But it is your computer, just maybe not the hardware side of it (or not the hardware you are looking at).

For example, I built my own rig and here are the specs:

    ASUS AN8 Ultra Mobo
    AMD 64 3000+
    2Gb DDR400
    300Gb SATA HDD
    BFG 7800GTX OC 256Mb

and when I tried to run BF2, it would crash the computer after 20 minutes on 800x600 medium settings. I replaced the cheap power supply that came with the case with a better one and now it runs 1280x1024 all high with 4xAA 8xAF without even breaking a sweat.

It is your computer but your computer is much more than just a CPU, RAM and a GPU.

You needed an option including your internet service. My system runs great but Comcast in the Bay Area has been so terrible lately I can barely stay connected... =\

btw guys, you need to try ultra high mode in video settings. Most of us have good rigs and they can definetly handle ultra high settings. IT does make a big difference.

1024x768 4xAA 16xAF all high except lighting and dynamic shadows.
Runs good enough for me so I'mpretty happy with it.

8XAA that LOOKS like 16xAA with the same performance as 8x.

Can you provide a screenshot? Just want to double check.

Antialiasing Settings: The possible sample rates of Antialiasing here are Off, 2x, 2xQ, 4x, 4xG, 4xS, 6xS, 8xS and 16x. You can also select Transparency and Gamma Correct Antialiasing (See below) to add to these modes, but not in this section. Depending on your particular Nvidia graphics card, some of these modes will not be available to you. In general, the higher the sample rate of Antialiasing used, the smoother jagged lines in games will appear, but the lower your performance. The precise performance and visual impact depends on your graphics hardware and the resolution of the game in question.

It is important to note that on Nvidia graphics cards, any Antialiasing modes ending in 'Q' stand for Quincunx Antialiasing - a form of Antialiasing which provides a higher level of visual quality for a lower level of performance loss. For example, the 2xQ (Quincunx) mode offers similar visual improvements to 4x Antialiasing, with a performance level similar to that of 2x Antialiasing. Any Antialiasing modes ending in 'S' provides greater sub-pixel coverage, meaning the quality of Antialiasing provided is better, however performance may be lower. For example, 4xS Antialiasing looks better than 4x Antialiasing, but also performs slightly worse. Note that any 'S' mode Antialiasing setting only works in Direct3D games. Finally, any 'G' mode (Gaussian) Antialiasing mode provides better image quality than the equivalent standard Antialiasing sample rate, but at a lower performance level. The Transparency Antialiasing and Gamma Correct Antialiasing descriptions are found further below and only work on the 7800 series cards.

Note, if you are running two graphics cards in SLI mode, you can access two new Antialiasing modes here - SLI8x and SLI16x. However first you will have to set the SLI Rendering Mode setting to SLI Antialiasing.

I tried that and there was such a little difference it wasn't worth the stutter on map load.

My fps jumped from <40 to >60 when I changed from my built-in soundcard (AC '97) to the cheapest Soundblaster I could get my hands on.

Well, it runs practically the same (4xAA 16xAA, everything high), I've only got one problem with 1.2 and that is that I have oftenly lost the connection after I press join game. It can't be my internet because when I am ingame I have a ping of 9 or 10.

Re: How well does your rig work with BF2

Mine runs it really well, everything set to high, 1280x1024, 4xAA and 100% view distance. Also using 4x AF in my drivers, through ATi Tray Tools.

I recently dropped lighting, dynamic shadows and dynamic light to medium, as re-optimization takes too long with these on, imo.

Not sure of the fps as this doesn't bother me - if it visually runs smooth, it's good enough for me.

                              PC Spec:
                              AMD64 3500 Winchester
                              MSI Neo4 Platinum nForce 4
                              2048 OCZ 3200 Platinum Rev 2 CAS 2
                              ATi X800XTPE
                              SB Audigy 2ZS

                              Scort.

Edit: Hey Milio, I also get that problem, but assume it is something to do with the 'really good server browser' - usually clicking join again connects; providing you find the same server.
