Sorry bud but i've been building & optimizing gaming rigs for 6 years, i do it to earn money & pay my mortgage, if i was wrong i'd be homeless pretty fast.

Whilst you are correct on defragging, reinstalling DirectX is impossible as it is an integral part of your operating system & cannot be uninstalled (not strictly true), therefore making it impossoble to reinstall unless updating to a newer version.

We are getting closer to agreement. :) I too am an IT/Hardware business owner of many years. Perhaps I should have been more specific about what I meant.

DirectX can't be uninstalled, true. But one can reinstall over DirectX. Why would anyone want to do this? Because occasionally, uninstalling Video Drivers will remove a dll or a component of DirectPlay. In these situations, reinstalling DX is the only way to regain the missing DirectPlay drivers.

More about DirectPlay (a core component of DX):
DirectPlay lets computers within a Windows Me or Windows XP environment connect with each other, as well as with players elsewhere on the Internet. Because DirectPlay will open and close the multiplayer gaming ports as needed, A user with a corrupt version of DirectX may have trouble joining or hosting games, or may see a significant performance reduction when playing with other users who have a clean version of DX 9.0 installed.

Get another 1 gig ram. I've got an x1800xt & 2 gig & am nearly allways the first one on.
