Ive owned three pair of dolby 5.1 headsets now (the others were those horrid zalman ones, and the Turtle beach X-51's) and these are by far the best Ive ever used. The bass response is phenomenal (this is normally a weakness of headsets) and they are very sturdy (unlike my x-51s which died in about seven pieces from a three foot fall off of my desk).

They were previously only available in the UK, but are now being imported and supplied with US power adapters.

    Hope that was helpful!
I agree with HullBreach Medusa 5.1 are amazing. If you already have a 5.1 speaker setup then its very easy to adapt. the amp box sits between your computer and speakers. So there is no emulation of sound and all cables are supplied.

So my setup is Soundblaster Platinum 5.1 <----> medusa amp <-----> Creative 5.1 speakers

Cable length is about 3m long so you can get up from your chair without getting floored

Creative EP-630 are also great, they fit further down the ear canal than standard and give great sound, only problem is large explosions (c4 and being near tanks) as I have jumped with fright. Also eating is a no no as the crunching sound of crisps and general food blocks the game sounds. For listening to music they are brilliant

Yep, I'm pretty happy with these ones. I like the separate amp, allows for easy control within hand reach.

EDIT: Probably out of your price range though.

Wow, thanks for all the replies! As for the soundcard I'm using the one built into my motherboard so its really a piece of junk. Never has really worked right so I was planning on going USB.

I'm hoping to keep the price range around $20-$30. I'm not real crazy about gaming in the perfect world I just go for functionality.

I don't think a separate just plain desktop mic will work because I tend to sit back when I play.

            What about something like this?

I would mainly like to get a good mic as I have crappy hotwheels speekers that I got for $0.50 at a garage sale. They were cheap but they work fine. So something that will have good sounds pickup is best.

What ever you do do not buy the Logitech Precision Stereo PC Gaming Headset. I love Logitech but these things are junk. My speaker were shot after a month and a fellow bf2 pal has recenlty gone thourgh 2 of them in about a 2 week period, becasue the mic went out in his. I usually pipe my sound through the speakers anyways but still I expected more From Logitech.

You can thank me later :-)

I'm seeing the same thing all over the place, complaints that they simply do not last more than like a month.

Guess I just gotta sit back and wait for mine to explode. Until then, they work very well, so hey. :P

Suuuure buy those if you dont mind looking like some sci-fi alien while playing BF2, but I suggest going to bestbuy and picking up a headset there with a replacment warenty that way any time it breaks or you just want a new one ( cord on threads or whatever) just go trade it in. This is the set I have. http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...ONTENTID=10013

They are 50 bucks but there really good and bestbuy sells em.
DEAR LORD, THIS HEADSET FREAKING MURDERS YOUR HEAD. Long periods of usage, and your ears hurt like someones been pinching them all day. At firts it feels all comfy, but for some reason...it hurts

LOL, thats funny because im on my 3rd headset of the same kind too. I love the DSP-500 but they have a problem of the mic stop working. I know what happens too. The wire splices from moving the mic up and down. Besides that, its the best headset by far. I just got the Sennheser PC150 for the mean time and definitly not as good as the Plantronics DSP-500's.

I own the Logitech® Premium USB Headset 350 I would not recomend getting it as some of the other posters have pointed out it hurts your ears something horrible after a couple of hours of playing. It's also not something your going to get used to I have had mine for over 2 months now and they still hurt my ears after extened use. Also a friend of mine has the same set (we got them at the same time for BF2) and it doses the same thing to him. Also the Logitech® USB Headset 250 are just as bad it's basicly the same set just not USB.

Unless you have to play with your headset all of the time I wouldn't get a USB one since you can't plug/unplug it up mid game like you can the normal ones.

I am going to try and set of Sennheiser PC 165 USB. Hopefully they are more comfortable for long periods of use.
