Lovin 1.2! Yeah, I said it. So there.

    Oh go... another patch thread.
    :p

Wow. After reading all the moaning and groaning going on here I thought I was in for some rough times when I fired up BF2 tonight.
I'm quite happy to say, I rather dissagree with the dessenting opinions.

I love the feel of the new mechanics for groundpounding. Standoffs occur a lot more. Taking people out at range is a reality now. The threat of snipers has been increased, but tho I went down to more than a couple of 'em, I didn't feel they were overpowered.

The P90 is perty cool. Not quite up to it's real world model, but I bagged a guy with my first burst. That made me happy.

Then there's the aircraft. Hehe, I wasn't suprised to see one sitting on the runway, abandoned and dejected. So I figured I'd hope in and see what the fuss was about. Wow. First time I've ever had FUN in a fighter! I ran a CAP (combat air patrol) and put down a bunch of air targets. Got into a perty good turn and burn dog fight. It actually felt like a modern "knife fight" rather and something for a George Lucas film. Finally did get shot down by ground fire, but I didn't feel robbed or cheated. I deserved it. I was flying over enemy CPs that I knew damned well had emplacements.

Later I was able to fly a an attack chopper and did alright with that too. Transports worked fine too.I was able to get people where they needed to go. Apparently all the practice I've been doing flying low has paid off.

PKM is finally the beast it deserves to be.

There's more I could spout off about, but generally I can just say "This is a damned fine piece of work".

Not thrilled with the GL bounce. It needs to bounce more. Feels like throwing a sock at a wall. I suspect that if you where to fire a real grenade launcher directly into the ground, it would bounce higher than a couple inches. Ah, not that that you'd want to do that.

That's a niggle tho. I'd be happy ta see it tweaked in the next patch, but I got lots of cool ta play with till then.

Oh, Colin, saw ya in there.

Ooh.. i'd like a slideshow of that in my family album.. sweeet. :)

I haven't tried the G3 yet, tried the PKM just a little and liked it and i don't have any experience of the adjusted GL's but i think it's all good.

The same happened to me too Wargimp... i really enjoy flying jets now even though i'm not a great bomber i can rack up kills dogfighting and i love it. You shoot down the enemy jet and then perhaps you have time for a bombing run or two..

Ppl say the new AA is overpowered bcos they are used to think of jets as a vehicle that's supposed to guarantee you at least a 10:1 K/ D . I think you can easily get to 1:4 or so which is ok for any vehicle in the game.

        I agree.

Other than an apparent increase in the AT missile bug, all other part of this patch are really good.

I only played for a short while last night (It was Valentines Day..)

I do not fly (I tend to kill myself more than others)...so I did my regular squad based ground pounding last night for a coupe of maps. The ground fighting is way more intense...and a ton more realistic. It just "felt" better. Helicopters were effective but I did see them actually die a few times by AA which was a first. PKM wasnt as crazy powerful as people were saying. The G3 can actually hit people that aren't close enough to breath on you but not overly accurate. I am not sure if it was just me but the G36E seemed to have less damage but was more accurate and remains my favorite inf weapon. It was also very strange not getting killed by GL most of the time...hmmm :) Anyway, as everyone can now tell the whining has begun but that will settle down a lot over the next few weeks as people get used to the new flow of play. Thats my .02.

The patch is great. Last night I probably had the most fun since BF2 first came out. Played on karkand: no GLs, no C4 craziness, just nice firefights (noticed a lot more teamwork), didn't see too many snipers, PKM, G3, L85, and the L96 are the new weapons of choice for me, sad for the engineers, the P90 is so, so. Anyone notice you can rack up points now pretty easily. Overall the patch is an awesome addition to make a great game even better.

There were some excellent fire-fights on some maps, the kind that lasts minutes on one block. The PKM has definetely made a difference in cover fire, pinning down people and allowing a flank from another squad. It was almost like the first week the demo came out. Just alot of fun. I play mostly infantry and the slow move from cover spot to cover spot is what the game should be. It was pretty funny to see some people run down the street, like Rambo, trying to avoid fire by jumping, and then getting dropped within seconds!

Re: Lovin 1.2! Yeah, I said it. So there.

I was in the same boat. I installed the patch before going to work, but didn't get to play until I got home. In the meantime, I was reading the nine thousand 1.2 threads and I was starting to wonder if this patch was going to screw things up. I mean, people were certainly crying like it was.

Boy was I surprised to get home and find out that most people here are a bunch of pansy whiners.

I played for two hours on many maps, and after the first twenty minutes of playing, I hadn't noticed any thing major. That's not to say that I wasn't aware of the changes, but nothing was hindering my game play.

The process of going prone and getting back up (which had be described as "5 seconds") takes only just slightly longer than before, and is hardly noticeable.

I wasn't able to throw grenades super human distances.

The opposing team was not composed solely of magic-ninja snipers.

I didn't find myself walking around catching my breath wishing I hadn't jumped back there.

AA does not fly off on cyborg terminator-style search and destroy missions. (At work, I was laughing at people who were complaining that AA no longer "takes skill." Since when does pointing at something until it "locks on" and clicking a mouse constitute "skill?")

I only have one negative observation, and that deals with AA. I was thrilled to be able to actually take down jets. I was less thrilled to find out that on two occasions in the same round that the AA locked onto a friendly jet and blew him out of the sky.

Oh well, blowing up friendlies is part of war anyways.

Yep, I think this patch as done a number on the game.... but for the good.

I only had one instance of a bunnyhopper, and when he paused to shoot, he died - yay! So a spot of tea-bagging was in order for him

G3 was very good imo, gonna enjoy breaking that one out a bit more.

Spent my two unlocks, ummm.... sort of wisely - got the sniper but not the P90*. Opted for the first engineer unlock, and didn't regret that.

Game seemed to run much better imo too.

                      Scort.

                      * Read some early posts, people said it was pooh, doh!

The game is soooo much better. 2 tiny complaints. 1st of all thanks to all the dolphins and bunnies out there who made DICE change the way you stand up after being prone. Instead of jumping up off the deck (ala seat, feet, face Parris Island 1990) you stand up like some creaky old man. I understand why, but it sure removed some of the fluidity from the game.
Also, the noob toobing is not fixed at all. There were still chocolate miners all over the place last nite toobing away. The minimum arming distance thing: false.
In praise, I love the MP7 or as I like to call it the "bullet hose", it is my new fav weapon (ok next to the M24). I wish that DICE lowered the promotion points for Non-Comms instead of just officers. Sux, I unlocked the Jackhammer and MG36 last week, I should have left it alone. Love the little Predators flying around, question? Where did the MEC get Predators from? Shouldn't they have a French or Soviet version? Love shooting down UAV with my pistol.
All in all a FANTASTIC patch, keep up the good work DICE!

everything seems fine for me. other than a few server browser glitches once i was in the gameplay was real nice.

I had a blast on Karkand last night. I was actually "sniping" people with the SCAR-L when they would pop their heads up over their barricade's. I'm not sure they actually changed the SCAR-L one bit, but it "feels" more accurate.

My only complaint was that my average ping seemed about 50ms higher than normal, and would spike upwards of 200ms higher than normal. No, I admit, this may have been my connection, but the servers I was playing on, I normally have ~25-50ms ping. Not really sure if it's the patch, or not. I will find out tonight.
