I've got a sweet tip for iron gator:

don't play it.

I totally agree. Sometimes I will play it because I have been on a server with a good set of teamates and just stick it out until the next map. I hate every minute of it though. Most of the time I just find another server.

pre patch - used Eryx to get Air Defense ribbon.

Played on Mec side for first time last night.
Boat got locked down tight.

Get someone onboard + spawn definitely.
One thing I tried doing is using jet skis to race to Gator.
Steal boats off sides + use their heavier guns on US protecting backside.
