I don't see why people are so dead set against a futuristic game. You have all these set ideas about them and how something else is going to totally be better.

Have you considered that maybe they'll be able to come up with a game that is futuristic without being over the top? They'd be able to implement tactics and equipment suited for good gameplay rather than having to think about 'what it really does'. It would also end all the retarded arguments about how the so and so weapon should be much better than the AK etc.

I think a futuristic Battlefield game is a good idea, then at least they will be able to do a good blancing of wepons without people crying for realism(if they are acctualy plannig to balance wepons and vehicle right in the next game)

i would MUCH rather buy a bf2 version 2 or something that adds more gameplay modes, different engine, bla bla or w/e to the game rather than a this bf3

i really dont like the concept from what little we know, future games to be always seem too arcadey and not fun... if this is bf3, then this will be the end of the line for the bf series for me, shame cause I've loved them since the beginning

If you had stopped to read the comments, it might have dawned on you that quite a few people will not buy the next series as this one is still quite buggy (a year into its release, its no better than when it came out).

So what does that spell for the next release? Who knows? But looking at the current track record, doesn't spell anything good.

A futuristic theme is the only way to go with the franchise. You cant go back to world war 2 really, and at the same time you cant stick with the same modern era. You could but then it would just be a rehash of whats going on. I dont think Battlefield was ever meant to be a game that stood still in one place and Id like to see what DICE can do. Its pretty obvious that this new game will be on a modified version of the current engine. Which itself is a modification of a modified modified engine if that makes any sense. Supposedly its built from the ground up but in places its clear to see, it just wasnt. Anyway beside the point, I think 2142 will be a game that I will play for about 3 months/4 months and then play it ever other week or so, as I do with the current BF2. I would like to see how mechs work in the game, and how DICE works vehicles into this game. I think it will be exciting to see because unlike the other BF games, theres no definition to what they can do which will hopefully eliminate people disagreeing with wrong ammo being used in guns or incorrect placement of icons on textures or something sill. The sky is the limit for DICE now, and they have their imaginations to take them where they want.

I wont be surprised at all if DICE is already working on bf3. actually that is very expected. it will be too bad and lazy if they are not already doing that. If they want to release a new bf game every couple of years then that means there must be a time when they will work on both bf2 and bf3. those games take a very long time to develop.

I started playing bf2 and bf42 because they are very close to the reality... at least close enough for me.
I wont buy a bf2142 simply because that might be another Unreal Tournament... which is definitely not something I am interested in.
if they do make bf3 a very unrealistic game then I will definitely gonna convert to Call of Duty "3!?" or whatever that might be.
Most of bf2 players are DesertCombat loyalists. those are definitely not the type pf people who may enjoy playing star wars. At least I think!

I hope they are talking about a bf3:2142 for consoles and I hope they will just try to expand bf2 and make it more enjoyable and realistic at the same time with new graphics engine and somehow much better maps and gameplay.

aslong as it's the same type of game as BF2, i don't like games like CS
i prefer to be able to hop in and out of vehicles, planes, jets, etc. much more fun

not like SF, but like... more explosive >
you'd have to restrict kits, and the ammount of times you can use such things
but being able to set bombs on the infrustructer of the carrier, and blow the entire thing up!

or, as commander, instead of artilary, you can call in massive air strikes, or bombs that will clearly wipe out an entire section of the map

because in all honesty, Artilary is crap.

I'll buy it, and prob the next one and the next one too.

The way I see it is if a $50 game gives me one day of entertainment then it paid for itself, because one night at the bar is like 10x that price and then the next day I don't even remember the fun I had +P

Thats how I justify buying games +P

Yeah... I'd be interested.
I hope to not see it for a couple years, tho.

The design would have to be very well done and be a believable sci-fi (as opposed to sci-fantisy that dominates the genre) to really spark me off though.

Dice has already taken all the bf names up to 7 just in case, so someone cant go buy the domain and make dice pay alot more cash for it. So just because they have a domain name of battlefield 3 doesnt mean that they are planning on making it right now or at all.
