    Shooting while jumping...

It made for some great "Rambo" moments.

I remember being burrowed in a ditch on Gulf, laying down some covering fire for a beach base. Next thing I know, some guy jumps over me and drops an M203 in the ditch with me. It was one of the coolest deaths I ever had.

The most memorable part about it was how awesome it looked... the sun silouetting this guy as he leapt above me, then watching in horror as that nade left his gun.

Oh well, overall the patch does some nice things, but I agree with a few of the complaints. I really wish DICE were more professional with their legacy support, ie. patches. This game really lacks a sense of pride from the developers, at least from my perspective.

Too many bugs were introduced this patch, and they've removed some aspects from the game that make it enjoyable. Again, it's like they went in performed open heart surgery when just a few stitches were needed.

I like the increased accuracy of some of the weapons, and changing the d-diving mechanics is ok ( although I didn't mind it before ). Really, if everyone has access to the same manuevers and weaponry, how can you justify complaining about what someone does ( outside of exploits ).

I much prefered the suiciding M203ers to the grenade spam that occurs now. The focus should be on removing weapon spam. Now it's claymore spam, nade spam, and mine spam. None of that is actually skill based either. So, someone tell me how all this spam is better that someone jumping around shooting people?

In order to take away jumping and shooting, the developers had to change so many other areas of the game. There's no more jump/toss for kits or grenades. Fine, you automatically throw them that far now, but where's the skill it takes to make a well placed medic or ammo toss?

They've really dumbed down many parts of this game now. A few more patches and we'll be left with a really pretty Castle Wolfenstein...

I liked trying to hide from BHs. I liked sidestepping a bunnyhopper and pumping him full of lead. I lilked being able to peek over a wall and hide again (prone/stand/prone); now I have to wait to go prone again while I'm exposed.

They stripped away the finesse that you used to be able to achieve on the battlefield. How is this better? Where'd that steep, rewarding learning curve go?

Like everyone else here, I really want this game to be great, because it's got a solid engine. But the developers need to get in touch with the aspects of the game that make it fun.

IMO, they should have made jumping take more stamina, and made it so you can't jump without a minimum amount of stamina. Instead, they change the mechanics such that there are pauses inbetween certain movements which affect many other circumstances, and remove the ability to jump and fire? Just have the accuracy drop real low.

I get the feeling that the decisions they made were in large part motivated by how easy it is to change in the code.

Sorry for the long post, just a little jaded about a game (series) I've supported for so long and the apparent lack of pride/ethics from the developers.

    also,

What year are they gonna patch in widescreen support? I used to code graphics applications (albiet openGL), and I swear it's ONE line of code change. From my experience with DX, it's just as simple...

Awesome post h-bar. It was a well thought out explanation. Maybe if more people posted this way someone might actually listen.
As far as the changes go, it does not seem to fall into a middle ground with the devs. The changes are either drastic or non existant. This is unfortunate because I agree with you, most of the aspects of the game that could be considered essential to survive are gone. The learning curve as you put it has been flattened out pretty well.
The one thing that upset me the most is that everyone would complain about the dd and bh, if everyone has access to the same weapons and tactics, why not adapt to it and move on. I've seen countless threads from post patch supporters claiming that the people that are now upset should "adapt", I ask the same question of them. Why could you not adapt before, you had to have the game made so that it requires such a low level of skill that anyone can become a 1st Sgt within 2 months of playing?
If you are new starting out this game you will not be as good as some of the people that have been playing since the game came out. However, now you can be because the game has been severely limited.
The only change I would have wanted to see is that the AA disappear entirely and have it replaced by shoulder mounted stingers. The AT kit should have had these available or something.
      Such a shame.

Yep, shooting while jumping was zero problem.

Shooting while presenting yourself as low a profile as possible i.e. being prone in midair was a problem....for some...not me.

Bunnyhopping was annoying but was never a problem to kill them, just a challenge, the noobs couldn't do it so now going from prone to standing is hard and shooting in midair has been removed.

Noobs + whines = dumbed down game...

Shooting while jumping WAS a problem.

