RAM or Sound?

What would be a better investment. To get an extra gig of ram (i have 1 gig so far) or get a good sound card. Which of the two is more worth getting?

Sound card, it'll take some work load off your CPU.

I would've gone with the soundcard too, that is if you're getting the X-fi ones.

I done both well almost I got an extra 512mb Ram to take it to 1.5gb. and it improved load times and im usually the first in a map online even on 64 players maps.

However I also a few weeks later bought a sound- blaster X-fi card that this game was built for and I have to tell you apart from easing the cpu it was like a new game the sound was totally different – directional from the crappy onboard sound. I could pick out were shots were coming from and were the heli was coming from. Before I just had sound but after I bought the sound card I had an experience ( could not recommend enough) I will never skimp on sound again as my system is rather good but I never added the sound into the equation when I built it.

I feel sorry for those without such a card they really are missing out.

Going from 1gig - 2 gigs is the single, best improvment to gameplay. Reduces lag to almost none. Search the forums for all the theards about this :)

Total agree. I would get the extra ram if i were you . First thing i upgrated was my sound card to an X-fi extreme music . It did help abit but what really helped was when i whent from 1 to 2 gigs of ram . Mind you i did buy a AMD 64x2 3800 and a new mobo lol.

I guess it really depends on what level of settings you are looking for . If your looking to play at Med textures then get the Ram . If your playing at low textures get the soundcard .

Btw i dont care what anyone says the x-fi extreame music cant handle ultra high sound . Only time i had a decent frame rate at ultra high was on a 14 ping server . And even then i was getting 50fps or lower when im usually getiing 50-99 . The frame rate was playable but it shuttered like crazy .And i use PCi latency too and my video card and soundcard is at 64 .

Are you guys mad?? An extra gig of ram to go from 1 gig to 2 gig is such a better investment than a sound card. If you don't have decent headphones/speakers it isn't going to help anyway, and the extra cpu cycles free hardly help. Whereas the extra ram is just massively useful.

I would recommend more RAM too. What soundcard do you have now? Do you use 5.1 sounds or just stereo? What kind of speakers? I'm running BF2 fine with my mobos integrated "soundcard" with stereo speakers on Sonys amp and bf2 runs just fine with high quality sounds.

With more RAM you'll probably notice the difference in performance if you play with high detail textures.

In case you don't have any sound card at all, get the sound, but if you have at least something, even on board sound, I'd go for the ram.

If you're satisfied with how your game runs now, get X-Fi. It adds an entirely new dimension to your game, whereas extra gig of ram would just make it run a bit smoother (with some extra bling in graphics department).

If you're having issues with how the game runs for you, get the memory. If you don't have pair of good headphones, get the memory as well, unless you plan on getting them as well.

They're both valuable to BF2's performance and experience. As has been stated, quality sound in a game should not be overlooked because it adds another demention to the experience.

On the other hand, 2 gigs of RAM can help some, depending upon their chipset and motherboard. Not knowing what CPU and mobo you are using it is hard to make a recommendation.

Go with the sound. I just bought an XiFi myself this week and it is another dimension. Grab a 512 MB module extra if you want faster loading times, but give priority to the sound.
