Re: EF says not installed, will not play

Yeah I can play the maps in my old username, but not my new one. Says I don't own it/have to use my online name. I changed my nickname in Gamespy and it still only works on my old name. I'm not being allowed to log in through the downloader. It asks for my username and password and says that my password is incorrect. I'm not even sure which password it's asking for considering that this download purchase is has now reached three different services utilizing three seperate passwords. I did the "forgot password" link and got sent the password that I've been trying. I tried the "forgot username" link and entered my email and never got a reply. I tried again and was told that I can only check my username twice a day. This booster pack is useless on my first account. I should really be able to use it in ANY account. I just started this new account and now I'm wondering if Special Forces works. About to go check...

    ------------
Edit: Whew! I can still play SF. So why does EF have such a problem with multiple accounts?

the user and password for the downloader is the account you needed when you first clicked buy. the EA Account

once in the downloader you change the gamespy ID to your in game name.

      hope that helps

Re: EF says not installed, will not play

Unfortunately it doesn't because the download required my 1) BF2 game name, my 2) AOL username (since they reserve AOL names and an old aol account I have was Jofaba, and I no longer have the email to forward the forgotten password to) so I used Jofabalive, and 3) My gamespy username. I had to sign up for Gamespy for that. I've since changed my gamespy username to reflect my new clan name. Before you go "oh you just use your regular name and put your clan's tags in the prefix", this clan is different. The prefix is your clan's rank and your username ends in the clan tag, hence you have to start a new account and they do that to weed out undesireables who just want to be in =US=.

Point is, I don't remember which was which during the install process, and regardless, Iv'e tried all three. The downloader doesn't like any of them in any combination. Jofaba or Jofablive is the two possible names and there are only two possible passwords (two accounts share the same password).

1 and 3 are the same thing.

You need an ea.com user name and pw to log into downloader.ea.com then use the same login (if it even asks you) for downloader application.

Other than that when you buy you enter your bf2 name (aka gamespy nickname).

          That's it.

Re: EF says not installed, will not play

Sorry dude but you're wrong. I couldn't enter my BF2 name because it was taken by an ancient aol account. I had to use Jofabalive which isn't my BF2 name (either one). And I've since sucessfully changed my Gamespy name to Jofaba=US=. When I log into Gamespy arcade it says "Jofaba=US=". The downloader won't let me log in to change anything regardless of the information it gave me. I got it to sucessfully send me my information ONCE and it confirmed that I was using the correct username and password. I'm not trying to argue. I'm not really that upset over it (don't even know if my clan plans to play these maps yet), I'm just trying to figure out how to either use Euro Force on multiple accounts like I can with Special Forces, or be able to easily switch between the two by logging into EA.com or Gamespy.com and changing my login name or whatever each time I switch between the two accounts. I undertand that since it'd be easy to share these maps with anyone that you have to protect the content, but by logging into a simple account and changing my information it should automatically update my BF2 info and actually work. I'm not attacking you, just giving you the information since some wires seem to have gotten crossed and you've got incorrect advice.

EDIT: Anyway I've already downloaded it. The problem isn't getting the download. The problem is that it's associated with the wrong account.

PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED (FOR ME & MAYBE YOU)

I'm not sure what the problem was, but I was relentless and finally fixed it. It's simple, and of course follows all the advice given so far, by Shawn and others, but the problem was that it took about 15 times for it to finally work.

As stated, you open the downloader after the game is on your computer and installed sucessfully (sorry, this explaination is for the problem I was having only, not installation problems) and click on "Edit Gamespy Nickname". This opens up a small IE window where you are supposed to put in your username and password. For me, choosing both Forgot Username and Forgot Password only sucessfully resulted in one reminder email out of severl attempts. I put in the information it said was correct, and was told that my password was invalid. I tried several times over the past hour, and it finally let me in. As soon as you're in, it's a simple fix. You're already on the screen and just put your name as it appears when you log into the actual BF2 game. It's automatically updated.

However! There is apparently a 3 times per week Gamespy nickname change limit in effect, so make sure you enter your name correctly.

Thanks to Shawn for the information and my own stubbornness for not giving up. Hopefuly the login error is fixed so others like me can get in with the corect info on the first try. It wouldn't seem so crazy then!

            Good luck.

Re: EF says not installed, will not play

http://totalbf2.com/forums/showpost....8&postcount=93 fixed the problem. I realize that's all you have to do and YES that fixed it, but the problem was that even with the right username and password, and any other combo (bf2/aol/gamespy) wasn't letting me in. Even the one password reminder that actually got emailed to me had the info I was most often trying. Only after trying a dozen times in a row did it finally let me in. Now time to play =)

Re: EF says not installed, will not play

If I understood Shawn correctly, he said they're trying to work with Gamespy to get rid of that limit, if only temporarily. So there might be luck that you don't have to wait a week!
