problem though. This is not a network related problem on my side.

Please can you resolve this problem for me soon. I'd really like to play the game that I have bought a month ago, and have not been able to play unil now.
Today the release is official and many people are downloading it NOW, I guess the problem is not the download servers either.

So could you please check my account and see if there is an issue with it? Thanks.

              Cheers

              Hello AlphaNut,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with the EA Downloader. Are you using a browser other than Internet Explorer 6?

This error message occurs when there is a communication error, or a corruption with the login file on your computer.

The first step you will want to do is to uninstall and reinstall EA downloader. If you cannot uninstall EA downloader through Add/Remove Programs please follow the directions found on the link below.

              To add/remove programs:

              Click on the Start button.
Click on Control Panel (or click on Settings then Control Panel).
              Double click on Add/Remove Programs
Click on EA Downloader and click the Remove button.
If you still receive this error message there will be an issue with EA downloader connecting to the server. Please follow the directions found on the link below for troubleshooting connectivity issues.

If the issue persists, please reply with any changes to your issue after trying the steps above.

Should you require further assistance about this or any Electronic Arts games in the future please visit our website and review our extensive Self Help knowledgebase (http://support.ea.com)

I have checked many forums, and also your EA support page before I placed this request.
My workstation meets the minimum req. easily.
              Yes I am using IE6.
I also stated that the exact same problem occured on a fresh install on complete different machines with different hardware setups. It was the same problem every time.
I assume it has something to to with my account. IMHO nothing to do with spyware/network settings, or unnecessary tasks running in the bg.
Believe me I have done everything possible or listed in any forum/support site that could've solved the problem. Shawn who works for your company has given some good advice on the totalbf2 website, but unfortunately none of his suggestions have solved the issue I'm having with the downloader.
The correct ports are forwarded on my router, and the IE settings are all low.
It is also possible to download the movies without a problem. But when I try to download the game, or a patch I get this error.

Thanks, your suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Hope we can fix this soon :)

              Cheers

Guess you guys found the issue finally.

              Update.
              Stopped working after downloading 274MB.
Returned the same error as previously...

              ---

              Customer 03/15/2006 10:42 AM
With all due respect, I have a hard time accepting that this issue has not been solved yet.
I had a really good feeling when my buddy who had the same problem emailed me, telling me that the downloader finally worked. And it did work for me too - just a few minutes ago when I came home for work - for about 15minutes, which was enough time to download about 80% of the game.
The download was fast too - about 3Mbps.
Then in the middle of the process the same ERROR!

Is there a fixed scheduled when you will have this issue resolved?

Having a bit of certainty would be nice.

              Thank you

that error means that the port that the ea downloader uses is blocked
simply if you are a home user unblock all ports temporarily in order to complete the download

Did you ignore reading the log I posted on purpose?
I tried forwarding all ports required.
I also tried connecting through a DMZ where no port forwarding is required because everything is routed to and from this machine.
I'm on a network you know, I can't just open up all ports for all machines here.

I appreciate you try to help us out :)

Re: Error 7049 / EA Downloader

well your only solution is to access an independent direct line like i did
easier for me seeing as I use a laptop but I had to find a net cafe to download as my workplace and university had access to those ports blocked on the network
there is no other way of circumventing it from inside the network unless you
                        1. have access to the server computer and router
                        2. know enough code to force the download through another port

Don't know if this will work for everyone, but it did for me after 2+ days. To fix 7049:0 Error I had to access Local Area Connection thru Control Panel/Network and Internet Connections/Network Connections/Local Area Connection/Properties/Advanced-Windows Firewall Settings/Exceptions/Add Program and selected EA Downloader. Worked first time.

Hope this helps someone else as I had all but given up.
