Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
It was much easier, and MUCH more fun pre 1.2, where you could jump-prone-stab then lol.
And back then it took 1 stab to kill, not up to 4...(Client-Server comm. bug)
Very true. It's definitely harder to stab people now. It's like the hit detection is hosed. Don't know if it's related, but my rockets still fly through vehicles a LOT, and hit them when I miss.
For those of you that are not a fan of Iron Gator, like myself, this tactic works pretty well at the Palace on Warlord. Although, I actually got mine somewhere else on the same map.
sh**. i'm too poor to get SF. i have a bad feeling i won't be able to get first sergeant. does anyone know any good way to get it post 1.2 (or whatever patch it was) on bf2 vanilla maps?
Nice tactic - always great to find a good knife tactic. Never thought of using gas though.
Pistol and knife servers are great also no matter what these "big gun" noobs say about it. Reminds me of some old RVS pistols. And there aint nothing wrong with playing it ranked either. It's just like people playing SF ranked to get away from the jets so they can actually play for more than 45 seconds at a time.
Sure there's nothing wrong with it if you like to have your stats reset...
I still dont have my basic knife yet either. Master Sergeant as you will notice. Thing is I have so many knife kills that I will get Veteran Knife if I can manage seven in a round....
I actually put effort into getting my knife badge for the 1st time last week, because I was approaching 20,000 points and wanted the full promotion. It was actually pretty fun, almost knifed a entire 3 man squad, but fell short and got killed by the last guy. LOL. But even then I keep falling short at only 4 or 5 kills per game.
Your best bet playing vanilla would be an infantry oriented map like Karkand or Sharqui Peninsula. Sneak up on prone snipers and support guys from behind or the side. Sometimes the 64 players are good for getting kills because things are so hectic, folks are easily distracted. Your KDR in the game may be nothing to be proud of by the time you get the badge, but hey, DICE says you're not cool unless you can knife 7 guys in a single game.
I'm still trying for the badge myself, so I run into any sure-fire way to stick 7 guys real easy, I'll be sure to let you know. I'm thinking my next strategy might be to have my buddy chase guys around in the tank, and while they're dirtying their drawers over the tank they might be an easy target for my blade. Consider asking a friend to help you get the badge - guys are much easier to knife when they are facing the other way, distracted by someone else.
I got basic knife on my first try on this map...it's not just about sneaking up on the enemy, but about running into them as you turn corners. It works...
Ditto!!! I had tried unsuccessfully several times on every vanilla map I could think of that would be good for the knife badge (Karkand/Sharqi) and actually pulled it off the very first time on Iron Gator. It was like a 64 player map with about 20 or so people on and I got it with like 5 tickets left. INSANE!!! Sharqi is definitely the best vanilla map to get it on IMO.
i`ve heard stories about friends who have a Lan party, make a server (online) and help each other with the knife and pistol badges.( They kill each other after turn) cheating to some, smart to others, noobey to some..
I tried a bunch of different maps before I found a good match. A small game at the SF map with the insane asylum is perfect.
1) Fairly small, therefore lots of contact with the enemy
2) Lots of interior combat locations, to limit ranged weapons advantages
3) Very dark in spots, lots of places to hide
Its also the fact if you join a server with lots of new people in its far easier i got my expert on sharkie dunno if it was full of newbs or not but it was hard and fun ..
Something that finally helped me get my pistol, but would work well with knife is that all too often I found myself using my primary weapon in situations where a knife or pistol would have been ideal - force of habit and excitement I guess.
I've heard of guys that bind their pistol or knife to their mouse wheel so that they can quickly switch w/o fumbling for the 1 or 2 key.
I usually play SF, but today I played some Vanilla for a change of pace and was on Kubra Dam squatting down and covering one of the stairways near one of the flags. Out of the blue this MEC support guy runs up and squats right in front of me - he obviously came in from my side and didn't see me. It would have been very easy to blast him w/ my rifle, but I remembered to pull out my knife and gut him.
This is what I found to work best after many attempts. Play a good infantry map like Karkand (Iron Gator might be good, I never tried it). I found 64/Karkand was pretty useless because there was too much armour trundling around, and the action tended to move around too much. An underloaded 32 map might be good, but fewer players also means fewer targets. Team up with a buddy playing med, and it doesn't hurt to get either the same buddy or another one playing commander. When you make contact with the enemy you go crazy with your knife while your buddy distracts them by shooting at them. :) Most people will actually shoot at the guy with the gun first, so you will often get a good chance to knife even when they see you coming.
Getting basic/vet is pretty easy that way. Getting expert is hard no matter what you do.
I finally got my expert knife today *whew*. heres my tips:
play as medic, so that you can heal yourself if you get hurt. you'll stay alive longer which you'll need to do in order to get more kills. when sneaking around dont toss out medic bags, you'll give your position away, just hold the bag to heal yourself, unless you have like 1 bar of health left, the toss a bag and do a full heal.
Medic also has a good sprint distance, you'll need it to run up on people.
choose a map that has alot of infantry fighting, with bases that are close to each other, so that if you die, you can run to the enemy base to get more knife kills. I recommend a 64 player map with around 32-40 people.
Mass Destruction is a perfect map for it, especially at the beginning. play spetz side and hang around the junkyard, theres plenty of snipers there. If you die, you can spawn at your main base, or the substation and get right back over to the junkyard.
have a friend help you if at all possible. have him be the squad leader and hang around the enemy base so you can keep spawning on him. if a uav is availible use that to track down enemys. also know how to prone dive so you can knife people faster.
How can EA wipe out your stats if you play on a knife and pistol only? Is it on a ranked server?
My tip is Ghost town 64 player map with 20 to 30 people. Stay on the roof tops. lot of Snipers to knife or pistol, Great visual, And The UAV Covers nearly the Entire Map. If you see somebody down below jump down behind them, knife em climb back up If you live. Oh yea don't worry about getting killed. Its going to happen alot.
On Iron Gator, wait for the other team to try and take the mess hall, run up, dive, stab. Sometimes i've gotten 2-3 people who were bunching up. Another place is the Palace on Warlord. If your team has 3rd floor, and the other has 2nd then zipline, and stab away. You could smoke em, as someone who just spawns wont have time to mask up, so easy kill. Good Luck.
I got my basic, veteran and expert knife badges on warlord. I just hide either under the stairwell on first floor or across theway from the lobby. When guys run by you to go upstairs to cap the flag, I follow them up and stab them. Or just stand next to the doorway by the stairs, just out of sight, and as soon as someone runs in, stab!
When I encounter guys that dive at your feet to stab you, I just jump. And crouching down to stab someone prone is pretty effective.
