Amazing how many ppl think latency is something to do with your line speed :/

Its more to do with line quality + isp network setup and peering.

and AFAIK NOTHING to do with connection speed in the slightest.

Tho, sometimes in planes I get jumpy FPS..say 40% of the times I fly.
Its not constant just after periods of flying.

Depends on whether or nto your isp uses Interleaving or Fastpath as well to reduce packet loss. Interleaving on anything other than very low can ruin your ping. Once your over 128 or so in linespeed your ping is fine its then down to other factors.

But for the sake of it here is my line speed:

2.56 Mbps down
320 kbps up

CPU = Opteron 170

My pings are about 10-20ms higher since the patch. But i disagree what your (maranello) saying about high ping not causing lag. When my ping doubles (I have a weird issue with my nic or something) I get awful lag. If I play on an american server I get awful jerky lag and if i fly a helicopter my gunner will get the lag as well, a friend told me about him getting it while i fly. Anyway the higher ping doesnt bother me too much but Id prefer it to be back to 20ms most of the time on british servers. It goes up to about 90 now on scandinavian servers which does bother me a lot.

I lag like mad. I run at low/medium and I get between 20 and 40fps. Before the patch I ran med or med/high and got 60-80fps. This patch tanked my FPS and my ability to play took a serious hit right along with it. :-/

Any link about changing the bf2.exe to anything other than bf2.exe should be deleted.


That little (useless btw) tidbit of information really screwed with a lot of people when they installed the new patch. Me included.


I'm a lot more careful about what "helpful" advice I get off the forums.


Another one is the www.drivercleaner.com link.

Its a great idea if you know what you are doing. If you don't you can really screw the pooch using that one too, because it works really well.

It will delete everything you tell it to whether you knew what you were doing or not.

If somebody is going to post this "helpful" advice they should take the time give people all the information they need. Not just enough to be dangerous.

I would venture a guess a lot of the problems people come to the forums to resolve are a result of "helpful" tweaks they tried out from the forums.

I have these Theres a problem with your connection for my hole BF2 experience. I have been on the phone countless hours with my isp. Tried tones of drivers, reformat and all. There server i play on i dont get any higher then 75 as my ping. It makes it immposiible to fly, and the laggyness happens and the worst times.
Only time i didnt have these problems was the patch before 1.12, during that time of the patch i was fine, but and patches before that or after i have had this problem.

I tried that line test link, but it will not complete, it says i caceled it and all i do is let it load and wait?

Probably not. If you read the thread, a bandwidth test doesn't help anything when troubleshooting pings.

You're the first person in this thread to realise that! Now just call your ISP, and ask them if that's their router. If it is, tell them you'd like to be routed out to avoid it.
