Compaq's are bigger peices of crap than dells are.

Dell probably makes the best proprietary PC there is. But nothing touches white box/building your own.

DELL is for computer noobs who don't know crap about hardware, and just want to get complete system without hassle. Intel is definitely lost race to AMD in terms of performance.

The only people that buy dell are people who know nothing about computers, but then learn from their mistakes and don't buy dell again.
the only people who buy Dells are those that are not too expirienced with computers, walk into their local gadget store and purchase as 2000 $ Dell and have problems with it.

Well, I am not a "noob", I know a reasonable amount about hardware, I'm now onto my second Dell, I've had no problems in the 6 years I've owned a Dell. Oh, and when I accidently damaged my first Dell, they sent me a new one. So why don't you all stop and listen to yourselves, yes, in an ideal world we would all want to build our own PCs, but some people can't be arsed for various reasons. Have any of you ever owned one??

I've worked on enough deadbeat PCs (read proprietary) to know that I will never own another one as long as i live, unless its a laptop (until the industry standard parts become widely available for those, too).

Dell, Compaq, HP, Gateway, PB, E-machines, etc etc.....all have problems, all have gremlins.

None of them will ever be reliable as a properly built and maintained standard ATX machine.

Dell is the most successfull computer retailer for a reason. Do you really think they got where they are by sucking?

I owned a Dell once, it got me through college and I loved playing the original Counterstrike on it. It was 450MHz and I had no complaints, actually, I am still using the monitor from that system. I have since owned an Alienware and built 2 of my own.

Interesting article by the way. Another reason Dell won't carry AMD is because Intel doesn't want them to. Intel provides an unheard of incentive for carring Intel only by having their own advertising campagne. "Intel Inside" was an amazingly successfull advertising campagne in that it actually got buyers to show up at the computer vendor wanting a specific kind of part in their computer.

Intel will catch back up to AMD very soon I believe.

Andy Grove said it best when he commented "[AMD's] last original idea was to copy Intel".

Dell are crudd....Compaq are cruddier...but most of all Hewlett Packard can take there comps to 10000 feet and throw them out of an air craft with no shoot...they are by far the crappest comps ive ever experienced...couldnt aven run 1942 on super low graphics...with a 64mb (INTERGRATED XTREME GRAPH CARD LMAO!!!) what is so xtreme about that lol. anyways thats my 2 cents worth.

My friends computer needed windows re-installing(its a dell) he phoned them up and asked how much it would cost for them to do it. £120 and that doesn't include the postage. Sure to say I did it for him.

                    .

                    Yes.

They void your warranty for really any reason, so they dont pay out much in warranty claims.

Their PC's are peices of crap, and parts are junk.

Their helpdesk is now in India which means its pure crap.

Dell is a business, they are out to make money, NOT to give you a good running PC.

Maybe you should reread the article, even if AMD opened a new plant right now, you are talking about 6-12 months of rampup time for production levels to reach optimal #'s, this is not an RTS, the new plant won't just appear and suddenly have chips flting out the door. It is not logistically feasible for AMD to compete with Intel's sheer ability to outproduce AMD 10-1 right now.

This is not the "Inquirer" Tabloid, this is a well established and repected UK site with no affiliation to the tabloid. It is also simply a link to a news story about the AMD chip issue.
