    My 2 cents(nades = spam, ff on claymores/mines)

This is not intended to flame/diss, merely speakin my mind to hear what others think :) :

Overall, I can feel the patch has made bf2 better, however things were changed that did not need fixing:

    1. Grenades can be thrown much further now(bad thing), I have seen Nade Spam fests on every map(one support class can rearm himself with unlimited nades). Grenades don't need to be thrown that far, they were Extremely effective before. Now their 'too' effective.

    2. Claymores/Mines should have FF on always! Though I think it is nice to have the option to turn it on/off(server side), this causes ridiculous situations where one team can completely baracade the roads with mines and have their team still pass through. Too much of an advantage for maps with defending teams. I'm sorry, but advanced players shouldn't suffer because some new players don't know what their doing.)

    3. What is with the completely random Meter reading that is found on every map! Its exactly what you would see underneath a flag on your 3d map(the distance in meters to that flag). For example: [415m]
Its like a flag has been placed way underneath the map. Either this is one bluntly missed bug, or it has been placed there for a reason(I do not have time to search and scour for the answer to this). If anyone knows why this is like this, please inform me. I don't want this to occur on my PoE 2 maps

    4. I have heard that the blue/red name tag bug has not been fixed completely.

    5. What happend to taking screenshots! Print Screen no longer works for me, and this was a valuable bug finding tool for maps... I can get the job done with other programs, but the system was fine for me before! Though I saw no point in bf2 generating both a png and jpg for each screenshot(caused a longer pause when taking a screenie)

I havn't had much time to play but those are my main concerns at first glance From what I hear, jets have a much harder time, so I thank Dice for that! I was gettin bored with 60+ kills an 1-2 deaths(if any), its not fun unless its a challenge!

from what I have gathered, the wierd meter reading appearing on every map has something to do with the UAV, can anyone confirm this?

I'll answer by # of which your paragraph follow:

paragraph 1. This should slowly stop, reason being this is the first day, so naturally everyone is going to want to test out the new features. a lot.

paragraph 2. I totally agree with you.

paragraph 3. From what I've heard, it has something to do with the UAV?

            paragraph 4. It's true.

paragraph 5. Use fraps. Not sure what happened, but I know that fraps still works, or is it the other way around...

Lol I guess we heard about the UAV from the same place.

yea, hopefully the nades will calm down, but c4 Tossing wasn't a major problem until later on(took some time after release for people to take advantage of it).

I got fraps so thats my solution to the print screen deal, but its still a bit annoying(got too used to it).

Nades are ridiculous, we were on a server earlier and I could throw nades from the karkand Hotel spawn close to the hole in the fence right into the USMC spawn at the top of the hill!

They had to do something with the mines, as it was where ever you put them you would get a tk within five minutes. Quite how they coded this Moth to flame behaviour into the game is an often overlooked masterpiece of programming as the players still believed they were in control of vehicles once a friendly mine was laid.
I would have rather mines became visible on the mini map or the mine warnings became visible at a longer range or a players screen flash a full screen red warning with an in depth article on why driving over the clearly marked mines is a bad idea- including bullet points on where you might expect to find mines in future. I have seen that pretty poor placement of mines but I do understand that in an ‘engineer vs tank at close range situation’ that mines may end up in the wrong place, but since I’m still able to spawn at such a flag I should be thankful.
It will be nice to see more mines around the place I think. Just as pilots have to adjust to being shot at drivers will have to learn to read the road. Hopefully this will also improve the relationship between armour and ‘foot’ Engineer’s as we will be a lot more valuable to a team- just they should’ve swapped the knife for a red flag.
I think the issue of blocking a map with mines is plausible and I admit I will be making use of this new feature (although I’m going to wait for someone else to see if its enabled or not).
The mine is in game to make a route impassable by vehicles, we haven’t seen this tactic used effectively before due to the Moth effect, commanders will now be able to finally order a mine field laid without the Engineer laughing and saying “No sir!”, its an entire new aspect to the maps that was meant to be there from the start and has always been half the function of the Engineer class. Commanders now have a tool to stop armour advancing that doesn’t require deferring friendly armour from flag capping. Engineers now have a kit that can earn points, not tk’s.

Claymores make more sense as an ff off mine. I appreciate they can now be placed anywhere which may make things a little more explosive for us ground ponders but it does mean a Sniper on a roof can get back to the roof after he has been out sniped without having to commit suicide. It is an interesting weapon that isn’t seen much in game, I don’t think it will have as much effect on game play as people might think, sniper only has 2 of these to place after all and a Sniper has to be brave to get up close and personal so I don’t think well be finding a Claymore at every spawn.

Overall I think that the mines can now be included as a defensive weapon will hopefully make the game require a little more thought and co-operation from a team as well as improving the mixture of kits used. As it was I can’t say defending a flag was viable on foot- other than spec ops- or that a single armoured vehicle could hold off more than one attacking vehicle making it a fools mission and waste of resources to attempt. Commanders will also now be able to deploy a wider range of tactics which is a good thing.

Grenades are a little over the top, the distance you can throw them seems unnecessary and over the top- literally with most buildings.

I assume the extra flag under the map is where the UAV spawns, as vehicles in the game can’t vanish totally they must be stored somewhere when not in use. I imagine they couldn’t use the vehicles spawn timer as it is unknown when the vehicle may next be used. It would have been silly to store the UAV in a visible place as it would have to vanish when deployed. Well, that’s my theory.

Yes, but what it does is make every claymore placement a gauranteed kill as long as you stay alive long enough for an enemy to run by... You could put two claymores in the middle of the mess of friendlies on Karkand and leave, come back with 4 kills because some enemies ran through minutes later. Everything in BF2 except flying is now n00b friendly.

Yeah. Slowdown the grenade-rearming for the support unit himself. Otherwise, I don't think that grenades are "too" effective now. Maybe that's because I use them so much myself :)

                        2. Claymores/Mines should have FF on always!
No! Own teammates WILL ram into friendly mines and the engineer will ALWAYS be punished for that. Now the game is more "friendlier" to engineers if the mine ff is off and maybe some people (me included) will now actually play as an engineer now.

                        4. I have heard that the blue/red name tag bug has not been fixed completely.
I haven't had a blue/red name tag problem after the first patch and even before that it was very rare.

great 5 points....and how DICE has really messed up BF2.

Who's stupid idea at DICE was it to make it so claymores are not possible to get past for the enemy and dont blow up if a team mate walks past them?

Now what is going to happen is say on karkand i will put claymores all around the hotel so that its impossible for the US to get to the flag. I can put 5 down at once thanks to the many overpowered PKM support guys throwing ammo packs around. Then i just sit back and snipe with my new more accurate sniper rifle while i rack up the kills from my claymores.

If DICE had any sense and actually play tested thier patches they would make made it so the claymores blow up if a friendly walks over them but not kill them. The same way FF off is for mines and traps on BFV.

                          *sigh*

Never noticed this! ...which is strange, because my MOS for my unit is Sniper.

...maybe it's because I don't use claymores often?! Also, it's the near future, maybe the claymores have a "Friendly" detector in them? All super-future-technology'ish like?

The claymore fix is lame. I could understand not blowing up an AT mine, since it basically meant tanks would just see them, shoot them, then continue rolling. But no blowing up claymores? Come on, the things are so small it's surprising you can't just put a bullet in them to ruin 'em.

I know I'll be encouraging FF to remain ON for mines on the servers I go to.
