Yeah, that's the GOOD thing about SF is a break from the tk's on airmaps!! Everyone thinks they are 'Tom Cruise' and wants to do barrel rolls while dropping bombs and then saying 'you can't touch this', of course we cant because everyone knows that BF2 is based on air superiority, given fact. They tried to balace it a little on Smokescreen in Euro, but dang, there are some great pilots that wont set foot on the ground.

Hence less players and only a relatively small number of servers to cater for those people.
The only other issues I can think of is the night maps and performance. Of those who bought the game, a proportion don't like night maps (I do). Regarding performance, the BF2 engine cannot cope with indoor combat on multiple levels and 64 players in a comparatively small map area, so on a couple of maps performance suffers. For those with reasonably high spec PCs, this isn't a major issue, simply turn down dynamic shadows and dynamic lighting a notch (worked for me). For the rest, this performance loss compared to vanilla BF2 is a major issue.
If SF had been a booster pack, rather than a psuedo stand alone product, I've no doubt it would've been a great deal more popular.
      QFT...

I love SF and the maps and the unlocks and the added dimension of grapling hooks/ziplines but the fact that it acts as its own separate program ****es me off.... How hard would it have been to have SF streamline right into BF2 like every other "Expansion Pack"... If it isnt too late, they should plop some programming resources into making SF more integrated... It's bad enough we paid $30 for it.... they could make it more user friendly.

Re: Why Is Sf Less Played Then Bf2

The major problem of SF which I see is the Night Vision implementation. Apart from that, I don't find SF unbearable. Quite the contrary, I have more than 1 reason not to play BF2.

          1) It is poised by exploits/cheats which punk-buster fails to bust them
          2) Once you are up against a minimum of 1 elite pilot, you and your team are basically grounded
          3) The rural landscape exposes you to tank whoring
          4) No zip line and grappling hook make movement confined
          5) Less unlock weapons thus less surprise

With the above 5 causes, I can't help not to stop playing BF2 anymore!

I love the way SF is.

I love SF....minus the night maps and that is only becuase I have not played them alot. When I first got SF I hated it but the more I played the more I liked the zipline and grappling. If you form a squad with each a member having one of each there is no where you cannot go. Yes Warlord takes awhile to load but it is a great map.

SF is great because it doesn't have the airpower imbalance that regular BF2 has. That's also why so many people play Karkand and Sharqui so much.

                    SF is good but:

                    - The whole process of not being able to say in a server have maps going from vanilla into SF etc, having to boot up SF just to get into a SF map is annoying.

I think SF is a good game and all and I enjoy some of the night maps because it gives you more of a Spec Ops feeling like Splinter Cell with the night vision, etc. but I still like normal BF2 better.

BF2 is just more fun to me because the maps are bigger and a little more well thought out. My Fav map is Karkand and I have about 200 hours played on it. One advantage of purchasing Special Forces was the integration of the guns into BF2. I love the new guns for the Medic kit...almost 200 hours played as that too!!

I personally love SF. The gameplay is much better than BF2 for the most part. Maps are not that much smaller if any in some instances. The planes being gone is a huge plus and then add the fact that half of the helo pilots cant fly SF helo's in the dark and the helo choppy glitch. The only reason more play vanilla is because they can fight and tk over the jets to get more points.

I got SF (and Euro) and like it well enough. Liked the unlocks. But I don't use it much mainly because my CRT is old and dark and I can't see a bloody thing. Other than that, I'm very familar with the vanilla maps and I just haven't put in the time to learn best tactical use of the newer maps. My new Radeon lets me increase brightness so that is mostly resolved. I just made First Sargeant a few days ago and never expect to advance to the next rank so I'll probably be putting in more time on less used maps and kits just for variety.

It is really up to you. If you prefer less bombers, fighters and even no air units then SF is a good choice. None of the SF maps has bombers like the J-10. There are no fighters but only choppers.

If you have SF, you will be entitled to 2 unlock weapons at each promotion.

However, SF's maps are darker than most of BF2's. You have to adjust the gamma either using your card or the monitor. There are a few night maps where you have to use Night Vision but it is very badly implemented. I personally do not recommend you play the night maps.

SF is a separate game not an expansion. So either you have it or not, you do not lose much. But if you like urban or city maps or Lost Village of Desert Combat back in BF 1942, then SF is your choice.

For me its lag. Euro forces works great, BF2 works great. SF just lags out on me. Was really disappointed with it
