        Re: Worst Commanders?

some people play as commander do just shooting, not doing thier jobs as commander,so they want to win "2x bonus for win" only for commander and want a high point to get new rank.

              Re: Worst Commanders?

Whenever I command I hide somewhere safe, then do all I can to help my team win. I will not use a tank or APC unless they're capping the main and I'm the only one there. I drop supplies on all armor (if they don't need it now they will soon enough) everytime, unless my equipment is destroyed and I need it for that. I will not drop arty on a base with friendlies attacking it unless they are VASTLY outnumbered (i.e. a couple guys against 10 or 20). I try not to fight directly as it hinders my commanding, but we all know sometimes you have to pitch in quickly.

Basically I do everything a commander should.

              My issue is with squads.

Think about it, I have a scanner to see where everyone in the game is located, and I have a perfect picture of what is needed where. Does it not make sense that I have good reason for asking you to do what I am?

I had one squad leader initiate a mutiny against me because I ordered him to attack the south base on Wake while he was at the north base. Bear in mind NOBODY was there and they had all the south flags. He didn't understand that sure defense is good, but when you're back is to the wall you better attack or lose.

I cannot tell you the times entire squads refused to take orders and all I could do was type commands to the rest of the team (non-squad). I've won a few rounds like this!

The best is when a clan forms a squad, they listen and they're good. Other times, it is so hopless I just want to resign and go fight myself.

Yes, commanders need to work for their team, but the team needs to work with the commander!

In other words, the fewer UAVs, Scans, Supply Crates, successful Artillery Strikes, spotted enemies, etc., the less votes required to take him down. This would ensure the commanders who aren't doing anything are easily kicked and it would also protect the good commanders from those BS kick-votes initiated by fools who merely want a fancy star over their heads and lots of fun toys.
This is just ludicrous. If playing poorly was a criteria for getting kicked, then the servers would all be empty. I realize you mean kicked from just being a commander, but why just commander? Why not other support type classes.
Besides, some commanders, are just trying to learn how to be a commander.
                    Just move on.

                      Re: Worst Commanders?

Ok, I have only played as commander a few times. I am by no mean an expert at it. Please tell me if I'm off track with any of this.

My reasoning on it is the same as every other class in the game. If you're gonna play as a medic, be a medic. Same for support, engineer, and so on. If you want to be commander, be somewhere you can command and not get killed. A dead commander can't watch the screen, drop supplies, fire artillery, etc. I hide and watch. I listen to my squad leaders. If the guys get clusted up, i drop supplies. If they take one flag, I drop arty on the next closest or the nearest group(note: I said 'group' not single guy just because he's there). I try to give my SL's a heads up if my mic is working. I don't fight unless I'm alone at the main base and a scan shows someone near me. I never put the UAV over me because it's needed elsewhere.

Does this sound wrong? I'm still a beginner at this game, just a corporal. But I was an Infantryman for 4 years and Sergeant for 16 months with 2 combat tours. I relate how I should play in the game by what I know in real life.

Oh, and Mr.Benis. Yes, arty is a wonderful thing. But at the end of the day, it's the Infantry that gets the job done. INFANTRY LEADS THE WAY!

BAd commanders-besides the many new bugs introduced with 1.2-are my biggest gripe about BF2- There are so many bad ones--It is a relief to just get someone who may not be good but at least tries-Why morons think going out in the field and fighting while commanding is a good thing is beyond me

90 hours of playing and i've not been a commander once, i don't intend to. Let someone else do the dirty work. I just wana have fun tbh. Don't even like being squad leaders. Just give me orders and i'll try my best to do it. Works for me.

Also commanders get alot of stick for no reason. Much like Managers/Coaches in football (soccer) teams. Takes the ****. People always moan about the people @ the top. (But sometimes i have to agree the commander can be very crap but i don't really care)

                              Re: Worst Commanders?

I've just started playing commander..maybe 8 to 10 rounds under my belt now. I actually got my basic command badge yesterday. I've read alot of threads in this forum on the commanders role etc. and have tried to incorporate all the good points i've read into how I play the role. The more practiced I'm getting in the position the better I feel about playing as commander. IMO the role of the commander is all about teamwork! If you take on that role to aid only yourself then your cheating yourself and the rest of your team out of the intended game experience.
After 3 rounds as USMC commander i joined the game as a squad member and typed to the team..I don't want to whore the commander spot..someone else grab it up.. 2 replies.. go for it..your doing great.. that made me feel good. I waited about 3 minutes..no one applied so i scooped it up again. A few rounds later, I got tired of commanding and got back with the squad i played in earlier. I asked on voip for there feed back on how i did. ( i'm not out to stroke my ego.. I wanted constructive critisisim) The response was good..and a couple of pointers for my next attempt.
I'm certain my first few attempts at the command position would not of won me any friends.
A few things that I've learned.. Use the zoom map mode when using arty when friendlies are around. ... Reward good squads as much as possible..ie..UAV support..supply drops..advanced arty on flags there headed to..spotting enemy around them... I'm finding that you usually get one to two good squads an a bunch of small "NO SIR" squads.
Anyways..the more I play..the more disgusted I get when I see commanders doing the stupid things as posted in this thread. I'll usually get ****ed enough to start spamming the need orders request. Its amazing how fast that catches on. "Requesting Orders".. other squad leaders realise our commander is sh*t.. they start "Need Orders Here" ..wait till that gets rolling then initiate the mutiny vote. I've seen that tactic work twice

To be honest, I don't mind if they're learning / playing poorly, Cardini. In fact, just yesterday, I was vigorously defending and helping some poor kid who was playing the role of Commander for the first time and half the team was abusing him and trying to get him to resign. I've got no problems with people who are in the process of learning and do not yet know the ins and outs of the role, so long as they're trying their best.

My issue is with people who take the role of Commander and then completely neglect to use the assets. Time and time again, I've played under Commanders who play their usual game on the frontlines but with the added bonus of a nice star over their heads and a 2x bonus if the team wins. They don't use ANY of the assets for the entire round and when they do, it's purely in service of their own game.

This is in stark contrast to people who are simply trying to learn the role, and unlike virtually everyone else on the team, a good Commander can be crucial to any victory. I find that it's extremely rare to lose under a really dedicated commander and that's why I think the vote numbers for a successful mutiny should be determined by the level of their dedication (specifically: how often they use the assets).

If you've got no problem playing under Commanders who never use the assets, then I'm happy for you ... but I just find it selfish and annoying.
