Re: AA range to short now.

Everytime I come into a topic like this I'm going to give the same "solution" I have given before... it goes as follows:

"Add a Mobil A.A. vehicle for EVERY air-vehicle that's on the map! So, there should be 4 of them to each 64-Man Map. Simple, the mobile A.A. stacks of 'equally' to the Jets/Helos. It's a perfect solution! Run with it!"

    ...there you have it.

And what map was this???? The Discussion is about lock on, not how far the missiles travel....Does the chopper get a lock before the AA????...So the simple answer would be to show the distance before the AA locks and compair this to the distance a Chopper gets its lock...Are they equal????

That's confirmed? 300m? Is that missile lifespan or lock range?

had this on ghost town and iron gator, both SF maps, in both cases the choppers where way out of drawdistance .

And 300m is the lock distance, the life span seems to be infinite

it is the shorter value of both listed that is important - missile wont hit [intentionaly] a target that got out from the lock range

no matter how hard you try, you cant hit a plane into a tail after he flown above you - he gets out of the lock range, missiles go passive/bonkers

missile range is not important, as it is the lock range that decides about theri lethality [TK not included :)] and lock range was drasticaly reduced - before the patch, on iron gator you could lock on the hind basicaly when he was still sitting on the helipad. no longer, and talking otherwise is a strong and smelly bull$hit

practice before you open your mouth, 700h of 1.12 game, does not mean anything when it comes to knowledge of 1.2 gameplay if you actualy did not try 1.2. and i think that many of posters dont know what they are talking about, because they state 1.12 facts, that are 1.2 lies

if they would increase the range on AA you would have choppers that can't even take off, since you would get a lock on when choppers jsut spawned... dude just b smart and stay away from the AA untill you sure you will get a kill. AA is a pilots primary target now.. trust me... oh and

Re: AA range to short now.

Story: I was flying the chopper over the arboretum part of Dalian plant yesterday (just east... of the PLA airfield) and I got taken down by two stray Essex missiles. Thats probably like 2,000m. But ya, 300m to get a lock.

You don't get it do you. Choppers cant just "sit there" and launch tvs atcha. We have planes and other AA sites to worry about. If it was dragon valley no wonder they were clearing the path before they entered that place is a damn AA fiesta.

Solution: Don't sit in AA and don't wait for AA to respawn (ie Don't be an AA whore). If you are in AA and you shoot at a Jet and then stay in that AA, you're dead on his next pass. If you are around the AA, my gunner is going to destroy you before you get a chance to fire. If the AA is manned, unmanned, it doesn't matter... We blow the sucker up. Why? Because people like you are either on it, or going to be on it. Its not like its THAT easy to sit out there at 400m launching TVs at itsy bitsy AA sites. We'd much rather be trying to advance the team, but in order to do that we first have to clear out the guys like you whose goal is to kill the big bad chopper whores.

Do you understand that TVs go 400m. If AA's got lock tone at 400m it just wouldn't be fair. Unless our TVs could lock onto you and hit you every time.

I love people like you that are always in the AA. garauntees my gunner a kill. Yesterday my gunner launched a tv at a AA site and killed 3 people. Seems they were fighting over who got the AA.

Re: AA range to short now.

I made a post similar to this a while back. I got the same response from the "pilot" crowd, then as well...

These "pilots" who continuously respond with their usual garbage, obviously either simply don't get it (probably because they haven't tried using the new AA), or they have an agenda - they believe that the people on the ground SHOULD stand no chance against the "almighty airpower".

Anyway, since someone needs to balance out all the crap that gets posted by them, here it is again.

The Simple Facts Regarding the Airpower vs Stationary AA(Mis-)Matchup:

The range of any of the jets' cannons (or the helos' tv guided missiles, for that matter) is GREATER than the lock range of the AA sites' missiles. This ensures that as long as a pilot has memorized the locations off the AA sites, he can ALWAYS destroy them from out of the AA site's range, BEFORE the poor schmuck on the ground can get a lock / do a GD thing.

Additionally, he doesn't have to do any fancy manuevers, or use any sort of "skill" that you guys so often boast about. He can quite simply fly straight at a site and just blaze away with his cannon, destroying the site (once again) BEFORE the guy on the ground can get a lock. There is NO debating this. It is fact. If you don't believe me, GO TRY IT YOURSELF.

Also, here's a little FYI for all you "geniuses" that continually reply by telling people to "Get some tactics, and don't sit in the site! Wait till they get close": So long as the pilot isn't a complete fool, he will destroy any aa site he knows he is going to pass by, from out of range, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT ANYONE IS CURRENTLY MANNING THAT SITE.

What don't you people understand about that? It doesn't matter if a person doesn't man an AA site, and doesn't make it show up on the pilot's radar. The stationary sites are just that - STATIONARY - and as soon as a pilot memorizes where they are, he doesn't need anyone to be in it so he can see it on his radar. If he knows he will pass by a particular site, he will destroy it, and there will be NOTHING the guy on the ground can do. And THAT, my friends, is what I, and others like myself, are complaining about - the fact that if a pilot isn't stupid, and makes sure he goes after the sites, there is NOTHING people on the ground can do to stop them. THAT is obviously not balanced.

imo, the aa lock range is fine, yet the aa is still messed up. the aa should be like 1.12 except the missiles should hit, instead of miss, and only go for its target, or flares. also, i think the tvgm shouldnt blow up when time runs out, it should just fly straight after time runs out. the attack heli should be brutal, thats why you need jets or smart aa to shoot them down.

for aa, its all in the tactics, get close to a ground aa, then wait for the enemy jet fly by, then get on and shoot it, run away, rinse and repeat. for the heli just fire after the flares are gone.

These people never stop whining, first the aa wasn't good enough. Now it's far overpowered and yet you still want easier kills ?

This is like asking for all primary weapons to have increased accuracy over a distance because snipers can take you out before you get in range to take them out. As it stands now it's still possible to lock onto choppers as they are taking them off, shooting them down before they even get to leave the helipad. Increase it anymore and you are going to have AA locking onto vehicles taking off on the carrier.

It's easy enough to score kills in the AA as it is now, increase the lock distance and you are giving everyone an instant kill device for air targets.

Yeah, now send this email out to everyone who plays BF2, because this is somehow a massive secret that 9/10 people don't know. I routinely see helis tearing up groups of people while jeeps, vodniks, and humvees sit collecting dust.

                                I see a heli, I jump in the nearest .50. It's like chopper-repellant!
