    What does the "X" mean?

When you're shooting what does the "X" mean when you're trying to get a bead on an enemy? Is it a headshot??

Any tips on aiming? I shoot a dozen shots and then the guy will just turn around and get me with what seems like one. Is it a better gun that you earn with experience or is it the aim??

    Thanks!

X means bullets hit, its an indicator.
head torso etc..hits will show as an X n the crosshairs.

your avatar shows spec ops, maybe cause your spec ops and have no body armor, or maybe more precise shots.
Everytime you fire a bullet that doesnt land on target is a wasted oppurtunity to win the 1 vs 1 battle.

Indeed. Even if you miss someone completley, they are still gonna hear the bullet whizzing sound effect. Anyone with a good set of headphones or surround sound speakers will know exactly where you are after the first missed shot. I find this to be a very annoying problem when I'm sniping and I miss the first shot. Also, the thing about you emptying a clip on someone and them killing you with one shot is common amongst most FPS shooters. The reason he killed you is because your aim was poor, while his reflexes and aim were better. If you wanna get better at your aiming and reflexes, i'd suggest playing alot of DM games like UT, quake and even CSM.

I do alright as I have played a lot of the games you mentioned. Proly it's more that spec ops don't have armor and so if I miss, the cat's out of the bag. I tend to be more successful with assualt, but don't like the kit as much. Plus, I think the assault weapon tends to be more powerful too.

How do you go about unlocking the weapons? Just more time on the game? Do those weapons give you better kill/shot ratio?

            Thanks!

If you've never noticed this, you are hands down the worst shot ever.

The X appears on your crosshairs when you hit someone with a bullet.

You get unlocks with each time you rank up. You can rank up by increasing your global points.

Those unlocks will NOT get you a better kill/shot ratio. They are not BETTER weapons like most suspect, but are simply alternatives.

LMAO!!! I must say, I just might be in contention for that distinction.

Seriously, I've killed people with pistols, rifles, etc, but I've never seen the X.

IMO Spec Ops is best played "from a distance" the sigle shot mode of there weapons is excellent for picking people off or dmging enough for assist.
Put spec Ops next to an enemy Assualt or support then its lights out for Spec Ops.

Also, at medium to long distances, try putting your gun on single shot or burst if the gun is capable. It gives you less recoil and a narrower bullet spread. Also since you are obviously new, I will tell you, you should always be in zoom when firing at anything further than 15/20ft. And if they are just standing there, closer than 20ft, might as well zoom and get a quick headshot. that will keep them from turning and shooting. Another tip, is when you are at medium to long range, and you miss your first couple shots, they will ofter turn around, but not see you. Dont keep firing and give away your posision. They will more than likely turn back around or run and you can get them then. Only use this tactic when in a good cover position. Always be in a good cover position.

Re: What does the "X" mean?

noone has mentioned this yet, and you may know it already, but it is important to note that guns behave 'somewhat' realistically in this game.

ie: recoil, deviation, etc all take effect. pretty much every gun in the game should be fired in 2-4 shot bursts. at long-mid range try to go prone if possible, line up your cursor and fire in small bursts. youll need to experiment with the weapon to decide how long the bursts should be, but never go full auto unless you are in CQB - even then its not recommended you just spray indiscriminately, just use longer bursts.

this isnt Rambo or the Terminator... more al pacino/robert deniro in 'Heat' :)

some weapons already have a burst mode, so it will make learning easier. the M16A2 is an excellent weapon.
i think the one big mistake new players make is they go full auto far too much - once you learn to control your fire youll start hitting more. most often it is much better to stop firing and let your deviation reset than to keep firing and pray for a fluke hit. also prone to fire and try to avoid firing when moving - unless its in CQB in which case do whatever works. im shocked at how many people immediately go prone in CQB, i usually just circlestrafe or run right over them and shoot down on their heads, its far more difficult to aim when prone and in CQB you actually present a larger target all splayed out on the floor.

Just one more question on this topic: In the spec ops weapon in zoom mode, you have the laser site. There's a bigger red dot and then a smaller one slightly below it. Which dot should I be using to line up a target?

Thanks for all the good info...
