Make sure your monitor refresher rate is the same as the games refresh rate.
85 Hertz works best.
If they don't match you will experience frame lag as the two refresh rates are out of sync.

My refresh rate for ingame and the desktop are both 85Hz. I'll be picking up another 512MB stick for a total of 1.5GB.

I've noticed that my FPS is around say 50~60 on Wake, but it still jitters around and I notice my HDD lighting having a bit of a spaz attack! (Yes ive defragged)

I acutally noticed less lag when I switched my graphics from medium to high. :P

I'm not really familiar with your graphics card though...

Ok I picked up another 512MB stick today and chucked everything on high, 1024x768 2xAA and the FPS, UGH!

Having everything on high is overrated and unnecessary. I have ample power to run with higher settings but two things combine that keep me from choosing to do so. The fact is that the higher settings (over medium) do not produce enough eye candy to justify the huge performance hit.

High textures are reserved for those with 2 gigs of ram. I would imagine that is why your HDD was thrashing about - it was loading and unloading textures. Dynamic Light and Shadows is another performance killer yet the difference in appearance between high and medium is hardly noticeable. So there is no need to run those at high settings.

Sound options can kill performance too. And don't forget that using English Only VO will save you about 600+ MB of memory and increase performance by aboiding the need to swap out the different languages.

My system specs and settings are as follows:

Audigy 2 ZS

1280x1024@85Hz
Terrain: Medium
Effects: High
Geometry: High
Texture: Medium

Dynamic Shadows: Medium
Dynamic Lights: Medium
Anti-Aliasing: 2X
Texture Filtering: High
View Distance 100%

I have yet to experience any stuttering or lag using these settings.

Can you recommend what settings should I be running? And how do I check FPS? Game runs smooth at these settings now but would like to tweak of course....thanks!

ooh i know the same ****, i got an 850 xt 256 MB, dual core 3.2, 2 gb ram, i get 30 fps like you do. Hahah **** you dice!
