    Re: Commander mode

i like the idea of precision strikes and releaving squad leaders of there command but the squad mates shouldnt be able to ask for stuff thats why the squad leader is there, and lone wolfs choose not to contribute to the team, and finally the command bunker is an awesome idea, make it maybe like a vehical that you go in and out of to go to commander mode and can be destroyed by alot of c4, i dont know..

      Re: Commander mode

I think it should be mandatory that everyone join a squad, and I would also like to see it mandatory that every squad leader have voip so they can communicate to their members. Anyone in a plane or attack chopper should be in a squad.

I have been killed lots of times by my own teammates when commanding. I think that should result in -20 points or something to deter that from happening, and conversely, if the other team kills the commander, that person should get a nice big score like +8 or something.

Following orders should also result in extra points. If you tell a squad to attack a point or defend a flag and they then actually go to that point and attack/defend, etc. that should result in extra points for that squad and the commander. Something is needed as an incentive for people to follow orders.

I know that's not always possible because you can be near a flag that the commander wants to defend or take but you might also be in a firefight and can't move right away, but for the most part people just rush around wildly like they are on crank. When I play as medic I can't tell you how many times I run up to someone with low health only to have the idiot run from me because he's too intent on nonstop fighting even though he only has 10% health and would die if the wind blows too hard. It's insane sometimes.

Commanders have plenty to do. I am a fighting commander and I always contribute to the cause in some way besides being in the commander screen. When your tools are recharging do something productive like AA, asset repair/defense from a vehicle, (you are a engineer right?) and pick one flag to defend. It should be the flag closest to your assets so you can get back to them quickly. It can be alot to deal with at once, but soon you will get your timing right, and then you can be a valuable defender as well as a stratego. I dont lay down and hide, if they (Dice) did not want you to participate, you would not have an avatar in the game.

PS. Dont give orders to players unless they are asking for them on pubs, just try to warn them if arty is comming. They see what flags need taking, most are depending on the squad leader to issue orders.

I typically hate fighting commanders. You risk getting killed which takes you out of commander mode for too long. It's just stupid. You have a team to do those things for you. I think most of you fighting commanders are just trying to get as many points as you can.

Don't give orders to players? That's just moronic. I hope I never have to serve under your command. I think I would probably hunt you down and knife you for your incompetence.

ok precision bombs are usually targeted by a lazer designator by someone on the ground usually

or they are "smart bombs" with cameras or a built in guidiance system we know america rules the roost with this ordinance
but it's a little to much i think for a commander to have at his back and call can we expect rebels to have this or an mec army i think not
so we are left with quick deploy dumb artillery which can hit an area with some serious effect...

and really in bf2 you would still have some retard go charging in to the strike zone even though the large arty warning is flashing on his screen and the commander would get another team kill to his name

                Re: Commander mode

Flame away, but I get the job done. I dont understand people who dont play commander but want to dictate how the commander does his job. I contribute greatly to the success of the team and my support actions mean that I dont drop supply crates on assets, I repair them myself. That means more supply drops for the team's vehicles and infantry and it means less people having to worry about defending the main base and back flags. That in turn means more of my men are on the attack, taking the fight to the enemy's front flags. I will not lay down and hide just because of some preconceived notions of what a commander should be doing.
When I am not a commander and play squad leader, nothing is more annoying than a commander giving me an order to take a flag I am already heading twards. Squad leaders will ask for orders if they need them, they dont need someone constantly distracting them with orders they dont need. I support my team, I dont try to tell them how to play.

sounds like you are either really crap at the job, or you just make many **** ups your team wont stand by you, personally, i love the job, get squads working, and seem to do just fine, guess there must be way to p*** your team off that you are just good at

are you for real? america may own more ordinance than everyone else, but rules the roost? rofl, check out your 'ruling' stats from both gulf conflicts, and you will see the results of your 'ownage'. more like ownage-in-the-totally-missed-and-hit-the-wrong-target-department, while some of those things hit home, a strangely HUGE amount did not, something between 84 and 92 per cent missed completely. ah books, munchies for the mind

Back on target with the commander's tools.

I would be against the commander being able to kick people from squads.
Bad enough the computer will reassign you to another team upon dieing.

But think about the issues that would arise after some jack-ass goes around pulling people from squads. We allready deal with TKing, punishing.. etc. We dont need Squad disasembly being another thing being abused (Especially when it is all but impossible to replace the commander)

Smart munitions? If it would be tied to an actual player on the ground doing something, i wuld be more inclined to see it. Perhaps someone "designating" the target etc. But not simply with the UAV seeing it

I remember Lazer Guidance being in the game pre-release. They said a Soldier on the ground would have the lazer gun and would hold and point it at the target. They then said the pilot would see it on the mini-map and then could go bomb it. Sounded cool but they took it for NO reason.

Also im a good commander and win often, i always help my team when they need it. I also stay in Commander mode but kinda gets boring.

Commanders sould be able to parachute in tanks or jeeps. Maybe Jeeps more becuase they are less effective.

Omg... how stupid are you.... MORE attack power from some fat ass, lazy commander, point+click and BOOM your dead? Its a way of cheap kills, lets accept that and move on, yet you want MORE power to the attack weapons of the commander?? FGS, good joke, right ?

Jesus christ, even artillery makes me want to go and kick something.. TOMAHAWKS!?

but i doo like the different voice that the commander gets...whenever he yells "grenade!" he sounds like a dying soldier calling for a medic :)

The most important thing a commander can do is point out where the enemy is, especially in a non-UAVed area being attacked by your teammates. Zoom in on the map all the way and spot the targets manually, it's a big deal to those attacking, and can make the difference for a flag capture.

Orders can help, especially if there's an empty flag that can be easily taken, or you need help regaining your commander assets. If your team just feels like having fun their own way though, don't be too intrusive.

This might sound odd or wasteful, but sometimes (rarely) I put the UAV in a area that has no enemies, to encourage teammates defending the area to move to the front lines, knowing the area is secure.
