After 1.21 I've noticed that helos take 3 AA missile to destroy them. Is this just me! I haven't noticed anyone else complaining about it and I have never encountered it before. I spent 1 and a half rounds on Dalian Plant pretty much constantly sitting in the AA on one of the beachfront flags (can't remember the name) and I canstantly got 2 hits on both Black Hawks and Cobras and they would fly off to repair. Was I getting ripped off or is this the way it is supposed to be?

Consitering it takes 3 to splash a plane, I wouldn't be complaining about choppers being hard to take down with 'em. -

Wargimp you're saying that planes and helos both take 3 hits to down?
No it's not too bad against transport choppers but against attack helos it's a death sentence having to wait for the AA to reload.Comment

Re: Helo hitpoints/AA missile damage post 1.21
in 1.12 it took 2 missiles for planes, in 1.20 it took 3 and in 1.21 it takes 2 again.
i think SAM's are weaker than air to air missiles, 2 sams leaves a plane on about 4 bars and 2 a2a missiles kills a planeComment

I wish they would switch it back to 1.2 and just give the copters back their original payloadComment

It takes three AA missiles to kill a helo with full health since 1.2.Comment

Well that sucks just one more reason I'm not going to be playing maps with much air power.
EDIT: Don't know how I didn't notice earlier but I guess after I heard they were reducing helo hitpoints I naturally assumed that it wouldn't suddenly take an extra missile to take them down.Comment

Who knows. I've been on the Essex an fires about 5 of them at a plane and none hit. He wasn't even using flares. So my guess is that Ea said no G to A missles are going down anything.Comment

Re: Helo hitpoints/AA missile damage post 1.21
I tend to agree (if you were even serious) but it does add some nice variety to BF2 that I would really miss if it wasn't there. Instead of nerfing the air power to put it closer to equally effective as the ground troops (which will never happen because people would complain like all hell and it would be stupidly unrealistic) DICE needs to work on making drastic changes to the scoring system. To make things more realistic attack choppers and jets could possibly even be made better!Originally posted by HowieMandelAir Sucks!
This is one idea that I just came up with (only applies to attack choppers and jets):
- Firstly kills to ground troops don't count as a death for the unlucky victims and would only award the pilot with a single point. People aren't going to get nearly as upset about being killed by uber powerful vehicles if it doesn't effect thier stats. It should still lose the team a ticket so that people still need to watch out for jets and helos.
- Kills to any people in vehciles would count as death for the victims and would be awarded the full 2 kill points. In addition pilots would get certain amounts of team points for killing different types of vehicles. 1 for APCs and transport choppers, 2 for tanks and attack choppers and three for jets (all of those amounts would probably need to be reduced by 1 for people flying jets versus people flying choppers). All kill bonus team points would be awarded to both the pilot and gunner reguardless of who acctaully gets the kill and kill assits would still be given as normal.
-Lastly deaths would count twice for chopper pilots and gunners and 3 times for jet pilots and gunners. This simply represents that people in these positions die less that everyone else.
Obviously none of that has been tested in anyway and would most likely be completly unabalanced but you can understand the ideas anyway. It hasn't been thought out aside from while I was typing it so there may well be serious flaws in the idea as well.Comment

The principle behind it is a sound one. the scaling would need some work but a tiered points system would be a good thing i guessComment

Re: Helo hitpoints/AA missile damage post 1.21
From my experience, 2 solid hits on a plane or attack helo destroys or set them on fire. The Blackhawk is more heavily armored to compensate for it's speed, which is why it requires 3 shots. However, think of it this way. Anything that can definitely take you out in a heartbeat takes lesser shots to kill. While the Blackhawk can get you, it has to maneuver itself to do so in a way that is a bit awkward to the pilot, giving you time to hop out and duck behind the sandbags.
I'm honestly fine with it. I've seen few helos actually continue like normal after even one hit. Most people immediately turn back for base to repair, and that's fine for me. That means they wont be dropping anybody onto our flags. And even funnier is that 20% of the time they just bail, which since I play Wake a lot, usually leaves them in the middle of the ocean

yeah, but try to land at least 1. I'm not sure it can be done unless the plane is going very slow and at a low alt and going the right way.Originally posted by TigerReiFrom my experience, 2 solid hits on a plane or attack helo destroys or set them on fire.
AA is useless. Missles should be a 1 shot kill, just like mines.Comment
