My perspectives on chopper in 1.2

Gunner is more powerful than Pilot in vanilla BF2. Because of having played ghost town too much.I found it hard too adapt to the vanilla choppers..I found myself running out of missiles in critical times. I usually fly at high speed at attacking targets. It has been my style to fire more than required missiles to destroy armor as when a chopper is flying at high speed. At speed, chances of missiles hitting are less. Thus with chopper only having 8 missiles .It definitely reduces the performance of a chopper to take down armor significantly. Apache Longbow is so much powerful than all the vanilla chopper. Yes I think it is more powerful than MI28 too.

    My perspective?

Gunner is more powerful than Pilot in Vanilla BF2.
Heck Vanilla Chopper is total crap without gunners. With 8 missiles it is so hard to take out a chopper now. So the importance of TV missiles has increased. When I play Chopper with my pal. Most of the time it is my(the gunner's) job to destroy the opponent chopper not the pilot. I don't know how about other people. It is something like a whopping 5:1 Kill Gunner to Pilot kill ratio in chopper vs chopper engagement.

Pilot is more powerful than gunner in Special Forces
In fact,I prefer to fly Apache on my own rather than with a gunner. The gunner is almost useless in my opinion. As the pilot's crosshair is above the gunner's minigun or tv,pilots will normally take up all the kills before a gunner does. No matter how hard I try to spray bullets at the person manning the AA upfront, pilots will always get the kill first. To line up shots for the gunner, a pilot has to hover around and fly slow but that makes the chopper more vulnurable.
An effective Apache is an Apache that flies fast.An Apache that flies fast makes a gunner useless.
A gunner in HIND might be more useful than in Apache but it is because HIND is just crap. The missiles fires out of target.

A gunner is powerful in BF2 but useless in SF. What do you think? I would like to see some kind of "standardised" function. Equal capabilities of pilot and gunner in both BF2 and SF. I would expect BF2 and SF have the same amount of missiles. Elevate the TV missiles view of the SF choppers and the minigun crosshair.Buff up the Hind or change it with Mi28.

the point of an AT chopper is hover at a big distance and fire a guided missle, the ww2 fighterplane nosedive attacks are not what those choppers are made for, and thats to bad.
i fly allot, especially at sharqui, i hover at sealevel, someone spots an armour, i go up to streetlevel, line up and my gunner takes m out with a guided missle, its the most effective way, coz aa wont get a grip, and all enimie tanks are history in notime :P
you shoud try it with the mi28 or hind, with a hind it works awsome coz its less manouverable.

In my opinion, in Vanilla BF2, the most powerfull combination is, beeing a solo pilot and beeing able to fire those tv missiles yourself...

It drastically reduces the reactiontime to fire the missile on target...
(don't have to wait for a gunner to react)

I had no problems piloting the chopper and getting plenty of rocket kills yesterday...mind you, my gunner was the one always getting gold :p

The thing is, the pilot is supposed to let the gunner do most of the killing.

Get on VOIP people...use the server's TeamSpeak server if you have to and create or use a 'chopper' channel. Don't fly choppers solo...if they had meant it to be that way, they would only have 1 seat labeled 'chopper whore'.

problem is most gunners suck big time, they don't see most of the enemy's, they miss like hell with the tv misile , ....

SF choppers are indeed massive destruction, just got a freaking 39 kill streak with the hind on surge , and with the apache it's rocking time , but new AA hunts you and you need to be on the move constantly

A chopper pilots job in BF2 is to get his gunner in position to get kills. In my eyes there is only one proper time the pilot should fire off his rockets, it's when he is lined up for a prefect shot knowing that it's gonna hit with a 85 to 90% accuracy. Shoot line up the AH-1Z with any helio and it goes down with 4 or 5 rockets.

FFAR's are useful for conserving hellfires and to make dead certain you get an AA emplacement. They're also fun to snipe infantry with.

That is true. With only 8 missiles, the gunner is the primary weapon with the gun and TVGMs. Missisles are not accurate at all, the pilot should manaveur to stay alive and repair when needed.

Still, it's what I love to do...
Even with good gunners, I still get irritated by lack of reaction...

Fact is, I am way more effective flying solo...
I am really good and fast with those TV missiles...

Had Dice not meant it this way, they would have made it impossible...

Why don't you play a single player game then? or find another online that game that has 1 man vehicles...UT2K4 comes to mind.

I agree with your statement on vanilla, but the gunner has always been more powerful really (If you had a good one). Without a pilot that can line you up a good gunner is rather useless, so its give and take. My gunners (pre 1.2 and post 1.2) almost always outscore me, but that's how its supposed to be. '

They have a gun great for infantry, I have rockets just incase they miss their TV shot.
