SlOw LoAdInG w/ X1800XT

2 days ago I was running P4 3.4 GHz, 1 GB Ram, and ATI X300 128 MB...
The game ran on low but very very smoothly and fast loading times (<2mins average)

Yesterday I upgraded to X1800XT 512 MB.

I uninstalled BF2 after setting up CATALYST, because it was giving me an error.

I re installed BF2 with the new patch,

Put everything on high, and now the loading time (including verifying client data) is 5-10 Mins every time!!! wtf??????

The game coughs alot in the early stages for the first 5 mins of gameplay but then runs beautifly afterwards.

All other games run perfectly ( call of duty 2 )

Is it my video card or is it something else.... Im also seeing very high pings at times.

you need 2gb of ram to run everything on high.

BF2 uses about 1.7gig of ram with everysetting on high.

1,3gig... and it wont decrease loading times...i'm almost first in the game, or one of the first with 1 gig of ram... and i've played on systems with 2 gigs... dont see the difference... so it's not a lack of ram...

Yes it will decrease loading times :) I would suggest upgrading to 2x1gb if you have the money.

yes, BF2 is more RAM dependant than video card, which is switched, most games are video card, and less ram. to run at high you are going to need 1.5 or more (I HIGHLY suggest 2GB) to run it smoothly and get better loading times. but it will help greatly. try to buy the same ram as you already have because it should go dual channel, and you wont decrease performance in any way.

its more ram dependent because it uses such big maps but it also takes a good video card

So right now I have 2x 512
Im thinking about getting 2x1GB and selling my 2x512 so i can keep DDR2

You are so right, BF2 NEEDS 2gb of ram to run well at high settings & load times are DRAMATICALY decreased with 2gb, i h8 these fkn nooblets who know sweet fa as stated before you Sacky.

To address your question without suggesting you immediately spend more money - I recommend you Defragment your HDD and ensure your motherboard chipset drivers are updated. It often helps to reinstal DirectX after replacing a video card as well.

There's the answer RAM plain & simple, the game coughs during the 1st 5 minutes while your system optimizes & loads everything into pagefile because you don't have enough ram, more memory means it will not need to do this.

As for reinstalling Direct X, where'd you get that idea, the back of a cornflake packet??

I've never heard so much rubbish in my entire life.

Perhaps you should do some research on the matter then you wouldn't be so suprised. If you wish to call it rubbish it is OK by me but I don't want you misleading other people.

"Add more RAM!" is not the answer to all performance questions... Now that would be rubbish.
