Quite often I look to the skies and stand in awe of some of the pilots as they scoot round and round each other beating ten bells out of each other. Then i switch back on get my de-fibs out and go and save some other poor grunt diggin through the mud..

A good J-10 pilot will never get in range of any manned S2A, and if they do it won't be alive by the time they reach it, so that just leaves you with the airplanes to deal with them. And of course at this point we're just chasing our tails.

Um no, I've done it and it works just fine. The pilot in the J-10 is chasing the F-35, there is no staying high and avoiding AA when you are trying to get a lock and stay on the planes tall. You can't focus on the ground AA to take it out so they are forced into the field of fire. If the J-10 breaks and tries to attack the stinger site the F-35 can pull around and begin chasing after the J-10, which most likely has already dropped it's flares to avoid the AA site.

It's called self-control, and all of the good pilots have it in spades. A good pilot in a J-10 would never be silly enough to chase an F-35B over S2A infested land. Not much point in killing that gimpy airplane if you're going to die because of it.

I know that this game is supposedly unrealistic (but it is realistic in many areas), but this is one area where it is realistic. The type of jet you fly can make a big difference on skill. You think a soppworth camel or a nakijama (WW2 jet bomber) will win out against a JSF? Skill also is also a big part, but the jet has a noticable effect. EX: In the vietnam war, the vienamese used the MiG-21. This jet ruled the skies until the U.S. developed the phantom. the kill rate for phantoms was 10-1. So one jet may be really strong, but thats because it IS the best jet. EA put this jem of realism in, in that you'll probably be shot down if you're in an inferior jet, and aren't an ace.

I think G's should be a factor and used to balance the field. A jet is a jet and each kind has its advantages/disadvantages,thats life. But add a max G's (to include airframe, pilot and missles/bombs, any pilot will tell you its bad news to attempt to fire an over G'ed missile)to the field and now you've leveled it IMHO.

                a little side note :)
PlaneWhore - you mention, that APC/tanks are ideal carbon copies of each other

                no, they are not

there are subtle differences, that are visible only to 'the apc drivers' [tanks are almost identical] - lav is smaller, WZ is shorter, but higher, mec has his cannon in front, lav at the back, etc. these details are maybe minor, but when it comes to two equaly skilled apc drivers, even such nuances comes into equation
dont forget about specnaz apc :)

as for your idea considering planes - i agree, but i'd prefer fighters to be a carbon copy of f18 instead of j10, why? j10 handles like xwing on steroids, not like XXIth century fighter.
but for the most real implementation of dogfight id like to have it like this - lock time is much longer than now - you need to realy work hard and long to keep the lock, but after missile is relased, you dont need to keep the contact with the target - missile is indenpendant, and it does not 'link' with fighter that shot it. simple, yet one might say 'dumb' maybe so, but modern heatseekrs work just that - fire and forget
of course it is not going to happn, because as someone said - it is a minorest thing that bothers dice's deve team. 'who cares' attitude there - they didnt fix the pkm, they didnt correct the typo with 10 max deviation [whould be 1] of mg36, they are not going to change something that requires changing 3! planes statistics..no way, they would have to start new project, assign 'j10 problem managers', set countless meetings, write reports, send memos etc big corporation s..
so, no way [my proposed change doesnt include evening the planes, but making sure, that if rocket is fired, then it is going to hit the target with some degree of certanity, EQUAL for all planes]

                as for'skill bragging'
how you can call it a skill, if you know that you are flying something better than anything in a game - do a video 'planewhore whores f35 and uses it to win wake island for usmc, skillfuly killing j10s'. that would have been a show of skill.

ps. personal comment - your ego.. oh god. i hope it is cureable. if that is what dodays youth is going to become, i dont want to see society in mid of XXIth cen.

Are you serious? Have you ever played this game? Where do you think the F35's are going to be? Where the troops are. That means over the land. If they don't chase after the F35 then chances are it will begin chasing them. And with the new A2A missiles that means a pretty quick death if you aren't the attacker. Or it means the J-10 has to avoid contact with the enemy all together and hope some come out to the safety of the open water. Even then, the F35 can usually get the J-10 to chase them back to the area where the AA site is.

Nowhere has DICE stated they are attempting to perfectly mimic reality with Battlefield 2. In fact, in terms of fun factor reality most of the time sucks when applied to game design. Being shot down because you've got a crappy plane is not fun, for either party. I get absolutely no pleasure shooting down an F-35B with a J-10, I just sort of mentally shrug my shoulders and go on with my buisness.

I've had my BEST dogfights on Kubra Dam. The sweaty palm adrenaline rush grit your teeth type of dogfight. Why? Simple, the F-18 and MiG are almost identical planes in terms of handling.

Yeah, and of course by that logic it makes perfect sense that the most dominant air power in the world has the weakest jets in the game. BRILLIANT!

Sorry but when you have the F-15, the most dominant air superiority fighter currently flying, represented in game as a slow, unmaneuverable bomber you lose all rights to speak to realism. Not to mention this is a GAME, it needs to be balanced for both sides.

I suggest you watch my PlaneWhore Part Deux video, and Highway to the Boredom Zone. Kill plenty of F35B over two rounds, and nowhere did I have to fly over unsecured enemy territory. What are the F35B going to do? Circle around the carrier for the entire round scratching their asses and waiting for some action?

Good point. I love that map for the same thing. But I enjoy F35B vs MiG more because of the differences balancing each others disadvantages/advantages without giving a plane a super edge over another. F35B+throttle control vs Mig = godly dogfights.

LOL, man, that is so wrong in so many levels.

But did you have to face a coordinated team working in tandam? Or did you just pick off solo pilots? The pilot can move out but the also try to pull the J-10 pilots into the kill zones. Which is the whole point of my posts.

Man, thats wrong. Solo pilots is all you get. I had to find mysefl wingmen with the same nutcase jet attitude for teamwork in the skies. You dont get that usually, its extremely rare.
