If you have competent people using surface to air, or decent fighter pilots on your side that care about helping the team this doesn't happen much because that slow moving jet is an easy target for either. The slow glide is actually very possible in a real jet, the only difference being that it requires a much steeper angle of attack than portrayed in the game, to the point where much of the thrust from the engines is used to provide lift and keep the plane in the air.

but since i have never seen anyone cap a flag with a J-10
LOL, I got a capture assaist in a J-10 while low flying on Wake Island just the other day! Ok, it was accidental, but nevertheless a capture assist it was.

Unfortunately this post probably won't last as I don't imagine there'll be many that disagree on this point and without disagreements and flame wars posts tend not to last that long.

Nevertheless I'll do my best to keep it up by posting my agreement on the topic - the J-10 needs to be brought into line with the other planes! Wake Island in particular is often an awfully boring map to play these days, with most US sides unable to breach China's air superiority..

There are two options, bringing the J-10 into line with the other planes, or bringing the other planes into line with the J-10. I favor the second option more than the first. Just nerfing the J-10 just leaves us with a bunch of anemic planes that are dead the second they get some one behind them. Buffing the other planes would give us planes on equal footing that actually had a shot at evading each others missles, and would reintroduce the dog fighting that was killed by patch 1.2.

I'm not a pilot, I much prefer being infantry but can understand why this would annoy pilots, especially if you get put on MEC/China in a round. I know it's not realistic; but then what is in this game, but why not put the same plane on both teams with different colour schemes? Would anyone really care if the planes where the same? At least then you know it would be down to pilot skill. Alternatively as its just a computer game, they could be made to handle exactly the same no matter what they look like.

I too favor the J-10 flight model when compared to other planes. First off, the J-10 is harder to fly overall as it lacks that "stable" or "balanced" feel of the other planes. And of course it is much faster in yaw and pitch, and thus requires more control in the reflexes department to handle correctly. Analagous to racing lawnmowers, versus racing foruma 1 cars.

How does the J-10 currently work with SAMs in 1.21? If the other planes were brought into line with the J-10 (something I'm not inherently against) DICE would need to make sure the SAM sites can still hit them, otherwise we're going round in circles...

US had the advantage on the Blackhawn/transport side, but now it's taken away after 1.2

J-10 is some serious hardware. Check out this screenie form today when I was sniping - the no1 was in the....you guessed it - the J-10

edit: and that was the lamest round I've ever played on tv2 srv 8 wake, ususally everyone scores higher, better teamwork and etc...

Which has nothing to do with what we are talking about here. Although I will say that instead of nerfing the BH they should have just buffed the other choppers. Why is it that whenever there is a balance issue people always want to nerf the more powerful item instead of improving the weaker ones? Playing with a bunch of impotent weapons sucks, I would much rather have equally powerful and effective weapons on each side.

I guess what's even more telling is the team results at the bottom right. Constant China victories and all but one of them are by extremely large margins. Wake Island, pffft.

                        true that!
It's even more pathetic that most higher ranking players switch side all the bloddy time! I mean how low can you go???!!

Well for the sake of some controversy it's not always like that.

Didn't even start flying till we secured the airfield. I crashed then started talking to my m8 and spawned in wrong place so killed myself to spawn at airfield.

I still haven't had chance to try the patch how effective is ground AA against J10, as 1.2? If so then bring it on J10's all round!

Good thing, because if you had the J-10's would have eaten you alive. Try a map where China can't lose its airfield.

IMHO surface to air has quite possibly reached perfection, or at least as close to it as we will ever see in this game. It will usually hit it's target if no flares are used, it doesn't zig zag all over, and it doesn't kill friendlies. It also takes a bit more skill than in 1.2 because you can't just spam missles and trust them to find something on their own, and you can't fire at unrealistic angles and have the missles do 180's to hit the target.

                              Here we go again...

I'll skip the over analysing of PlaneWhores posts and skip straight to the part where I say...

PlaneWhore, you're asking for the kind of fine tuned balancing in BF2 that you're simply NOT going to get from the devs, you're playing a game which encompases land, air and sea battles with massive variance in all these areas.

You should be playing a proper flight sim game if you wish subtle balances like this to be taken seriously.

I think you're a good player, maybe even a fantastic player, but I think most people here know that you're only playing BF2 only in planes because you can use your extreme skill in one area to dominate all the n00bs and ultimatly end the day with a massive score ratio.

Truth is theres not many players of your callibre and if im playing a map where you're ever flying around nailing 100% of the landing boats on wake 2007 then i'll just leave the server, and join another where theres not someone doing that. Theres not enough pilots that good for me to have actually run into one...ever, suffice to say I've never had a problem finding a server where that kind of lameness is going on.

                              So to recap:
                              • Don't bother asking for these kind of subtle balances, you're highly unlikely to get them
                              • Instead go play a flight simulator which is focused enough on flying to provide the finely balanced experience you're after
                              • Stop assuming that theres many other players like you who can fly around next to unopposed, theres not, this is not on the grand scale of things, a big issue
                              • Stop posting this rubbish, you look more like an egotistical prat everytime you do, we all know you like to slip in how good you are at every opportunity.

Yeah I know, well if they had a decent pilot. They were not at all happy with me.

Getting the airfield in the following round was not so easy, will still won but they kept three / four people there all the time.