I can't tell you how many times I would come around a corner and have an assault guy jump OVER my head and shoot a GL down on me. . . killing me and not them. Where is the skill in that?

If you could track that then you are a super human.

It wasn't so much that they would go prone in air it was that you got PRONE accuracy while doing this that sucked.

The game hasn't been dumbed down. Seriously. . .where is the skill in hoping around? Now the game is more like it should be with people running around, using crouch more rather than the uber fast prone, no more people hopping around the battlefield or dolphin diving across the map.

BF2 is not that type of game. That is for HL2/Quake.

Umm hello, he couldn't jump over you unless you were prone....and besides, it took super fast reflexes to be a point blank range, jump over you, turn around in midair and shoot at the very edge of YOUR body (the side he came from originally) to kill you and not him....so please don't talk about skill.

Anyways like I said, prone accuracy in midair still didn't matter, if you had skill it was only a bit harder, all you have to do is move the mouse and the guy still dies....

But I don't mind them removing the bunnyhopping dolphin diving.

You should be able to shoot in midair ESPECIALLY now that the GL can't be used at point blank range.

There should also be ZERO delay between when you press Z to lay down and press Z again to stand up. There should be a delay between doing that and THEN jumping.

Didn't do it, don't miss it and don't really care one way of the other but it makes the game look at little more "realistic" to the casual observer...

I just wish they could have made you rocket jump when the anti tank kit is fired at your feet! J/K..... I was never one to complain about bunny hoppers or dolphin divers.....I just like playin the game and I still do. What I don't get is no matter what the Devs do or don't do it will never be good enough for some people. We will always have whiners and complainers. As far as this patch ruining the game for people??? Come on! I dont think so! Just play the game. If you are really unhappy with it then the simple solution is dont play it. You can always sell your copy on ebay. Lets face it, not everyone is going tobe happy with every aspect of the game...heck there are parts of the game I wish they would get rid of. However, I still have fun playing and as long as that doesn't change I will continue to play.

                  look
Look sure, but how natural is it to press the trigger in real life and have the gun not do anything and its not jammed and its loaded and cocked?

well you see, that was the only problem with jumping and shooting was people doing that. If they had been using the rifle or a gun...chance are they would have missed horribly. What they needed to do was 1) reduce accuracy while jumping, not take it away and 2) make minimum distance for GL, not minimum arming time.

If they would have done those two, it would have been fine. People could still shoot things while jumping, essential if you are an offensive engineer to throw your mines, more challenging for throwing grenades, and more practical for med kits and ammo bags. The no jumping and shooting really is the only thing I do not like about the patch, because it did have a lot more uses than faults. It was the guys that just jump and tube that ruined this....and as I said, if their was a minimum distance, say as small as 10 feet...they wouldnt be able to just shoot the ground and kill you, because it would just not blow up.

They should have just disabled GL jumping. I've played tons of games where you can't jump with a certain weapon so it's not that hard to add in. The prone spam fix could have been handled a lot better.

God now that they took out jumping and shooting I nearly always die.

Not because I'm a bunny hopper, but because I'm constantly moving and jumping over sandbags that slow the gun from recovering.

                          Re: Shooting while jumping...

It is a game, so there are rules and abstractions to try and reproduce real world situations...

Here they are trying to make movement on the map look more realistic... Having people bouncing up and down and instantly laying down and standing up does not look right. Especially when the animations can't keep up with the players movement...

I do agree with you that maybe they have overdone it a little and going prone and getting up should not take quite so long, but it should not be instant in my opinion...

As for not being able to fire you weapon while jumping or during the transition to and from prone, well we accept the abstraction that you can't fire while sprinting already so how are the other restrictions any different?

The one thing I like about the change is that it has inhibited the superman aspects of the game. It is harder now to be the best guy on the map and personally I like that...

You guys should learn to adjust to games. I dont care it they make the PKM a one shot kill and be able to hit stuff 500m away. I couldnt care less I just love playing the game if you really hate it so much go get a job take a shower and come back when another patch is out.

I do feel for the ppl complaining about new bugs like the rockets going through tanks and sound bugs. O well gonna have to deal with it for awhile.
