Air to air combat still makes me gag it's such a horrible skilless aspect to this game now (worse than 1.20). Even when I'm the pilot on Chinese side pulling out an easy 90:0 K/D while the F-35B pilots can't stand in the air for more than 30 seconds. J-10 is all but invulnerable to A2A missiles, while every single missile still hits the F-35B no matter how strange to angle.

ive said it before an ill say it again, the problem isnt the j10, nor is it the AA turn rate. the problem is infact, that missiles "miss" when they have no buisness missing. they fly up to the back of the jet and just decide to miss. you could change handling characteristics of jets and aa missiles all day and the real problem would still remain. FIX THE DAMN AA MISSILES!

You couldn't be more wrong. If DICE followed your suggestions then AA would be just as shallow as it is no matter what plane you're in. It's shallow right now if you're firing at anything but a J-10, at least a J-10 can evade a missle with a full speed max angle turn. Currently, assuming you're in a better plane you get behind someone, fire two missiles, they're guaranteed to die. Now, if you've ever had a dogfight with someone in the same plane you'll know it flat out comes down to maneuvering skills and evasive abilites. Dogfighting J-10 versus J-10 is very fun.

I've played plenty of games now in all planes in 1.20 and 1.21, enough to formulate a concrete opinion on the state of dogfighting. I've also played with many people off this forum and the PBF forum, and every single of those people has had a first hand demonstration on just how shallow A2A combat is currently. With such an imbalance exisiting, when the map switches to Dalian Plant, Wake 2007, or Dragon Valley we've already won the game with 100 (more likely 200+) tickets remaining. Now if that isn't a horrible consquence of this imbalance, I don't know what is.

leave the j10. no more nerfing of vehicles. people who complain that a certain vehicle is too powerful have just come out of game having been completed owned by it

this is a problem i had in 1.12 but my missiles dont do that any more. maybe u should reinstall bf2. but i do admit when flying towards a blackhawk or other helicopter and lock on the missiles go right passed most of the time, or right through the blackhawk. thats why the guns are a much more effective way of taking out choppers

The 1.20 patch was a great moment for me, I shot down J-10's in a clan
war with the F-35. Then ofcourse came the *hot-fix* which also *fixed*
                the AA again.

So we are back to the old situation where the only threat a J-10 pilot has
is his own stupidity. Yes it needs a nerf and it should have been done
months ago. But I want it nerfed down to the other planes level. The
other planes handles just fine apart from the Eurofighter which flies like
                a tractor with wings.

My own solution (if you can call it that) is to stay away from chinese
                maps until something is done.

                  AGREED 100%.

All they have to do, AND SHOULD DO, is just tone down the J10 to "Mig-29ish" level so they would actually be vulnerable to Air to Air missiles.

Ha all this time the solution was so easy, I overlooked it for a while.

are you seriously trying to argue that pilot skill in manuvering has anything to do with the aa missiles missing? because it doesnt. turning hard is not skill, period. when a missile in your flight path flys up to your engine and then simply misses, thats just bad gamedesign. further more, if you dont like the model of modern air combat, you can go back to 1942.

Currently, assuming you're in a better plane you get behind someone, fire two missiles, they're guaranteed to die.
not if they are out of the missiles turn radius. or they put something between the missile and them. in modern air combat, the goal is not to let someone on your tail.

Now, if you've ever had a dogfight with someone in the same plane you'll know it flat out comes down to maneuvering skills and evasive abilites.
thats what all air combat is like except the j10. with jsf vs jsf for isntance. you are trying to manuver and evade your enemy, where as j10 vs j10, is cannon only combat. which isnt what modern air combat is about. the cannon should be a last ditch out of ammo effort in the game, and the crappy air missiles are impeading this.

I've played plenty of games now in all planes in 1.20 and 1.21, enough to formulate a concrete opinion on the state of dogfighting.

                    shallow no, unbalanced, yes.

frankly i must say that you seriously have no idea how to balance this situation and further more, you do not want the situation balanced. you want planes to be able to dodge a missile that was aimed or even lead at them. and that means pilots dont have to have situational awareness, because it doesnt matter, they can always just dodge it. the real skill in jets is getting someone off your tail without getting killed, and then getting on their tail, none of this missile dogeing shinanigance. oh and ps, the cannon rocks planes more then ever.

very nice post roger smith (no im not your butler )

The fix is simple. Reduce the J10 maneuverability to where it should be, ~Mig 29/FA18/F35 land so they are not invulnerable to missiles.

F35 in real life is probably a much better jet than the J10. It is based off the F22 Raptor which is also a 5th generation fighter, and without a doubt the best known aircraft in the world (yes, better than the Eurofighter, as cool as it is).

There is simply no logical reason it should get its ass whooped by the UFO 20G turning of the J10.

I have to say, i've been biased thus far as regards PW.

I've never taken the time to read more than perhaps half of his (somewhat long-winded) posts, and have just accepted that what people whinging about him is true. For that i apologise.

I actually bothered to read what he had to say tonight, and I've found that my opinion has turned completely. What he has to say has merit, and is put out in a logical manner. Granted, he does tend to have a greater-than-thou demeanour from time to time, however i find its nothing compared to the recent (i'll keep his name quiet) arrival in our forums. In fact, i think for a bloke who cops as much crap as he does, he restrains himself fairly well.

Yes, i find it a pity that he does try to avoid flying the f35 as much as possible, not because 'he'll suck' but because i'd like to see people realise that yes, he does have skill and can use it in any aircraft. Granted, he only posts J10 videos, but if you can fly that well in a particular aircraft.... lets face it fundamentally they're the same - they have wings and engines and fly and have bad allergic reactions to the ground.

                        I apologise PW!

I've got this horrible feeling that DICE will do something terrible to the J10. Won't a reduction in armour so that it can only take 1 missile and be taken down with a few seconds cannon fire sort it out?

Nice and simple, if they can increase AB time on JSF would be good as well.

the problem i have with this fix is that the turn rate and acceleration/deleleration rates of the j10/jsf are disperportunate making for balance. if they were made the same, it would be like flying the same jet with a different model.

i propose that the fix for this problem be that if a missile enters x degrees of its target, it blows up.

Hmmm I understand we dont want clones of planes, but when you fly a F35 vs a Mig 29 or an F18 vs a Mig 29, it is a much better dogfight. Sure the Mig turns better than the F35, but F35 accelerates faster as well as slightly better rolling and "stability".

This makes for great fighting. Just last night I was playing F18 vs Mig and it was very enjoyable. Some missiles would hit, others would miss. It was never a guaranteed hit, so to finish em off I would gun them. This is how it should be, IMO.

This would eliminate the need for 100% missiles.

Its great for taking down Migs and Su34 in Euro Forces, but for ground pounding it pretty much sucks. The gun is very inaccurate and seems to be less powerful than others, tho thats probably just the inaccuracy.

At first its very hard to control.
