Ok, when you say PCI slots I assume you mean the old kind that has been around for years and not the new PCI-E specification.

The first thing I recommend is that you visit your motherboards website and download and install the latest Chipset Drivers for your system.

Download DriverCleaner (it's on the web, just search).

After rebooting from the chipset updates, use Add/Remove to uninstall the video card drivers. Reboot into windows.

Reboot again but this time boot into Safe Mode by holding down F8.

Now run DriverCleaner to remove all traces of all video drivers from your system.

Restart the system in normal Windows and tell Windows not to automagically locate and install your hardware drivers.

Since you are using a PCI card, I would go ahead and use the CD to install the drivers instead of the newest ones from the ATI website. The choice is yours and there is no wrong decision. However, if the system still fails to play the game beyond the startup screen, you will use Add/Remove to uninstall the CD provided drivers and then install the newer ones from ATI.

You need DX 9 to play many of today's popular titles and Windows Vista, comming soon, will require DX 9 to operate.

Vista won't require DX9 compatibility. To use all the eye-candy you will need a DX10 compatible card, but it is not a requirement.

now i get a VPU thing that pops up and says the graphics accellerator has been shut down and reset???

Intel chipset suggested says not to install with 3rd party video card....

Don't you need at least a 256mb video card with dx9, 1gb and at least a 2ghz cpu to have vista at it's full eye candy? that's what i have heard.

9200 shouldn't work...thats why I had to upgrade my comp...i had a 9200 AGP...

i have a 9250 128mb agp it works well on bf2

a friend of mine has geforce 5500 pci 256mb it works with same performance

so i assume your card should also be able to run

however recommand an upgrade there are plenty of discounted videocards out there that has the same price as 9200 but actually x500 or higher

i bought the card off ebay and cant return it...i want to play the game but i dont want or need to be spending another $300 for a different card...besides the motherboard i have only has PCI slots no AGP...sucks I know..but when i bought the computer i didnt know any better...i just want to play this game so whatever you can tell me to get it running will help....thx

wait so u spent $300 for that card? lol! that card costs $60!!! go on Ebay and sell it again and get your money back or jsut tell the seller that the video card does not work and get your money back.

DX10 card for all the eye candy. You will still be able to run a GUI that looks similar to WinXP with less than DX9.

ISTR reading that the PCI versions of Radeon 9200/9250 didn't work at all with BF2 even though the AGP did (slowly). You can get a PCI GeForce 5500 256MB (128-bit memory interface) for about $80 at Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16814143032). I don't think there are any PCI video cards that cost much over $100 any more. What are the rest of your system specs (esp. CPU)? If you only have PCI slots your system might be too old to play BF2 at reasonable speed even with a working video card.

I'm assuming you paid $40 and not $300. I don't know of anyone that got a 9200/9250 PCI to work with BF2, only AGP; lots of people went through that pain when the game first came out.

Bf2 will lock up if your using a shareware program refresh rate locker tool. Its used to increase the refresh rate of your monitor..for more fluid video performance The ...1 i used to use was "reforce".
if you dont have any of these things then its something else!

Dear Lord! You all are going to make this guy insane.

The 9200 series was NEVER supported by EA games. They support the 8500 series but not the 9200. Since they posted this information on their website and not the box all of us who bought the game thinking I have higher than the 8500 series got immediately sheisted.

I'm using the 9250 AGP version and I can't even envision BF2 working on the PCI version. Although I've heard some people say that using a PCI Xpress Card worked for them I can't verify this or what type they used. And lord knows which ones still work with the new 1.2 patch out.


For AGP users the jist of our workaround fix was:

1. Download 9600 drivers and install
2. Lower settings to either 4x or 2x
3. Turn all settings to low or off (in game)
4. Lower settings (in game) to 800x600 w/ a 60 refresh rate
5. Pray to EA gods

As of 2/15/06 8500 and 9200 ATI series users are unable play BF2 with the new 1.2 patch. So unless ATI/EA/or another users comes up with a workaround 9200 series users may need to upgrade their video cards. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

hey read the hardware requirements again. It lists all the GPU's but then it also says somewhere under the gfx section "an AGP or pciExpress card". I saw this on the SF box requirements, Im sure its on the vanilla too. That means, if its PCI it probably wont work. gg.
