    Re: Being Commander !!

If there only 12-20 people in the server I fight aswell but I won't get in a jet or chopper.
More than 20 people, I will go and hide somewhere and spend the round in commander view.

Some activity can be helpful, but most of the time you can do more while hiding. Also, remember that every kill you make takes potential points away from you.

There's a limited number of tickets. When you shoot someone, you don't get a point... but if someone else did, there score would go up and add to yours. Same goes for capping flags, making repairs, and blowing people up with artillery.

Infact, I rarely use artillery if I can help it. When I do, it's usually against some pesky sniper that I just know is going to be score points of my guys. Also using it defensively when the enemy is capping an undefended CP.
Oh, and AA has become a prioity target now too. Can't stand my flyboys whinging about overpowered AA!

I agree with most of what you said, however

I don't play for score, when playing commander I do everything I can to ensure my team wins, and that includes artying the hell out of the enemy

My point was that there is no indication of how well you're doing as commander, a player who has never before played commander, playing on the same side as a clan against another side of random players, in theory, will get high scores, and so appear to do well.

Does that make him a good commander?

Of cource I blow the hella outta the emeny if we need the point reduction... I said I don't use arty if I can help it. If my team's gonna blow out the round, I'd rather they get the points.

Is a habbit that's apresiated by the regulars on the server I play on most.

I start by picking my hiding place somewhere close to a vital CP or assets. That way, I know they're never going to be completely ungaurded. If things get hairy enough, I'll do my best to help the grunts by laying in cover fire and workin around the edges, while making damned sure that any assets at my disposal are still being used.

I was commanding on Wake, not long ago, when our airfield got stormed. I tried to warn the team that the CP was in trouble, but the SLs didn't react quickly enough. The flag fell. I was hiding in a dumpster trying to rally the boys to get in there, but the place was perty damned thick with yanks already. Then I noticed none of them had bothed to pick up the tank...

I popped out of the command window after launching a UAV directly overhead and made a break for the tank. Almost got taken out by someone stealing one of our planes as I crossed the runway... then I got spotted, shot twice, and made it into the tank. I had a major kill spree and caused enough havok for my boys to get in there and secure the flag before getting taken out.

Hehe, one of those moments. Very satisfying.
agree - be Tactically active when necessry
(I still have to remind myself to jump back into command screen)
but we also almost always have clan mates in game
and they ALWAYS respond to clan commander orders

I zoom out for scans and such, but usually I'm right in tight. You can't do that kind of detailed spotting and command when you're humpin it up the road.
              ^^^^
              yep !!!
I spend 90% of my time zoomed on armor capping flags -
              watching their back
              or
zooming on flags ouside the UAV
              as you all know
you cannot arty a flag that turns white and kill anyone
              (unless they are noobs)
but oh how sweet it is
to catch the guy , who just ran a country mile
and have the arty hit him just as he arrives at the flag

to the gent that can do it all in 20 secs
              then play
              of course you can
              anyone can
but you CANNOT do it to the best the position has to OFFER
              IMPOSSIBLE
              it might be 'good enough'
and might be better than most
but just think how much MORE effective you can be !
              not trying to flame you
              just SHOUTING my thughts

              :)

Thats a good commander pretty much the way i play ill camp near what i consider the most vital flag and if it gets attacked and i can do something about its killing time.

You can do all effective commanding within 20 seconds, with, a 1 minute break from all commanding duties. Within this 1 minute, I play. When time is up, i crank up the command screen again, and relay any important information, direct squads, and lay down some arty, drop supplies, then go back to keeping/ or helping get the next flag in line.
Your wasteing UAV time by doing that you can UAV every 35 seconds then youve got scans then youve got to spot vital targets. Also if you go to commander screen every minute while in battle your going to get shot alot in commander screen. Either that or you going to carry on fighting to kill all enemies in the area and your wasting more time again . Or your going to stick the UAV on your area so you can kill anyone around you.

IMO commanders should command and only command unless the SH*T hits the fan.

                    Re: Being Commander !!

well, i carried on and on, and apologies.....
however my main focal point was,
kicking a commander simply because you see him active, is stupid. Unless he is a total waste of space, ignoring supply and uav calls......... then you ought to stick it out and see first, before kicking. And supplying a sniper, that is out in the middle of nowheres, where idealy he is having zero to no impact, is not ignoring calls for supplies. They only get supplies, if no one else will benefit ....at the time.

and rarely do i waste uav time. Uav time is for objective based capture flag points, or for when a squad is in danger of getting wiped out, or we get flanked. Other then that it is the infantrys duty to call out most individual spots.
Like I said. As a commander i dont believe it is your job to spot everything on the map. Only main focal objectives. That also includes unforeseen dangers that lurk, that might take a good group out. If I see someone going to a flag, i''ll often do a scan...if there is nothing there, i wont UAV. I'll also remember to scan that again...to ensure they have an easy capture. If not they get uav. I dont waste any resources. Including placing it anywheres, anytimes. Its not how often you use stuff.....spotting/arty/supplies/ordering etc. etc. Its when. and, in theory, that could be once, in one round.

When i am a commander i usually hide at strategic flags and kill the enemies that comes along

Is this normal or do you commanders still run around shooting things aswell ??

There seems to be lots to do as commander

                        Cheers

Yes, it's normal. Only the moronic point whores run around while commander. Just today I had a commander who thought it was OK to fly planes while we were getting raped at the MEC airfield defending his assets that he wasn't even using. He was too busy flying to drop supplies, scan, UAV. In the end we got raped and lost the round. If I could have found him I would have knifed him.
