Crap Performance!

Hey guys need some help!

Im running it on 1024x768 2xAA with the following settings:

Terrain: High
Effects: High
Geometry: High
Texture: Medium
Lighting: Medium
Dynamic Shadows: Medium
Dynamic Lights: Medium
Anti-Aliasing: 2X
Texture Filtering: High

My specs:
3200 Venice @ 2.4Ghz (3800+ Speeds)
1GB DDR400 Kingston 2.5-3-2-5 1T
200GB IDE Seagate
256MB Gigabyte 6800GS 485/1100

Surely those specs are enough to run the game at those settings? Because at the moment my FPS is dipping to the low 20's , any ideas?

Take a look at this, most settings medium/low 1024x768 0xAA!

Try this...
1152x864 4xAA with the following settings:
Terrain: High
Effects: Medium
Geometry: High
Texture: High
Lighting: Medium
Dynamic Shadows: Off
Dynamic Lights: Off
Anti-Aliasing: 4X
Texture Filtering: High
View distance 100%

Make sure you card settings are Vsync-off, AA-application controled, AF-application controled, Image Quality- high performance.

Might also wanna check your drivers default settings. I have my drivers default set way different outside of games than inside, so you might wanna check what's on there. Make sure AA and AF and all is app controlled and not off

I agree that you should get better performance. I have a similar system and I can move along at a breezy 50 fps at all times. I would suspect you have a driver problem (mixed driver files all over the PC). But the first thing to do is alway start by ensuring the system is in good health before looking at the game as a cause.

Still, do the obvious first by deleting BF2's cache file and defragment your HDD. Shut down everything not used and use English only voices to save about 600MB of memory. The cache file is located at:

C:\Documents and Settings\Shamus\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

and

C:\Documents and Settings\Shamus\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\xpack\cache

Delete the folders that have the long numbers for filenames.

Yep ive tried cleaning out the cache, same performance.

you need 2gb for smoother performance. Btw, are you using latest gpu drivers?

Im using the 84.20's. Seems ill have to buy some more RAM :)

is your pc at least up to spec? What do you get in 3dmark05? If you get lower than the usual score for a 6800 Gs something is wrong with ur pc

I get about 6000 points in 05.

yeah you can test it in 3dmark05, but dont test it when you are testing the card for game performance, best to just play games than lol... but just to check it you should do it ...

Make sure your monitor refresher rate is the same as the games refresh rate.
85 Hertz works best.
If they don't match you will experience frame lag as the two refresh rates are out of sync.
