guess what, if you run into a proned machine gunner's line of fire, you deserved to get owned.

support = the king of medium range now. but assualt still dominates the short range combat.

Okay then, I will just keep owning everyone with the PKM then. I just hope no one thinks I'm hacking with unlimited grenades and 100rds of ammo. Support, I mean assault..... I mean..... ahh whatever Support owns, assault is dead. Don't get kicked off the server like the guy last night for swearing after I kill you 5 times in a row.

How does assault dominate the short range? Don't tell me because you can shoot standing up.... It doesn't take that long to go prone, plus it throws people off at close range.

no offense, but I can probably easily counter your support ownage. weapons such as assualt rifles still kill faster (gasp!) damage-wise and sniper rifle can easily own you. I got a 17-1 with PKM because I wouldn't let anyone get near me and I get up and run as soon as I see snipers.

Well in real life a support gun like the M249 SAW is not meant to be the ultimate infantry-killer, a support gun is generally an automatic weapon that is designed to manage the recoil of the weapon and deliver accurate fire even on fully automatic. The basic use of the weapon is to force enemy troops to take cover and reduce the effectiveness of their return fire while friendly troops attack. This increases the likelihood of a successful attack against an enemy position. The ones who are supposed to kill the infantry are the riflemen packin the assault rifles such as the M16A4. Support guns are generally classified as light, medium, heavy, or general purpose machine guns. The HK MG36, RPK, and SAW are classified as light machine guns even though in the game they are powerful, the PKM is classified as a general purpose machine gun.

What they need to do is make the machine guns (supports) super loud, and
when the rounds hit walls make loud ass sounds, that would get them to
                  duck and cover.

Okay, even if you beat me in that situation... which I highly doubt you would. If I avoided getting in close quarters combat on a map like Karkand, that would solve my problem. As support you can now sit on the hill at USMC spawn and slaughter people running around at the hotel.

Think about it for a minute, 2 people of equal skill level spot each other at short range at the same time. One goes prone then shoots with the PKM, the other stands and fires with an assault rifle. Even if the prone delay is pretty short, the prone guy should still lose that encounter more often than not.

Mind you I'm not saying the PKM isn't overpowered... but personally I think it's too early to tell. I sure hope it's not because I hate it when 1 gun/kit is way out of balance and I would rather have it underpowered than overpowered.

You still have to hit me. Odds are, you're going to dive prone, I'm going run.

I do it to so many MG gunners and it's just classic. You know what they do? They chase me. Yep, that's right, they chase me. You know what happens when they chase me? I shoot them.

Yep. G3a3 three times in the chest within' a matter of a second; or head if they make it to prone. So no, Assault hasn't lost anything. It's pretty much on equal terms with Support.

If you chose not to go the route of G3a3 there is always the M203 to fall back on. Which works wonders at range against anything. Short of a tank of course.

...but yeah. Outright fighting a MG is kinda' stupid. It's not somthing you want to charge, or allow to get going. Also, the resupply is questionable. Although you have it, you're unarmed for those couple of seconds you're tossing a pack on the ground. That's all the time I need to drop to one knee and nail you twice, or three times.

Support should be able to lay down deadly fire. It should cause concern for an enemy when they are faced with a machine gun nest... What the opponent needs to do it use teamwork to eliminate the gunner...

What i see now is not an over powered LMG, but a bunch of players that are running around in the open amongst accurate weapons. We finally have weapons with acceptable accuracy so now some of these run and gunners will have to learn about 'Cover' and teamwork. Not bunching up into groups and standing in the middle of an open area...

Not even slightly true. In a standard Army or Marine Corp. fireteam, or any fireteam for that matter, the Support Gunner is the "Heavy Kill" weapon. Especially light MG's.

An M249 does have the abbility to keep someones head down, and that's one of it's functions, but seeing as the accuracy is on par with the M16a4 at ranges of 400m, it does the job of the M16a4 much better than the long rifle ever could.

This is also why the "Gunner" is the lead man on breach applications, and also why he's generally the "Finish" in 4-F tactics.

there is a problem with going prone at close range-if the oponent isn't a noob u r DEAD, if the oppent doesn't stand there and shoot like a dummy, instead he strafe left and right or even circle around u, it's likely that u will miss more than he does and therefore he can kill you before u can put him down. Any experienced FPS player wouldn't stay still in close combat to make himself an easy target.

Don't underestimate the SVD. Even before sniper rifles got souped (apparently, haven't noticed much difference). My favourite thing to shoot is USMC trying to take/mow down people in the Hotel spawn.

I suppose the sniper rifle balances it out, in some strange way.
