    Rebirth of the Engineer?

1.2 has definitely given a bit of life to the Engineer class. Now they can actually use their mines! On maps like Daqing Oilfields and Zatar Wetlands, the Engineer can be quite potent. Armour beware. :)

Its true! I still say the engi needs more points for repairs.

the engineer should get 1 point for repairing 1/4th of a bvehicles armour. that way it would be worth wasting your time standing by a tank for an hour to repair ir.

        Re: Rebirth of the Engineer?

My rebirth lasted all of three rounds ... at which point the servers I frequent turned the FF back on because the claymores were being 'overused'. Thanks to all the whining from those who got upset when they triggered a claymore, it's impossible to play on my favourite servers without useless, PTK-happy teammates running over every single AT mine I put down (and, trust me, I am extremely particular / careful about where they're placed).

I swear, I could put an AT mine 2 miles deep into the red zone and a teammate will run over it half a second later and instantly punish. I wish there were separate server settings for FF on AT Mines and Claymores. Why the hell did the developers have to link the two of them together? The impact of the FF setting for each is radically different.

Most definately, its been so long since Ive mined (due to punishing idiot teamates)I forgot half of my dirty tricks, like being chased by another vehicle turning a corner and whip a mine out or just for defending chokepoints safely now....I m glad to see the engi back in action other than just being a grease monkey, should change up the action quite a bit once everyone adjusts.

Though I do miss the old No.4 rifle from 42 still

Thing is it really shouldn't be a server side decision. Someone at EA/DICE has to make the decision as to how mines and claymores should be used. If there are some servers using FF on for mines and others FF off, then the Engineers don't have a clue.

Personally, I haven't run into the claymore abuse problem yet, but I do like the FF off for AT mines.

Yeah so awesome that you cant blow the mines of cause of ignorant teammates placing them at all exits, making it uncapable to get out.

^True thats annoying, but I try place mines in places that the enemy will find it difficult. I remember this one clan about 4 or 5 of them, all engineer they kept spawning and throwing the mines all over the place in Karkand, and they racked up alot of tks.

I agree about more repair points for engineer. I also think that Spec. Ops. should get more too.

Yeah I miss the old #4 a LOT too!

I think some players can be a little smarter about mine placement.

                          Re: Rebirth of the Engineer?

I'm amazed the repair point rate wasn't dramatically increased. I would never use the 'vehicle in water' method to earn the badges but I can see why some people do because it just seems impossible to earn the Expert Engineer badge honestly. I repair everything I can and frequently play entire rounds as an engineer but I still haven't even earned the Veteran badge ...

Also, I agree that EA/Dice should just make an intelligent decision about the AT Mines. They have plenty of options but so far they've handled it in a way that seems completely bizarre. The server setting is an improvement but (as was said) it's not immediately obvious which setting a server has chosen. Some servers even alternate, leaving engineers to find out the hard way that they're still vulnerable to a teammate's stupidity / inexperience (something that should never have been allowable in the first place).

Part of the problem, I think, is that they made the Engineer class so frustrating to play that only a small percentage of players really stick with it, and everyone else gets wrapped up in the minor problems of their own favourite kits. Consequently, the problems associated with the Engineer class don't seem to be given priority treatment ... and so they remain, patch after patch.

Back to the old days of Medal of honor. when we got connected to a server then we first asked: FF on or off?

We engine better do the same from now on.

I believe EA is trying to make everybody happy. but as you know...
if you wanna score some kills, somebody must be fragged.
