How do you know what kind of RAM your computer takes, like the pins and stuff?

depends on your motherboard. what kind of mobo you have? or waht type of processer and how old is the computer?

Or there will be a model number sticker actually on the ram, search for that model number and look at the specs.

Well, there wasnt much for a label but just numbers so ill just post them and see if they mean anything to anybody.No brand or anything so im guessing there cheap. Oh and sackynut my computer is brand new. I have a P4 3.0 w/HT.Heres the numbers that where on the RAM.

A4D54902

HY564T32000HU-3.7-A

If I get all new RAM and dont use any of the previous sticks does it matter what kind i get as long as there all the same?

who makes the computer? what company. and asnwer both these: how many sticks you currently have? and how much memory is it all together?

I have a Dell Dimension E510 P4 3.0 HT, 1GB (4x256) RAM. But if i get all new ram does it matter what kind i get as long as there the same?

well first off, you will have to take some out, because there is only 4 slots on that computer. so lets say you take out a 256 and put in a 512, you will probbably lose performance going out of dual channel. but yes, just make sure it is 184pin PC4200.

So say I take all 4 sticks out and decide to buy 4 new sticks and not touch the old ones. Does it have to be 184pin PC4200 sticks? I really appreciate the help.

select "Scan my computer"

Will tell you what you have and what they have that is compatable... however you can use their recomendations to look for similar from other sources.

they really really SHOULD be. dont try to sway, stick with what you know. yes, I would get all PC4200, because you know that performs well in your computer.

One more question, can it be PC2 4200 instead of PC 4200?EDIT: OH nevermind they dont make it in 184 pin.

I hope you didn't buy anything yet. Your computer doesn't use 184-pin RAM, it uses DDR2 which is 240-pin. The two and not interchangable.

I hope for your sake you didn't follow Sackynut's advice. If you did you have just wasted your money.
