I hate commanders that sit in armor at the USMC base on Karkand... actually commanders that sit in armor in general on Karkand unless it's me since I actually know what I'm doing. Worst commander I had was a guy who became commander, went AFK, and did absolutely nothing. His name was grayed out most of the round and I couldn't get enough mutiny votes to kick him out. Yep voting is a joke.

hey, at least hes doing SOMETHING.
would you rather he be sitting in the team's only tank back at the USMC base, with 5 supply crates in front of him in a wall? :)

if hes spawn-camping the hotel spawn then hes a wad, but at least he is supppressing that spawn for your team. not exactly a noble tactiic but at least the APC wasnt wasted.

BTW - what is it about people that compels them to crawl up a tank's a$$ all the time?
a tank needs to be able to move to evade rockets, tank shells, artillery, close infantry, etc. yet 9 times out of 10 when i back up in a tank i either ram into an APC/humvee that is RIGHT ON MY A$$, or run over some idiot that is standing there.
WTF is wrong with some people? and no, they arent repairing me. foor some reason on the servers i play on most drivers arent engineers but rathher support or snipers. so while im repairing them, they cant repair me. i have to drive to the middle of nowhere to repair my tank otherwise when i get out some teammate will jack it when they see me repairing it.

IMO you should not even be able to drive armor unless you are an engineer. period.
how many infantrymen do you know that can drive a tank?

I will stand behind a tank if I'm under fire.. and yes I command a fair bit too (130 hours as com, 170 sm and 180+ sl) and I know what to do.

If the commanders being a ****, note his location, switch teams then let him have it!

I just left a Mashtuur server. I was SL. Me and some guys made our way to a flag. I called for UAV. The commander on comm said "Wait a minute, we're in a firefight." What? Great, a fighting commander. IMO a fighting commander = ultimate moron. Anyway, we took the flag. About 5 mins later and long after we took the flag and moved on to something else this idiot gets on comm and says "WHO NEEDS UAV? WHO CALLED UAV EARLIER? HELLO, HELLO, CAN ANYONE HEAR ME?" A true f'ing moron he was.

i dont cry when i Tk someone. i do my best to avoid TKs but im not going to lose sleep over them.
the problem is morons who punish for their own retarded actions, coupled with playing on a server that kick/bans you for 3 punishes.

want to take cover behind a tank? go for it. but realise the tank driver has no clue you are there - and if he backs up to avoid an AT rocket and squashes your ass dont punish him - the -4 points he just got is bad enough. i routinely take cover beside tanks and apcs, but no way ill stand behind them.
and it really sucks when you try and back up to avoid a rocket or sprinting spec-ops that is too close to fire upon and you bump into an APC that is right on your ass. sure you can push him out of the way, but at 1/5th the speed you could normally back up, which is far too slow to avoid anything.

it ****es me off so much when vehicle drivers crawl right up to my ass when im driving a tank that sometimes ill just turn around and blast them with the goddamn turret to drive the point home. its retarded behavior and shows no thinking on the part of the other vehicle driver. you NEED to maneouver with the vehicles in BF2 and with someone pushed up to the back of your tank its impossible.

no usually the players are the morons who dont follow your orders to fix stuff, ive played commander before where all my my equipment was taken out. The ONLY squad that had an engineer ignored my plea for repairs, luckily i had my own clan on ts who spawned as engineers and fixed it but the point is if i had spawned as an engineer being commander, i would have a) spent all my time repairing my stuff and b) not commanding properly for that very reason.

"follow my orders soldiers" - if its within reason that is, i hate commanders that send you to the other side of the map all the time for no reason at all.

Yea, but I'd rather have em spotting, paying more attention to where things are, etc.

I didn't understand why he was doing it. You don't get pts for kills as CO. Surely someone other than the commander could've done what he was doing.

lol. in a real combat situation his troops would have fragged him.
perhaps my problem is im playing on servers that are very anti-TK. i should look for a server with no TK bans where i can mete out my own form of justice to idiot players and commanders.

a few days ago i ran for the tank on karkand, and someone got into it befoore me. no worries, i hop in the gunner seat and away we go. a minute later he stops on the road and starts yelling 'bail out!' 'bail out!' as another teammate jumps up onto the chassis of the tank.
i dont bail out, and wait for him to keep going. the guy on the chassis, presumably his friend, deliberately knifes me in the face and takes the gunner seat.
f#cking kids, really.
if i were playing on a server that allows TKs id have been more than happy to spend the rest of the night chain-killing him until he left. i had to content myself with following him around and flashbanging him constantly :)
eventually i got him banned by running into his grenades and diving under his moving tank, then punishing. revenge is sweet.

I'm getting more and more fed up with second-rate commanders, too; especially the ones who use the assets to compliment their own game and neglect to help anyone else.

I've always thought it'd be better for the kick vote threshold to be dependant upon the regularity with which the commander is using the assets.

In other words, the fewer UAVs, Scans, Supply Crates, successful Artillery Strikes, spotted enemies, etc., the less votes required to take him down. This would ensure the commanders who aren't doing anything are easily kicked and it would also protect the good commanders from those BS kick-votes initiated by fools who merely want a fancy star over their heads and lots of fun toys.

If I experience a really bad one I hunt them down and knife them. I then explain to them why I knifed them.

To me, a commander should:
- have a MIC
- be an Engineer
- hide somewhere at the main team base (no fight at all, if you want to fight = get out of commander job)
- he should spend the entire round on the commander screen (spot, supply, arty, talking with SL, etc)
- he can repair his toys when broken (and keep an eye on the commander screen)

And please, if you think I'd punish, I'm sure theres some global tracker out there somewhere that tracks whether I do or not.. you'd find my ratio to be something like 1:50. The interpretation of that figure, I leave up to you.

This is something that really does my head in, time and time again you will see the commander out on the frontline in a tank using the role to his own gain, the server rules must be more strict on this, i command a lot and use all the assets for the team and team alone, not for my own gain! i only fight when i need to defend the area i am hiding at! Nice thread.
