It seems like 75% of the people I am dueling with will drop down to prone. I find it silly. Its like "you have to prone"if you want to kill someone...

Its like, you cant just shoot people now days, you got to first lay on the ground... it requires so much button clicking...

Yeah the insta proning is silly and predictable. If you come across a guy holding a PKM just aim at his shoelaces and fire because that is where his head is going to be in .05 seconds. =P

First, I spot him. So I can get the help of teammates.

Then I go crouch or prone depending on our positions relative to one another.

First, I do the same thing as Talus. In case he wins the shoot-out, then he will be spotted for my teammates to clean up my mess. The rest, however, depends on the situation. If I can find cover I use that to partially conceal myself. If he hasn't seen me, I try to get closer. If we're both looking at each other from a distance, I go prone to minimize my target area. Depends on the situation.

i would say 9 out of 10 times i will always go prone.... as i mainly play as support now with the pkm, it would be stupid not to go prone no matter what distance it is

i will pretty much always go prone. you have got a much better chance of winning the battle in a prone position due to the fact that your accuarcy is increased and generaly they dont expect you to go prone at such short distances.

It depends on circumstances (i.e. support must be prone). If I've got a real good chance of winning, I'll shoot him, usually from whatever position I'm already in. Most of the time, though, I make a fighting retreat. It's something I learned to do from being sniper, but it really works. Shoot a bit to distract, and then run away. Usually, you can find some cover or create a quick bit of defensive advantage for yourself. If he doesn't chase you, then make a plan and attack. It's just a simple doctrine of fighting when you've got the odds. Works pretty well for me.

Depending on circumstance

At Distance: Spot, prone, fire, kill
At Medium: Spot, prone/crouch, fire, kill
At short: fire, kill (prone or crouch optional)
Run into someone around a corner: Get suprised = jump, fire, kill.

As most people said, there are too many factors to have such a simple prone? What kit am I, what gun am I using, where am I in relation to them?

Any gun you want to be using.

(obviously sniper and PKM' is not a good choice, because we obviously know what to do then)

Not to compare the game to real life but most of the military vids I watch show soldiers when they encounter the enemy at anything over 60 yards drop to the ground. Why not make yourself as small of a target as you can? anything closer than 60 yards or so I stand up and shoot, I dont know that numbers but is there that big of a difference between standing and crouch accuracy on most non LMG weapons?

If prone didn't affect your accuracy, then I might try to move and fire.

But since it increases your accuracy signifigantly, I always go prone, not to mention you are a smaller target.

First part is the same as Talus, but I usually toss a nade after I spot them. Makes him move and that usually gives me a slight advantage depending on the situation. If I think I will lose the fight throwing the nade gives me a chance to move to a better spot. If I have the advantage I let the nade do it job then finish off with my main gun. If it's a sniper rifle or support gun, yes I will go prone for better accuracy.
