  • Anyway to stop BF2 forcing DirectX9?

I've noticed that bf2 forces to run in DX9 even if you don't have a DX9 card, I have a FX5950 Ultra and my mate has a FX5200, these are DX8 cards that would run so much better if they didn't have to handle DX9 shaders, is there anyway to stop BF2 forcing DX9?

You can use an app like PowerStrip to force lower version pixel shaders if you want to try that.

Using DX9, I believe, is necessary. If you don't have it installed, BF2 won't run.

Besides what others posted, a specific feature which BF2 requires is Pixel Shader v1.4 which is why it won't run at all on GF4 cards even if they would otherwise be faster than an FX card.

The FX series are "Consumer" level cards.
They aren't meant for gaming anyway.
