Hmmm this one isnt going away... 1.2 demo files definitely dont play

I have found that Public and Singleplayer demo files DO NOT WORK (crash to desktop after 20-30seconds) but LAN games work fine and can be watched whole way through.... REALLY FRUSTRATING forpeople like me trying to get a community/clan video made! Let alone not being able to review clan games/scrims

I'm also getting a crash after a set amount of time, using either the in-game method of playback or using Battlelauncher. Any ideas why this would be happening?

From my experience, as soon as your commander launches a UAV the battlerecorded crashes.

Last night I managed to record 4 minutes without any problem. As soon as I managed to get the commander slot, I waited until a fixed moment in the game and launched the UAV and as soon as I did the BR stopped recording !

Maybe it was just chance but it does seem a little strange. The 30 seconds that people are reporting could be linked to the time it takes to be accepted as commander and the few seconds it takes to charge up the UAV.

that freakin sucks, I had two really good project reality mod demos before but now I guess they won't work. Hey Capt.HKS once yall get BR working on your server can you make a little announcement thread about it?

Oi, it's being worked on still. BR is functional and the .demo files are being sent to the FTP site properly. The only remaining issue it to get the bookmarks in the community tab to work.

BTW, yes, BR files taken in 1.2 will play back under 1.2. No version is compatable with any other version and never will be. Even the hotfix (1.21) will make all previous .demo files incompatable. Sucks, but it's an artifact of the system.

Demos/recordings do not work in 1.2...may be the UAV but I have had 3 replays crash in 3 seconds...pretty fast UAV

nice one DICE yet another bug in 1.2......proves they dont test the patch as any bug testing session server should have BF recorder enabled so that they can watch the game back again if they see any bugs or strange things in games.

They prolly wont even fix it in 1.21...idiots.

I emailed one of the DICE developers - it would appear they weren't aware of this demo crash-to-desktop issue (spose it hasnt really hit the radar on forums as much as other 1.2 issues) - so after a few emails back and forth giving them more info I got this reply tonight from DICE:

Thank you very much for the detailed information. I've forwarded it to the patch-team, and they say they're now on it.

Strange thing is it seems to work with the unranked server files. However none of us went commander and launched a UAV, I will try that and confirm whether that is the cause.

Whilst testing it using the unranked 1.2 server we had myself and the Mrs in for about 30 minutes and it played back the whole demo no probs at all.

We still haven't got it going again on our ranked server, I think its still a lazy host issue and he hasn't uploaded my configured rotate_demo.cfg When he does and we get it going again I'll report back whether its the same issue. I did try and view a BR demo from Internode and same deal it crashed after 30secs.

Yes, that must have been the cause, as my unranked-recorded demos from our last clanwar crash after a few seconds. My bet is that it's the UAV being visible now.
