what do you mean it will run but not as it should? As a software developer, i am aware that anything that it claims to support means that it should function correctly, because if it doesnt then its not supporting it.

I have a radeon 9200 too. It wasn't a supported card bij EA, but it did work fine. So if it worked fine before, why can't it work fine now? I maybe have an older videocard then you guys, but I still payed the same price for the game we all did. It would be nice if I could play it.

Re: Anyone else having problems with radeon 9200 agp 256 mb?

Well EA will finally get us 9200 series folks to finally update our cards (mine is a 9250).

It looks like the problem is consistent for all of us (extreme lag and static mesh probs). I'll wait a bit to see if another user can figure out a workaround but I'm guessing I will be purchasing a new card today.

Since EA did not choose to support this card on BF2 I knew this could happen so I don't expect we'll get much of a response from them on it. Honestly, why would they waste the time/money on a card they don't support? It's hard enough getting a useful response from them on a card they DO support! But it doesn't change the fact that it does suck.

I looked at the links Mr. Numbnuts (aka Kewl) provided, but since ATI is so buggy I won't risk changing brands. My other computer has a 9600XT installed and is running BF2 + 1.12 patch with no problems so I will be upgrading to that.

I found the Sapphire Radeon 9600XT card for a smidge under $ 100.00 (total price) w/ free 2-day shipping at: https://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produ...uctCode=320756

If you can't buy online you can go with Numbnuts choice but be aware that the $ 80 bucks he mentions is AFTER a mail in rebate. The real cost up front will be about $ 130.

Oh well at least I know I'm not jonzing alone. Good luck fellow sufferers!

                Angel

P.S.-/ Here you go Numbnuts: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823178105 <---that my friend is a link to a new keyboard which you so desperately need. I went ahead and found you an illuminated one so that you will be able to locate that caps lock button even in the dark. If you use it sparingly (as intended) it won't stick. :p

Yeah i have the 256mb 9200 i have smae problem i have sent ea a support request they have not considered ATI users only nvidia. We need to know the specific thing that makes it go wrong then maybe we could change it or adapt the game

Tried the latest Omega ATI drivers 6.1 It seems a little better but still no buildings, rocks, etc. Loaded the patch on my laptop which used to run BF2 but have the same problem so it isn't just the ATI 9200 cards it is all ATI cards that they say aren't "supported". Obviously the adjustment they made to gain better rendering performance has screwed us, now we get no renders at all.

Supported List Battlefield 2 only supports the following video cards: (minimum 128MB) Radeon X700 (PCIe) Radeon X600 (PCIe) GeForce 6600 (PCIe)...

Here is a list of supported cards:

                      Radeon X700 (PCIe)
                      Radeon X600 (PCIe)
                      GeForce 6600 (PCIe)

                      ATI Radeon 9500 / 9700 Series
                      ATI Radeon 8500 Series
                      ATI Radeon X300 Series
                      NVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra
                      NVidia GeForce 6800 GT
                      NVidia GeForce 6800
                      NVidia GeForce FX 5950 Series
                      NVidia GeForce FX 5900 Series
                      NVidia GeForce FX 5700 Series

Just because it ran on your 9200 before the patch does not mean it was meant to run on your card at all. They prolly changed a line of code that obviated your card completely. I am amazed you had it running on a 9200 to begin with.

Wow! Thanks J-Train! you're so uber helpful [/sarcasm]

Look, there is no need to get all uptight, we are all well aware that the game does not support our card. Its just a little annoying that we've been able to run the game so far and now with no major differnce to the game engine, the game has been taken away from us. You didn't really need to have a brain hemorrhage about it.

Also, not everyone is able to afford a new graphics card within 24hrs of a patch being released. If you're so sure we have to do it, then let me PM you my address, and you can mail me a new card.

Anyway, back on topic: lets hope someone comes up with a patch/driver to get us round this! :)

It is not gonna happen. These companies make money off you when you buy new cards, not when they make your old card last forever. Just accept it, the 9200 is a dinosaur, and from the outset the 9200 was never meant as a serious gaming card. I still have never understood why people buy these cards that are absolete before you get them home. Spend the extra $$, look at this:
Here is the top of the line (if there is such a thing in the 9200 class) 9200 Series card: http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec....iteria=3473789
Now here is a 8-Pixel pipeline 6600 (non-GT) still a whole lot fater than the 9200:

But look again, for $25 more you get a 6600GT DDR3

Saving the equivilant of a dinner for 2 at Applebee's does not seem worth the performance issues you will suffer, as well as crying like a baby when a game, that never supported your card in the 1st place, stops working with your doorstop, I mean video card. That is like moving into an apartment that have free cable for some reason, and then one day it stops working, and you complain about it. YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO HAVE IT IN THE 1st PLACE! So all you 9200 users, quit whining, go out, bite the bullet and get a new video card. This is one of the prices that PC gamers pay over console gamers. Of course our games are better, have more depth, more replayability and better control, but Console gamers never have to worry about "will my game work with my Xbox?" If you played golf, would you not buy new clubs when you needed them? If you ran track and field, would you not buy new shoes when you needed them? PC Gamers are quickly evolving into "cyber athletes" don't let antiquated equipment hold you back from playing your best.
                            Look, I don't make a ton of $$, but I do alright.
In September of 2004 I built my 1st AMD 64 PC, I scraped the barrel to do it, and I chose some budget parts, Asus K8N-E 754 with 3000+ 512mb DDR400 CL3, 40GB SATA, FSP 380W PSU and an ATI 9600 Pro
I started playing BF2 with this rig and suffered. The 1st thing I did was go out and buy a Radeon X700Pro, and my game improved. I said screw it, and bought a new mobo (PCI-E and AGP compatible ASROCK) and slapped my X700, and RAM on it, bought a new 3200+ 939 and guess what my game improved, so then I went out and bought 2GB of HYPERx CL2 DDR400 and BAM! What a difference. Then I started reading about SLi, and said, wow, more performance. So again I splurged, new Mobo, new Processor, 2 new video cards and HOLY SH!T!, this is what gaming is all about, NEVER HAVING TO RUN YOU SETTINGS ON LOW AGAIN. Skimping on hardware makes you miss the parts of the games that developers spend a lot of time on. Water effects, clouds, explosion effect, facial features, shawdows, lense flares, everything that makes the game seem more real. Skimping on hardware is only cheating you out of the full game experience. This is my 2 cents, take it or leave it.

i have to agree with j-train on this you can't blame EA/dice if your hardware does not meet the requirements for the game, you have the choice to purchase the game or not. Game companys are not gonna be making games that are gonna support older hardware forever. I mean look at BF2 2GB of ram to run textures on high, who would have thought of that last year? Not me to play the best you need to get the best.
BF2 is a taste of what will come within the next few years. My 6600GT can run any current game quite well but this time next year i am very doubtfull. Stay active on all tech sites and keep up to date on the latest hardware and games.
