I've got the Saitek x52. The thing works great. I spent more money on a joystick because I also play a lot of flight sims and cheap joysticks just don't cut it. If you can get a good deal, go with the x52.

Or maybe you were going for a Shakesperian tone: "I have hadeth 2 cheapish joysticks, and thy wast crappeth becausith problematic calibration. Howeverith the Logitech Extreme 3d is grand, and full of possibilities, calibration of course is of an essentail nature.

Logitech Attack 3, cheap (16 $ AU), easy to use, more than fine for BF2.

On a sidenote, if you see a future of you flying a jet and making some complex maneuvers and switches, then know that this joystick lacks at least 1 key on the top.

The bad sides of this joystick are
-Calibration loss (Serious bitch, but can be overcome if you tweak the software. In fact, youre forced to tweak it and youll be better for it)
-Could use at least 1 extra key up there somewhere
-VERY center-balanced it takes extra effort to move the stick off the central. Nothing major, but te movement from central isnt as smooth so you can sometimes not perform accurate machine gunning.
-Lacks 3rd axis. Can be a pro though. Less moving, more living.

Why it rocks.
+Oh boy damnit how much abuse this baby has gone through. Literally. This little baby is so damn strong. Absolutely no isses whatsoever after being hardcore abused since June. Perfect if you plan on using yours excessively.
+Suitable for both left and right handers
+Logitech has good software you can use to keep it working as you want it to.
+Center-balanced also means somewhat easier use.
+Hands wont get tired. You rest your hand on that stick
+Its damn cheap

So basically in BF2
- Jets, if you can live with using keyboard and Joystick, its great.
- Choppers, great, no further comments.


As an international forum and a game played internationally, I suggest all grammar nannies to go screw themselves.

about @$25 at walmart
son uses it
avg about 30-50 kill and 10 d per game
even got better since 1.2
(ie more air-to-air kills)
other clan guys have x52
but that is about $120
I use 10 yr old microsfot sidewiner
little too loose (easy to over control)
will get one with stiffer controls
rudder as stick twist is essential
and of course some form of throttle

I'd recommend against Logitech devices.

I love their keyboards and mice, but their joysticks completely suck.

I've had 3 of the Extreme 3d (with twist handle) and all of them have lost calibration within 6 months of purchase.

I opened a ticket with Logitech and gotten very poor support from Sameer and Rakhavta. After several updates I was told to RMA the stick. I bought a Saitek Cyborg Evo instead.

The problem with Logitech sticks is that the potentiometers will loose center. So the joystick looses calibration. The Logitech fix is to unplug the USB cable and plug it back in. It's "supposed" to recalibrate the stick. It doesn't work. So they have a utility to clear the calibration data. Of course this doesn't work either. So I was stuck with a joystick that had the twist handle one tick to the right.

They wouldn't provide me the registry information so I could clear the calibration myself, or give me any advice other then to unplug and run their clear calibration program. I got this advice 4 times and told them each time that it didn't work before they recommended RMA action.

If Logitech would have simply included a calibration utility that could be run it would solve all these problems. If your are considering a Logitech Extreme 3d Joystick I'd strongly recommend doing a google search for

"Logitech Extreme 3d Joystick" loses calibration CLICK TO GOOGLE

And see just how many people have had this problem.

DXTweak2 and it has saved my nerves from flying in a jet which performs a full roll to right with 10 seconds and the same to left with 3 seconds. That was "awesome". NOW, with the program, its paradise.

I used the exact same program! I only wish it had a SAVE feature. Then I would have stuck with the Logitech J-Stick.

But having to load DXTweak2 and adjust the joystick every time I rebooted got to be a pain. I was just completely fed up with the attitude Logitech took. It would be a simple matter for a company like that to write in a save feature to DXTweak2 or write their own calibration utility and include it with the "wingman" software. But since they didn't, I choose not to support them by not purchasing another joystick from them. And I'm encouraging others to either buy from another company or if they have Logitech joysticks, to email Logitech support and ask for a calibration tool.

I just literally went to Argos and got the Logitech Attack 3 Joystick, it is cheap only £19.99, yet quality as Sphoxx said and it feels smooth etc :)

I might go out and buy this right now....

I did buy a, well, ****ty joystick from PC-WORLD... Its a "PC-LINE Tournament Pro", 4 buttons and a terrible throttle thats hard to reach... £15!!

ROFL- DosX. It HAS a save function. You have to click "save" every time you calibrate. You also have to create a profile first bu simply tiping in the profile bar.

No Shat! I thought WinXP couldn't save the modified data....

Note: Under Windows® 2000/XP, the deadzone setting cannot be saved.

I'm probably just confused about what "deadzone" is.

Click the link. It shows a screen cap of what my DXT seems like. You CAN save the calibrations but you CANT save the deadzone I guess. But if youre using Logitech Gaming Software or whatever its called, you can adjust the deadzone and sensitivity from there.

Deadzone- the area in which the movement of the joystick will show no effect.

Basically, what I did when I loaded up BF2.

Open Logitech Gaming Software
Open DXT
Check if calibration is set, in DXT program.
If yes. Close DXT, open BF2.
If not, unplug, replug until calibration is set. Close DXT, close Logitech Gaming Software, start over.

Took 1 minute maximum.

Perfect size, button placement and resistance. It's incredibly comfortable and accurate.
I thought it should have cost more then it did when I bought one for $70, now they sell them for $45!!!
